Is this video exploitative?
The premise of this video rests on the fact that Istvan is extremely underprivileged. In general I am not a wealthy man, but compared to Istvan I live like a king. I have a warm bed at night, I never go hungry and I don’t have to rely on charity from anyone. I don’t know how to build a fire, because I have never the cold has never forced me to learn. Therefore I have a responsibility to justify my actions as best I can.
First, I’ll recognize the exploitative nature of what I’m doing in this video. Istvan is an intelligent, kind and generous man, yet his station in life unrightfully robs him of the dignity required to refuse the money. Doing these ASMR Chess videos is part of a career I’m trying to build, and as such I am exploiting the misfortune of a good man to further my own ends. This is fundamentally against everything I believe a good person should do. Why did I do it anyway?
The ASMR Chess channel has gained me the privilege of being approached by sponsors, who can advertise their products in my videos and make a profit through them. As much as I wish I could, I would never have been able to afford paying Istvan 15.000DKK without the sponsor pooling in a very significant amount of the money. If I didn’t do the video, I couldn’t help Istvan. I decided to go ahead and make and publish the video based on the following reasoning:
The money will make a real and positive difference for a man who truly deserves it.
I’ve spoken to “Hjemløseenheden” which is an organization dedicated to help the homeless in Denmark. They know the practicalities of life on the street much better than I. They recommended going ahead with the project, saying that on balance it would do considerably more good than harm. They also cleared up many points for me, regarding how to handle the video with as much dignity and respect as possible.
I asked Istvan if he wanted to be in the video, both before and after. He readily accepted.
This was not charity. The money was payment for Istvan’s participation in the video. As such it was as close to an equal and fair transaction as I could make it.
In the video I have tried to show Istvan not as “a homeless person”, but as the amazing human being he really is. I’ve tried to mitigate the exploitative nature of the premise, by attempting my best to show that we are all just humans. Some are lucky, some are not. - Zábava

This is my favorite video of yours. You talking about equality and relating it to the game was amazing. Heartfelt, empathetic, informative, and kind. Istvan taught me life lessons in 15 minutes. Such a great video showing an inside glimpse of what Istvan experiences on a daily basis. He is such a wholesome guy and not ashamed of himself, very intelligent and has a much better soul than most people ive ran into. Its crazy how those who have the least are often the kindest and most humble. Interesting to see him say that was too much and instantly trying to pay the camera man some of the money, really shows his true self.
When I was little I used to play chess with my grandfather, hes the one who actually taught me how to play. This is your first video that ive saw but how did Istvan learn how to play chess?

This is a beautiful video! Istvan seems like a kind soul and I am grateful that he wanted to have this conversation with you and share it with us. Also thank you for making this video, clearly committing to it by editing for 14 hours straight, and being nice to our fellow humans. Some people (too many people) can be so vile to homeless people for no reason. Being homeless does not make you less of a person or worthy of respect. Most people are truly only one or two setbacks away from suddenly being homeless. We should learn to appreciate what we have.
If Istvan is up for it, I would love to see him back on the channel playing chess with you and maybe share some of his life stories with us (or something else)! I hope others agree with me!
Also, Istvan's voice is also surprisingly ASMR-y to me haha, I think the outside setting and not-fully-perfect-sound helps with that.

There is never any problem with recording giving money to people as a means to gain more money in the future to help others. It is not exploiting unless you are careless. Great video. I noticed a line that would work for you in the end game. Instead of taking the bishop in b7, you could play Rook a1, the king is forced to f2, and then you check with Rook f1, protected by the bishop.

This is the power of chess, in the game we are all equal, doesn't matter if you are a king or a peasant, during the game the differences are set aside. Istvan is such a nice gentleman. Nice video :)

When your bishop was pinned to your rook you actually had ra1+ than Rf1+ and that would pick up the bishop

I can see why you would think this can be exploitative, seeing as there are countless videos with homeless people, but I personally think you approached this very well. It's clear Istvan is just a man that was less fortunate than we are, but he isn't anything less than us. He has a very charming personality and I was surprised to see how optimistic he is despite his current circumstances. You did a great thing for a great man and I admire that a lot
