- The first video of my series on how to write generic music, where I simultaneously make fun of different genres while also recreating them.
Today: Post-Hardcore
Song starts at 21:17
You can download the song here: / generic-post-hardcore - Hudba
Thanks a lot for watching! Also give my other videos some love, they're good as well but the algorithm* just promotes this one haha.
*the one from youtube, not Remi Gallego lol
Do you side chain the bass when the kicks overlap?
@@rejuvinatez347 I think so, I usually do. But just a bit, like the first 50ms of punch.
I don’t know what happened to this genre honestly. It used to be anything but generic with bands like Thrice, Dance Gavin Dance, Emarosa (older) etc but somehow got infused with hot topic metalcore and was ruined…
Glassjaw, Thursday, refused, the Blood Brothers, all the greats aren't generic at all. I'm with you.
Fugazi, At The Drive In, Drive Like Jehu…
Circa survive, husker du
my fav album ever is still let it enfold you by senses fail
it's not matalcore fault! Scene kids ruined this genre
You're listening to bad posthardcore if it's generic but yeah
wow that's cool. 7 years of my music production experience in just 25 minutes
took him days to do this little song. No drums, amps, ect to mic up, I could knock a 3 chord track in an about an hour using my daw, that i hate. Mixing would take longer than tracking.
You should have listened to the actual post hardcore bands like:
Saosin
Funeral For a Friend
alexisonfire
Silverstein
Underoath
From Autumn to Ashes
The Used
and so much more but these are just a few to mention to see how creative this genre actually is. You did a good and funny video but that didn't sound like post hardcore to me at all except a few minor details.
i fucking love ffaf
What about Glassjaw, At the Dive-In and Hawthorne Heights?
@@an_38kitkashyap i think thats included in "so much more"
Yes oftentimes it sounds generic,..but we still in love with it :D
I wish there were more videos like this on CZcams. This is awesome
Lots of effort put into this video! I'll be watching stuff you do man
Aaaaand subscribed!
We need generic metal core, please!
Your voice ROCK'S man
Post hardcore is awesome.
This was a lot of fun! Can't wait to see more videos in the future.
Thank you, my offically first organicly generated commentor. :D
Just finished the talking part of the next video today, which will cover the very other part of the metal spectrum. ;)
@@Bosmek SA-weet!!! I’ll be posting videos as. But, more of just music I create. Hope you enjoy as well :)
@@Bosmek Lass jemanden anderen clean singen. Bleibe du lieber an der Gitarre
@@tieukhavu8832 Nö.
came for inspiration and stayed for the entertainment, nice work.
what a great video, the tips you gave here are soooo useful
I also have to reeeeally plan the melodies before singing, otherwise it doesn't work lol
Hey, CZcams recommended me your channel, nice to meet your work! Will be watching it. You have a very beautiful accent! Greetings from Brazil
If I could make a recommendation, add a time tag on the vídeo description to the part the song starts!
@@borissidealmeida Haha didn't know a german accent can be beautiful. :D
Thanks!
Yeah, I can do that, good idea.
Great work I actually like your singing and I learned a bit of things from this
Hahahaha this is amazing!! Post-hardcore is my favourite genre and I think you nailed it :D
Glad to hear!
Awesome format! Super funny :) also i like seeing live what you do on the conputer, educational for a beginner!
Glad you like it! If you are just getting started there is a lot of super helpfull CZcams tutorial content out there, which is far more in depth than my videos. Basically all I know about mixing I learned from YT tutorials. :D
Probably gonna make some serious tipps and tricks videos at some point as well.
@@Bosmek yeah, you can learn anything here! I liked to see your process as a whole :)
Your “how to” videos are severely underrated 🔥
Damn ! So fun ! Keep up !
Banger.
So underrated! This video taught me a lot honestly. Not that I’m gonna use the knowledge or whatever but-
I found your how to videos great! I'd like to see you make a generic "Post Metal" song as well.
Neurosis, Tool , Pelican and Godspeed you are the few bands I think of.
Post metal isn't generic by definition.
Its great! :D Cheers from Slovakia! :)))
"Classic BLEH" Great video man!
Great video subscribed
great!! hugs from brazil!
please how do you get that guitar tone
Last part is fking 🔥🔥
Thanks for the video. Couldn’t you make a video how to deal with the prob when the parts of a song are already done, but it still too short?
Well tbh I never encountered that problem. :D
My songs tend to be too long and in the end I have to ditch some parts.
I mean to make it longer you could just repeat a verse or add another bridge or make the intro or outro a bit more monumental or building up.
