ABOUT US
We’re Colin and Samir, creators based out of Los Angeles California. We make videos about the creator economy, and the lessons we’ve learned over 10 years of being on CZcams. We also interview creators and try to get to the bottom of what’s working on CZcams and where the creator economy is headed.
So great having you guys. Where’s the link to that lemonade?!?! Watch your back Chamberlain Coffee!!
What kind of lemonade?
Mark, I have just got to say, as someone that has taken CZcams seriously and decided to put all aside and focus solely on building a brand on this platform, you are a true pioneer and inspiration to many. Continue building and growing, and you’ll eventually reach every brain in the world.
Hey Mark! Thank you for your videos! You inspire me to finish my manufacturing engineering degree!
Am I the only one that doesn't see ALL this overhead represented in the quality of the video?
I really don't want to be a Debbie Downer and I genuinely like Mark, but I think there should also be genuine feedback.
As a viewer, I don't think it's easy to appreciate the amount of work that went into this. As an entrepeneur, I don't know how this wasn't possible with about 1/10th of the budget.
That might sound extreme, but I mean it..
400k for something that in the OG days of youtube would just be shot with a couple of Gopro's?
Maybe the other creators were (royally) comped, maybe there were aspects of the shoot that were challenging regarding following the drones, especially at night..
But it's hard not to see this as unnecessarily hyperinflating this video.
I love seeing youtubers "make it" and I'm not at all judging what they do with their money, but I think giving honest feedback is always worth it.
I feel like this is (one of) the first times Collin and Samir experienced it like this as well, it seems to shine through the video in some parts.
I got the feeling they were summoned for this "grand spectacle", but it turned out to be a very complex shoot for a backyard scientist video.
Like.. I get with Jimmy, but those shoots are genuinely crazy in scale, pay-outs and set-ups (as have some of Mark's in the past)
Edit: I'd like to revise my initial scope to about 80k, as there are also the material and build costs for his work on the giant dart thing.
Lol
Mark has hit the perfect balance of creating a product that is genuinely beneficial for the world and ties in perfectly with his brand of videos. It's like Saturday morning cartoons meets Bill Nye
PERFECT EXPLANATION
The fact that his products are novel, and educational, make it so much better than just slogging clothing with logos that just seem like a waste. The products being something that he is passionate about makes the difference.
I mean the boxes are cool but i just dont think it actually gets kids excited about learning. Maybe about playing with the product but not learning. He bassically just ripped off kiwi crates
The amount of value you guys squeezed into this 16minute video is insane.
Yeah, this channel got another subscriber today
These are some of my favorite videos you guys make... it's about as close as we get to the old school Colin and Samir vlog days that I miss!
that was what i was trying to put my finger on!!!
@@goofiestgal I miss the old vlog days but love what they're doing now too!
Awesome video guys!
@@johnharman3442 they crushed it!
4:00 is mark driving without a seatbelt?! 😮
Mark’s crew is the best, we met them for his “This Ball is Impossible to Hit” shoot last year!!
i'm telling you Mark is really good at making random things interesting
Wsg fedora dev
I wouldn't say that. He's good at making you interested in science by using random and fun things.
@@ColdycoderM YURRR
@@JamStew I thought I just said that
That's the smartest business model I've ever seen on CZcams. People usually do brand deals to make money, spreading word on THAT business, but Mark is making money from his own business doing the marketing himself spreading word on HIS own biz.
Its like a more wholesome version of MrBeast Chocolate.
@@metamorph8343 Except he that moved his HQ less a mile from KiwiCo, once being their best influencers, stole their whole business model with Crunchlabs and pretty much blindsided them.
@@metamorph8343 Except the fact he moved his HQ to less than a mile from KiwiCo and stole their whole business model blindsiding them after they paid him thousands as one of their best influencers.
The chocolates pretty alright, healthier than most anyway. Likely more ethically sourced too@metamorph8343
@@metamorph8343i didn’t know there was something inherently not wholesome about feastables business model?
"I don't make videos to make moneys ... it's just a platform to advertise Crunch Labs" and this video as a whole perfectly show a shift in the last video Mark launched. There is a risk his videos seem more like an advertisement, especially with these big budget production crews. There was something magic with his old videos which I think might get lost now...
True, but don't matter to him if he's making bank
@@jonathan2350 he was making bank anyway
@@adventurist86 Making bigger bank now.
@@jonathan2350 I disagree, if all he wanted was money, he could have cashed out big time , 50 Mil+, and walked away. Believe it or not, not every person is obsessed with just having more. Some people, when they have enough, just really want to give it around.
I started feeling that way in last couple of his videos. And this video perfectly summarised it, and well he heard it from Mark himself.
Great video!
Please make more of these behind the scenes, catching creators in the act. Brilliant work.
Yeah, Colin and Samir back to the roots 😊
Lacrosse?
I love the direction and editing of this video. The lemonade stand moment really felt special.
I love that he's so focused on his mission instead of being distracted with view count, stats, and business. Those things will happen, but they will stay and be meaningful because of his mission.
