As a 57 yr old newbie your channel has been a tremendous help to me in the last couple months. This vid is another winner, so much info as I’m looking for a budget Baitcaster to get started with. I have an awesome lightweight spinning reel setup for creeks, another medium for plastics & lures & a med/heavy for Plopper & frog. So far I’ve caught most fish on a Mepps rooster tail but did catch a 5 pounder on a $1 Crankbait

My absolute favorite is the top water frog! The lure that can rival that is the belly-weighted paddle-tail swimbait, when I can't get them up top, that swimbait usually fits the bill. The stickbait is good, I usually fish them weightless, but they don't come through cover as well and the swimbaits. While the grass is still below the surface, I like the chatterbait type lures. lately I've been having good results with the Whopper Plopper 75.

Heck yeah! If I could, I'd throw a frog all day. I see you have been smoking them on the sprinker frog. Need to check out your latest PB vid. Congratulations by the way 👊

18:12 that’s exactly why I watch your channel, you’re not sponsored by a big company out there on a $60k boat loaded with more tech than a submarine, you’re just a dude that loves to fish. You’re right about summer bass. I’d say about half stay shallow through the summer. I just think they spread out more shallow and school up off shore. That said there’s a thermocline at every lake in central NC around 18ft right now. A lot of fish are suspended right above it.

    • @DEBOSFishing

Hey Debo another thought for your choppo and whopper ploppers, add a heavy duty split ring to the nose then add a heavy duty barrel swivel to the split ring. It will cut out the line twist when the final prop gets jammed up with weeds.

    1. Texas rig - rage craw
    2. Buzzbait - KVD and Booyah
    3. Squarebill - 6th sense and KVD

Hey, Dog vs Raptor. I live in Lebanon, Indiana. Where are you smallmouth fishing at. I bank fish and have been looking for a place for smallies. Thought about Eagle creek Park. Fishing in Eagle creek inside the park. Plenty of places to fish on the banks. Glad to see someone from Indy on here. Hope you can give me some info? SHAWN

Shawn Beck White River and Fall Creek here in town. This summer I’ve primarily fished out of my kayak. Sugar Creek through Crawfordsville is also excellent. For the White off the bank I would go to Holiday Park. For Fall Creek anything north of 38th street damn. Some bank access but plenty of places to wade. I haven’t really be on it this year, but there are lots of quality fish in there.

Debo, put the Whopper Plopper type lures on a swivel. If and when the tails wrap with weed they will twist and ruin your line. I like the Dobbins 7'3" mag heavy for froggin and top water on 50 or 60# braid. It will really drive big hooks home and life time warranty on rod. Also, besides the lures you have mentioned, I like the buzz baits over slightly submerged grass. I'm in Illinois so fish similar waters as you. Some places I get bigger fish by putting the paddle tails on a swim jig instead of the weighted hook. I uses 3/8 blue & Black or blue gill colors.

I have had a great summer fishing retention ponds in the industrial parks. They build these ponds for fires. If one of the really big warehouses catches fire. The fire department hooks up to a huge diesel motor to pump water on to the big warehouses. I have talked with the diesel mechanics and they tell me there are giant bass in these ponds. I personally have caught 4 big largemouth over 5 pounds. My best baits are a Chartruse double willow bladed spinner bait 3/8 oz and baby Rattle Traps in chrome and black. The hooks are really sharp. Using braided 30 pd low vis green line. I was using mono 12 pd line. But the big fish either spit it out or broke the line when trying to get The hooks out. Man, I hate working so hard to get The bass out of the water then the line breaks trying to lip the Bass. Lost 5 big fish this summer. That s why I went to braided line. No stretch. Got em! No line break. See ya! Gone fishing. Shawn

My new #1 lure is the Jig Rig AKA the Jika Rig. I picked it up about 1/2 way thru summer and I have caught the biggest and most fish on it. In the past 20+ years the 4 or 5” Senko either weighted or unweighted was my go to lure. This year I have not caught much of anything on it. I have been using the Big TRD by Z-Man. I think the fact it floats has added a different element to the game.

Just back from Maine - killed it day after day (and night) with the miyagi swimmer from beast coast lures - used the bass “prey” color for largemouth.
Pitched in deep to the pads and pulled it thru slow while jigging it in place every 5 feet or so. They murdered the thing - almost an “angry” hard hit - like “you come into my territory and I am going to eat you”.

My top 5 this year have been interesting. My number 5 would be a square bill crankbait. With the spawn being later than normal this year I was able to fish it a little longer than normal. 4 would be drop shot using a fluke style soft plastic. Number 3 would be a popper. 2 would be a top water spook or walking bait. I caught my pb just 2 weeks ago on a spook. Finally my number 1 would be a Texas Rig. You hit the nail on the head with the bank fisherman comment. The Texas Rig just lit it up this year. My best baits on the Texas rig were a Zoom Brush Hog, a Strike King Rage Space Monkey and the absolute best one was a Berkley 10" ribbon tail worm. I was catching most of those fish on the initial fall on that bait! Now comes the fall. Are you going to put out a video on your favorite fall baits?
