Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - live at Rock the Garden 2022

- “It’s been a couple years,” Nathaniel Rateliff observed from the stage, gazing out at the fan-filled hillside at Rock the Garden. “We’ve missed you all. We love you guys. It’s so good to be back.”
Rateliff hadn’t been in Minnesota since March 2020, when he was touring in support of his solo album from that year, And It’s Still Alright. Now back onstage with his full band The Night Sweats, Rateliff and company rolled out a passionate set of songs from all three of their albums, including their latest release, The Future. In the lead-in to “A Little Honey,” Rateliff was proud to remind the audience that that song’s video was filmed on location at the Turf Club in St. Paul.
In a notable change from earlier performances, Rateliff appeared hatless - a symbol, intended or not, of opening up his whole self to the audience, and they responded in kind. The evening proved a catharsis as the band and audience engaged in a dialogue they hadn’t enjoyed in more than two years: the band giving their all - including keyboardist and bandleader Mark Shusterman appearing to direct both band and audience - as the audience bobbed their heads, danced, clapped and thrust their hands in the air in a glorious reunion that included several instances of call and response. Later on, Rateliff repeated his earlier sentiment, telling the crowd between songs, “We thank you for all your years of support. We love you guys so much.”
Perhaps in one of the set’s most poignant moments, Rateliff held a microphone in his hands, standing at the lip of the stage, ostensibly singing to each and every person in the audience: “Just remember, I’m on your side.”
And there was no doubt the feeling was mutual.

I had never of Nathaniel before. I saw a segment about him on the morning news. I am a 75 year old lady that is a dedicated fan now. His songs are brilliantly written. He has written so many songs. I love his music as well as performance on stage. I ordered 2 CD and will get more. Great musician and band.
Here are some great live vidios, dearest Judy:

I've only just found out about him too & I'm old chook aged 70 and love the Band and can see a strong influence here. Nathaniel and his band have a new fan in me now too
right there with you my friend... This is incredible
Heck yeah Judy Im the ripe age of 41 and LOVE his music rock on lady!!
Me too. Just discovered tonight .. wow . 🎧🤗🎧
The most underrated artist of the 21st century
So true. Deserves so much more recognition for his talents.
He get tons of press here in Colorado so we got to see his rise a bit before the rest of America. Definitely deserves more coverage.
Not by anyone who s heard him. Had to keys to see him before the big lie cancelled everything.
@@stewartbalmer1515 the big lie , thats funny .
Have you heard of The White Buffalo or The Steel Woods? are two other examples of underrated artists
I’m 64 and love this man and his talent.
I'm 76 years old. My wife is 75. It is my true desire to attend a Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats concert. With earplugs, of course.
Where you from?
Gotta laugh, cause yeah!
... At Red Rocks... : )
🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧. 😎😎😎😎😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ha Me Too, 70yo! Love him
One thing I can say for sure is that I'll never give any business to the ads that interrupted this masterpiece of a performance.
Well fkn said!!!
Right on!
😂
Found this band on CZcams and cannot get enough of it. At work, at home and in the car. Listening from little old New Zealand and getting loads of people down under hooked on to it as well.
Nate and his entire band are phenomenal. This is what the modern music world sorely needs: pure, original and genuine genius.
With passion! Yes! Teskey Brothers are another great one.
Nathaniel Rateliff writes the songs Van Morrison would love to write again. Great band! Tedeschi Trucks Band and N.R. are the best thing coming out of torn America right now.
A genius no doubt.
Agree 100
any rock or alternative rock?
Would have been great to see them sing together.
He's great, but he ain't van fucking Morrison guy
True talent across the board! Song writing, Vocals, Instrument playing and stage presents! In an age of mass produced talentless drible the media feeds us it's good to see that true talent is still out there in bands like this!
Couldn't agree more.
I am absolutely obsessed!!! God DAMN he is so talented. EVERY single song he sings is just so raw and gritty and real and powerful. He just sucks you right in and takes you with him. Every song. I'd give anything to meet him in person just to tell him that his music takes my breath away. He is THE most talented musician in America today and thank GOD, because they are so rare. He is so, so rare.
Good to know other feel the same way. I never thought to go to the comments to see others thoughts :)
Agreed!
I’ve listened to this band for years. What masterpieces. This music is timeless.
Going to see Nathaniel & the Night Sweats in OCT in STL!!! Can't wait to GO!!!
Saw this crew at Redrocks in July -- mind-blowing! And as Ian Kennedy said here, life changing -- BRAVO!
Saw them at the Metro in Sydney Australia in 2016, after discovering the SOB clip on You Tube. Great soul blues rock folk and country fusions & an absolutely brilliant band live. The last album channels Sam Cooke, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan influences. They're a breath of fresh air for the older music lover and for the younger ones who are discerning and with mature tastes and sick of being fed the generic hip hop and rap imposed upon them.
Wife and I finally got to see him this year. He brought that same energy and of course the amazing song catalogue. Such a great live show
Saw them for the first time in my hometown on 9/20/22 and was blown away. He kept apologizing for being low energy and his voice not being strong. I thought they sounded great. Unfortunately they postponed a bunch of shows the following day bc it turned out he has covid. If he was that amazing sick, I can't wait to see him again when he is healthy.
I was there too…I don’t remember apologizing at all but holy shit it was a great show
I was blessed to see them at Red Rocks and again in Boston. They are my favorite live band. Catch them whenever you can!
Their concert was top one of the best I've ever been to. Recordings don't do live justice
Just here to say I'm fully in love with every single member of this band.
I stumbled across this band about two months ago. How is it I never heard of them before? They are freakin amazing. I listen to them every day now. It’s one great song after another to discover. Shame on the music industry for hiding this great talent. Thank you CZcams for popping it on my feed that day !
dudette they were the hottest thing in north america about 7 ,8 years ago ,then lites out for covid . . .
@@peterbetts858 guess we are behind here on the east coast or at least where I live. Or maybe it’s just me asleep at the wheel. Either way I found them now and that’s the important thing😊
Best regards❤
@@jennifercole6045 enjoy , r u in Canada or US , they played Harvest Jazz fest in N.B. 2 OR 3 years ago . if u havent heard the quit drinkin song called SOB , DIAL it up ,u will make up for lost time .
Dude I am just hearing of him right now because I heard a song of his at the end of a show my wife was watching. I listened to the lyrics and tried to figure out the name of the song. It ended up being "And It's Still Alright" I found the song on CZcams and it literally brought me to tears. The dude is Amazing. I am so happy I finally know about this guy. I have only now heard a couple of his songs and like someone else wrote he has got to be one of the most underrated music artists today. How is it I have heard of Cardie B but not this guy. My guess is he is not a sell out and a true Man of Music.
They performed on late night numerous times.
I saw Nathaniel&the night sweats for the first time at Bluesfest in Australia recently, Wow factor plus, talk about working the audience and him and his bands stage presence is awesome let alone song after song of raw and real talent, incredible really ❤
15/10 recommend seeing this band live. Their Harrisburg, PA show slapped
We are heading up to my baby's alma mater to see them in Michigan in August. We see them last year in Tampa at the Innings Festival. They blew the headliner away! Heartfelt, unique artistry. One of a kind!
I saw them yesterday at Meadowbrook amphitheatre in Rochester, MI. It was amazing! Left us wanting more and here we are looking for previous live shows. In my top 5 of concerts
I heard about this artist and his band just few months ago from my husband, they are just great, top.....I'm from Croatia .....great songs, lyrics...everything :))) love it
Real music. Glad I got to see them live in Norway
Right on.....Now somebody give me a goddam drink!!!😂