It’s so refreshing to see someone like mark rober being so casual, you rarely see this side of celebrities like him. seeing this side of him also makes him that much more likable and funny, so much so I wanna be great casual friends with someone like him, even more than I did before
Very cool to see the work Mark puts in every day. He seems to have found his calling. His passion for helping others become engineers is really something.
The storytelling was INSANE on this video. I'm in awe.
Please never stop making this documentary style videos, it is so fascinating to get a first hand look at how these people conduct their business
Mark’s Vision is UNMATCHED the turret gun idea is so COOL
You cannot imagine the effort and dedication of these CZcamsrs until you spend a day with them.
Success doesn't come to your door step for free, you need to grab it and pay for it by your time and commitment.
Thanks Colin and Samir for these videos which very helpful for us as small creators.
Holy shit. This was eye-opening. Thank you guys.
Except for the first 2 words... I agree!
I like this thumbnail. You still have your font and that yellow, but it's based on a moment from the video. So I have the trust of knowing what I'm going to see. The book cover matches the story. Also the car creates a "where we going" question in the subconscious mind. It all fits this video well. I know thumbnails are all about exaggeration right now, but If it falls along the same trend as Book Covers, viewers are going to be turned off by covers (or thumbnails) not matching the story. IDK if this shot of Mark was perfect, but him being mid sentence does tell us we're about to hear him talk. The quote was perfect to.
One of my favorite videos from you guys of recent. I super appreciate that rather than shying away from the hardcore business concepts in order to keep the content broadly understandable, you made a big effort to explain them so that they *became* broadly understandable - and for those of us who knew stuff like LTV already, kept this a valuable lesson.
Mark Rober and his team is inspiring for very many reasons, most of all the happiness and inspiration they bring to people around the world, but I really appreciated seeing this side of their business as something that just seemed really smart.
So many people around my age 30-35 are pretty excited to get our kids/nieces/nephews a crunch lab sub. Its like the best step up from lego.
Getting kids comfortable around building things for themselves is fun and just such a good life lesson. If anyone deserves the success it's Mark. Thanks for being an awesome role model.
This is my favorite video y’all have made in a long time. Super creative lemonade stand example, and really great hearing you narrate your day at Mark Rober’s. I love seeing Colin in front of the camera too
I can't imagine having that much overhead just to break even.. It's such a struggle to break even just affording 2 Rent costs. Our local family business & the rent at our house. I'm genuinely happy for Mark and his outlook on life. It's far too often we only see people focus on the dollar but he's found a way to focus on his passion and with how he's approached this, the money just works out. His mind really is in a good place.
love this style of video!! also so fun to see creators slowly turning into their own studios/companies
24 Hours with an absolute inspiration
Oh no. Mark Rober, put your seatbelt on
I think he wears it under his shoulder. I was wondering if I was the only one wondering that...
I think you could see his lap a couple times and it didn't look like he was buckled in at all. It looked like the belt was buckled in, and he was sitting on top of it, until just the very end there, when he was wearing it properly, but still constantly tugging at it.
Amazing story telling and so much value packed into a video! ❤
This video made me so proud of Mark. I mean seeing where he started in making the best videos on CZcams, to where he is at now! Amazing. Glad Mark is becoming a massive engineer.
the quality of your videos has gone up so much recently, it's really cool to see
Love this style of video! And i love how you trying to figure out the story was part of the story! Well done!
Samir and Colin. Your storytelling abilities are amazing ❤ I loved the video, the audio quality, the scenes, the transitions. CZcams should be like this. I hope to also see this as a youtube short in your channel soon.
Incredible video Colin and Samir. Truly incredible ❤
I love this channel because it tells the stories of creators, while they tell the stories of their content. A “day on location” with these massive names is absolutely delightful.
I love all your content and the newsletter. This video might have been the most interesting one I've see so far! Great stuff!! And, I love @markrober 's channel too. I bought a friend one of his classes a couple of years ago for Xmas.
Amazing video! love the on the Road videos, spontaneous shoots, everything is so real. It goes great on your channel with the interviews!
A fascinating case study on creator and product ;with a truly delightful creator
The combination of just pure fun with inspiring kids to learn is priceless.
Such an amazing insight!!! From the Mark Rober POV to the FInancials.... thanks for sharing!!
I love this style, as well as your conversations with videos, you guys are awesome❤️
This is easily my favorite video from Colin and Samir. Getting behind the scenes and talking with the creators about how they do their work is amazing and inspiring, but actually going behind the scenes and seeing it like in this video and with the launch of beast burger previously actually shows live what they are doing.
Legit one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. Really well made. Good stuff Colin and Samir
I just love how dedicated Mark is to improving the world. You see thousands of creators creating brands and products in order to make money where as Mark genuinely wants to offer kids the chance to learn and engage their brain
I used to be a huge tln fan back in the day and stopped watching you guys when you made the switch to do your own stuff. Coming back now im just amazed in the quality and commitment you have to make the switch work. You have earned back my viewership! Good stuff fellas!
