    I made this dress in a rayon fabric and it turned out amazing. My body shape us like yours and I was very pleasantly surprised with this pattern. Also, I didn’t do the lantern sleeves fir the reasons you mentioned, but I have to say that I think that option looks great on you. I actually think it balances out your top area so it doesn’t look as much like a heavy bosom but a very proportional top. Lovely!!!

    Bought this pattern after seeing your makes, but it's a year later and finally cut it out tonight inbetween your sew along for June 2021! I cut it out of a vintage white linen tablecloth I've had for years and used it a lot in days gone by. It's so soft and looking forward to finishing it tomorrow. I just finished a pair of white denim Ginger Jeans, my 3rd pair. I was really needing tops and jeans. Thanks for being such an inspiration and motivating factor to make me challenge myself. I love details and a challenge for sure, but sometimes it's nice to just sew a quick make!

    I would love to see the Jasika blazer as a sew along with your new camera angles. I’d love a slower, multi part project, that needs some careful fitting. I always find those very absorbing. The cielo’s are gorgeous. I just inherited 21 metres of white Irish linen and have had such fun dyeing it in 3mtre lengths. It has a beautiful weight and I’m going to make at least one of the lengths into a cielo.

      I should add that i've made mine in double gauze, chambray denim, a lovely linen viscose and a cotton viscose mix. I love them all but the double gauze is my favourite although its the first one I made so is the one that doesn't fit the best - I wear it over long sleeved tees in winter as it has a bit more slack around the upper bust area. xx

    I kept going back to Closet Case to ponder the Cielo but then I'd decide that no I already have so many woven simple top patterns in my stash to get to this would be just silly :) THEN I finally decided I must have it (probably coming across a blog/vlog of someone's Cielo that was irresistible). With a mind-set GO only to discover of course Heather Lou isn't shipping out printed patterns just now. And if there are printed options that's for sure what I'll buy so it will have to wait after all :) Seeing your Cielos on you just whetted my appetite now even more :) They are all gorgeous on you especially in that beautiful linen. I've become obsessed with linen lately too...and drapey viscose. I bought some drapey, light viscose twill recently that is amazing. Thanks for another inspiring video Whitney. So i can’t decide if you are an inspiration or a bad influence! With linen ordered from thefabricstore, I have made a Cielo. Love it and I can see it becoming my favorite summer dress. I have a question re Cielo : is the shoulder seam designed to be slightly forward? I have looked at lots of Cielo photos online and some shoulder seams are foward and some not. The pattern itself does not specify foward. Yours look like they sit right at your shoulder. The underarm seam lines up with shoulder foward, if that matters. Opinion? Thank you for a great channel!

    I tried cutting out just the short top, I was fine till I tried to find the sleeve. Do you have to print all pieces of the pattern to find it? At the rate I’m going you will be making fall clothes by the time I get this figured 😳. If I like it plenty of roomy should I go up a size? I’m in between the 40 and 42? Hi, Whitney! I have enjoyed watching many of your videos during Quarantine. I have made one Cielo top and have fabric set aside for two more. I had a question about the way this style of bust dart should fit. Mine end at least an inch above my bust line. Is that intended or should I try to lower the dart?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Před 4 lety

      The dart should end around 1-1.5” away from your apex. Because this dart is coming from the armhole and above the apex then it’s probably in the right spot!

    I'm new to sewing and just starting to tackle the cielo dress view C (your brick dress) and I'm also petite at 5 feet, am I supposed to shorten the sleeves for patterns as well? Or did you just leave the sleeves as is on the cielo?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Usually with short sleeves, I don't bother with shortening them. I do have to shorten long sleeves, but I usually leave the short ones as-is. I didn't shorten the sleeve on this pattern. However, I did have to do a petite adjustment on this pattern as it's pretty long from the shoulder to the bust point. In the brick colored dress I hadn't done the petite adjustment, but I did it on all the other versions and the fit is much better. I have a tutorial on how to make that adjustment on the channel as well, if you're curious!

      @@TomKatStitchery I see, thank you so much. I’m petite at 5’ but my bust isn’t too large so when I put the cielo dress on after I sewed it, I can’t tell if I need a petite adjustment. I don’t think I have pulling or scrunching, it just falls ok over my smallish bust. I did notice the pattern has a long distance from shoulder to Armscye tho. I also had to lower my bust darts a little. I figure if I did a petite adjustment I guess I might have to lower the darts even more then since it will hike the dress up a bit? But then again maybe if no scrunching of material above my best means I don’t need it? It’s all a bit confusing for me

    How do I find the blog where you detail how to do the facing on the outside?

      All the daily vlogs are on the playlist page under “Creating in Quarantine”. However, I’ve quite a few requests so I think I’ll make that technique it’s own video so it’s easier to find!

      TomKat Stitchery that would be great. I do find searching by key words doesn’t always succeed.BTW I plan to make the Cielo dress in that jacquard fabric from Blackbird Fabrics that you made a jacket out of. Appropriate?

    That dress would be the perfect swimsuit cover up! And, wouldn't it also be great over some just-past-the-knee leggings so you wouldn't have to worry about bending over? And, now I think you need some mid=calf palazzo pants to wear with the tops.
