  • LMU's Global Conversation series presents
The Culture Wars: Black and White
Henry Louis Gates, Jr. + Cornel West
Professors Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Cornel West together at Loyola Marymount University as part of the “Global Conversation” series to discuss the prevalence of culture wars in the U.S. and worldwide. Gates, Jr. and West are two of the most renowned scholars and public intellectuals in the country; embodying the intellectual response to who we are as a nation defined and often divided by our religious, economic, and racial diversity. Drawing on African American history and personal experiences, their talk will encapsulate the way we have lived in the past in terms of race and color, the way we live now, and the ways we can engage and celebrate our commonalities and differences for a better future.

"I #love the brother, that's why I tell him the #truth". Thank you Mr. West.
“#Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.”

Interesting to note the hesitation in the audience to show enthusiasm for Dr. West’s critique of the former President. His delivery may have been a tad bombastic, but his data was accurate.

You should never defend someone just because they are the same race as you. Good job West.

Brother man, you got to love straight before you can love hate. Because hate can't give love like straight can, is why you have to understand straight before you understand hate. Then you will find love in the things you are trying to say.

Are there any groups out in America that broke away from the walking dead. Can we hear what you have to say. Because that old soup being warmed all over again has lost the taste.
