You're hating on backlight but you're not actually looking at backlight images. Someone in the shade with light behind them isn't a back lit photo. It's very easy to get nice looking images and quality exposure without blowing out the background in any modern camera. That doesn't mean you can expect 2 drastic exposures to line up as one like the image with the bride in front of the lake. 2 completely different exposures is the biggest problem with that photo.