Refreshing to hear new good music.
I remember seeing them live at The Masonic in San Francisco and they had that whole building rocking like the San Andreas Fault was giving way. Thanks for posting this so I could sorta relive it!
Nathaniel, you remind me so much like my brother in law. Wow was blown away with your appearance at the #AvenirCenter , #Moncton #NewBrunswick. #NathanielRateliff. Please come to the North shore. You stole the show and my heart. Loved it, it was a night to remember to say they were going for #Cityincolor, and they mentioned your name, I said I am following. Wow you guys are a great band. Continued success to you and the band members.
I mean I don't need to say anything about the Band. If you're here you already know...
That said. Props to the audio mixing team. Very clear live show.
Going to see them tonight! Looking forward to opener Hiss Golden Messenger as well. Two great bands!
The show in Michigan was amazing. The entire audience stood for the entire show. Cant wait to see this superstar and his band of badasses again,
What phenomenal talent! Real music in your face. I love Nathaniel and this band. The other great thing is that the audience is having a blast! Very few phones in the air. I sure hope I can see them live one of these days.
Saw them for the first time this past Saturday at Outlaw festival. Absolutely life changing.
Dude no way I was there too. Him and Billy Strings played their hearts out
@@calebv6914 Both were genuinely channeling divine energy, I swear. Billy was a fucking angel and Nathaniel doesn't write songs, he writes hymns. I wish there was a way to capture the hair-raising, soul-shaking power in his voice on a recording.
I was in the back of the pavilion and I still felt the force of his voice. Those two are definitely a must-see again for me. That concert connected to me to something deeper within myself
@@calebv6914 Word. Same, my dude. I immediately bought a ticket to NR & NS in Atlanta on the 29th. If I had the time and money I'd block off the next two months and go on tour.
I was there too! Hell of a time.
Beautiful ❤ touching the soul, this is what music is about ❤
I love this band... Nathaniel Tops this ... Now Thats Americana !
OH yes finally a proper captation of their new tour ! I was so bummed when they canceled their only performance in France earlier this year !
