I think we can all agree that Sharapova would have had at least 10 more titles had it not been for Serena. But I think also Serena would have lost championships to other opponents Maria defeated.
My first time watching this match and i was surprised about the nice embrace after the match because Caroline spoke out against maria after the drug suspension and when they played each other at the us open after her 18months ban(maria)..and Carolina lost to her boy words were exchanged..one thing i never like maria but i love her fight and her never quit so. And other players did the same she was not the most likeable person and she said that many times..but the other players did respect her..but when the drug thing happened that killed her respective among most..personally i never believed she took drugs..again not or ever will i be a maria fan..just my opinion..to see them so sweet to each other couple of years before the scandal.

You know its a different Maria when she is playing against any players and different Maria when she is against Serena. When Maria plays other players, she moved better, footwork is right and move around with better flexibility, she can pretty much hit winners from any position, hit the balls deep angles. But when Maria is playing Serena, her footwork looks stiff, doesn't target the ball with angles, she just tried hit the ball as hard and as flat as possible, and Serena happened to have better defense and athleticism than Maria.
But that was what was so fun about their matches! Seeing Serena scramble after every would-be winner and returning it with interest every single time was incredible to watch...Serena's brutal athletism and sheer force of will vs. Sharapova's hard, relentless playing style was a visually good combination.

I don’t really follow tennis anymore after this generation. Even when I watch the highlight, I fast forward, really boring at times. And players these days, are so inconsistent. Anyone can win a grand slam now. Might be a good thing though.