@@Bosmek Thanks)
I know you’re memeing them but this shit was kinda helpful lmao
uhhh like that content a lot
This is actually really good lol
What drum plug in are you using? It sounds really good and looks really easy to program.
It's GGD Modern and Massive. The way it programms depends a lot on the DAW tho, in my case Studio One 5. :)
@@Bosmek Thanks for the reply! Thats also the one I use!
@@Bosmek what kind of effects did you put on it ? what preset did you use?
@@liminal-roses Unfortunately there is no short answer to that question. But there are plenty of drum processing tutorials out there. It's less about what you use and more about how you use it.^^
@@Bosmek thank you !! its just that i really love the specific samples you used , and modern/massive has multiple presets , so if i could figure out which ones you used specifically that’d be stellar ^^
What recording program is this I can't really find out how to use mine and watching this already seems easier to program
Studio One.
**challenges self to make a generic song**
**ends up making a banger.**
Also, what drum plug-in are you using?
Whooopsie. :D
It's GGD Modern and Massive.
😁😁😁Wow this is so cool. What software did you use for recording?
This is Studio One 2, I upgraded to Version 5 this year though. :)
What do you use for your drums?
GGD Modern and Massive, as everyone else these days. :D
@@Bosmek what kind of effects did you put on it ? what preset did you use?
Here It is the fun of writting music
wait, when did this become a metal subgenre?
Not gonna lie, the keys in the chorus remind me of falco quite a lot :D
Besides that great work, i enjoyed your tutorial tho i feel your shouting is a bit to much deathmeddl themed
Solid 8/10!(:
True that. Still trying to figure out how to do the angsty emo screaming, but I think I'm making some kind of progress in that matter. You will hear it in the future. ;)
what I thought - the synth sound and vocals makes it sound like a strange mixture of post-hardcore and 80s synthpop xD
Hey the screams epic
Dude I love you lol
@@Bosmek keep writing dude you’re awesome
Try to use melodyne 5 instead of autotune, it has more flexible settings so you can tune your vocals better!)
Yeah I cound't really figure out how to "manually" autotune well. Melodyne is just too expensive for me rn but I got my hands on a similar plugin for less money (Waves Tune LT), which I will use from now on.
On the Post HC track I really just used free snap to grid style tune correction (GSnap and Graillon).
What DAW are you using?
This is Studio One 2, I upgraded to Studio One 5 meanwhile. Can recommend, it's affordable and really slick designwise.
@@Bosmek Ty man I wanna get into producing music
Hahah da steckt viel Arbeit drin
This made me make a song
Thats good to hear!
Watching this video because I write post hardcore but end up with pop punk 😂. But after hearing about how cookie cutter it is, now I question if I should just not change.
Some inspiration won't hurt I suppose 🤷
I feel like pop punk is a lot faster, first and foremost. And relies more on open chords than powerchords and chugging. But these two genres are definitely not my strong side.
@@Bosmek Yeah I definitely find myself jamming out at like 200bpm, I also use a lot of spread triads and palm mutes. I rarely use open chords tho they're too busy and kinda don't make sense in a way (even though I know exactly how chords work).
Your scream is pretty fucking good for not being a vocalist, how'd you learn to scream?
Thanks! I do guttural vocals for a few years on somewhat hobby level now. So even tho I never practice regularily I have at least some idea of what I'm doing.^^
The long scream was actually inhaled, thats probably why it sounded so different and arguably better than the others.
I'll talk about that briefly in my next video. ;)
amaaaaazing job! BUT the shitty vocals made this a little bit original 😎🤘
Yeah, thats what all my freids said too. :D
To be fair, it was literally the first time in my life singing, so of course it would suck. I'm working on it (once in a while at least^^).
How much effort? Yes.
Geoff Rickly from Thursday couldn't sing either, so that's ok
I mean the song is good but... it's more like Powerwolf with breakdowns :))))
this is like weird metal core lol
Hey id love to drop some vox on this. Dm if you're interested. Ill being some serious cheese.
Hey, I'm curently on vacation, but I'll get back to you when I'm home again. I could just upload an unmastered instrumental version to my soundcloud for example.
This isn't post hardcore at all lmao.... More like generic modern metalcore.
Metal ore to me is August burns red, darkest hour, as I lay dying
The shouting and guitar riffs far too metalcore tbh. Saosin, Funeral For A Friend, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance don’t really sound like this tbh. This was more aggressive than the generic metalcore attempt
Nope
When posthardcore went to shit. I mean it sounds cool, just not a fan of this era of the genre. Basically just became metal.