Mark is a gem. Such a great heart.
very eye opening video. wishing Mark all the best. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Really love your documentary style sort of interview about a specific creator business related aspect! Felt really great watching this 👍
This was my favourite video you guys have done yet. Great storytelling and very informative. Thank you👏🏼👏🏼
Super inspiring
This is probably the best ad/explainer I've ever watched
this is a really well put together video, outside of the actual topic. well done colin!
You guys really know what you're doing. I'm a Mark Rober audience. Great presentation, title and good video overall. Loved it. ❤
Thank you for making this. I’ve referenced crunch lab and beast chocolate for the last year while starting my climbing shop which as exploded because of building my CZcams audience for the last 7 years without anything to sell and sponsors in my niche are non-existent. I can’t believe CZcams doesn’t charge me to share my videos. Anyone doing social media for ad revenue is missing the gem that it is. I wouldn’t even know how anyone could build a business today without adding value to audience and customers through social media. This video you made was amazing. 🙏
I really appreciate Mark Rober and love what he is doing. I also love the idea of turning this into a business that teaches kids (and adults) how to build things. That should be rewarded!
But at the same time he needs to be really careful with the balance of how much of his videos are ads and how much is the content. People watch because of the content, after all.
Mark have really done something amazing. So much better than what other creators products are. Its helping him fund his videos and yet the benefit of the viewers / value of the product is very high
Lovee ❤ I couldn’t wait to buy the adult version of the packs and I’ve learned so much about business in this video!
Love the documentary style
I love these behind the scenes videos! Great insight for smaller creators!
love the creative style on this one!
This was awesome to see, thanks for doing this
Glad that I came here after watching Mark's video first. Love BTS stuff like this!
Love the new sets that you're building around the studio
Thank you, I learned something from this big time. For a while now I been wanting to get merch, I think it be mostly for me just to advertise for myself more and sell a few to loyal subs. But I can’t remember the exact words used but some to the effect that mark has been advertised for years and the people wanted something to buy that relates to him and then. This basic idea has given me the idea of what to do and how to approach it. I had this idea for a while but thought about it completely different and now I think it’s the merch I always wanted the whole time. It’s perfect to relate what I do and what the people relate to me. Thanks again guys. Also the video was great. Who doesn’t love a lil mark in a video, right?
God I love your guys channel so much. Awesome BTS and insights, and you make it so fun!
Fascinating
There are some genuinely incredible people on CZcams!
Loved the visiual explanation of CAC and LTV!
This was a fantastic video. Well done guys.
Great video, awesome Info, spectacular dude! Good job
this felt like a classic colin and samir vlog, brought back the nostalgia! loved it :)
C & Z I’m loving the format style, please keep them coming as much as possible.
Loved this
I have followed Mark since the Christmas sweater with an iPad. He deserves this I love that he is getting the attention he deserves
You guys, this video is so good. Well done 🥂
Thank you for talking about Crunch Labs. I've been curious and now I'm excited for his boxes for us older adults.
Great video, keep it up. Thank you
Amazing video! Here are my takeaways:
- Best CZcams videos can seamlessly promote your products.
- A perfect product combines having a clear mission, intellectual property, and something to sell.
- A perfect company is one in which videos support the products, and products support the videos.
- Creator businesses have two advantages they should leverage:
- Lower Customer Acquisition Cost
- More insights into how well a video converts into sales
- Higher possible Lifetime Value
We can't wait for this!! We love Kiwiko but i feel like these will be more challenging 😁
Wow love this format
Amazing to see how much went into Mark's new video.
I love watching an amazing or emotional CZcams video then seeing the associated Colin and Samir video come up! Yall do incredible work
Wow, thanks for giving us a peek behind the curtain of Mark Rober's CZcams world and Crunchlabs! It's like getting a backstage pass to our favorite show! A+
I'm glad you put that last part in, because for the longest time it almost felt as if it was portrayed as just a cool company that generated a lot of money (at least to me), not a company to inspire many and help educate. :)
I really, really respect Mark Rober
I met Mark in a CZcams event in september 2022, and back then, he couldn't stay longer cause he had to edit his next video. And i remember him saying a lot of things about how good it was to have a small team for the youtube channel and the company (crunchlabs had just been launched). Watching this video reminded me of this conversation we had and how crazy it must have been the past 18 months for him expanding crunchlabs into what it is now. This video is amazing, but I bet there is MUCH more to explore into this story. Fascinating! 👏👏👏
Loved this video.
This was suchhh a good video. This style of video is definitely one of my favorites. As an engineering student in college its always fun seeing the passion that Mark has for it. Also 11:18 - nice sign spinning skills Colin😂
Wow a video about mark rober... Amazing that man is one of my mentors in the CZcams space
this was the most educational vlog ive ever watched... 1000/10
Supper interesting video gave me a lot to think about. Those are the best kind of videos. Cheers Gul
Brilliant video and great insight
Yesssss
yuh
yes
smart and helpful story to share
This format works really well. I'd love to see one with Mr. Beast, Smosh, or any other YT that has grown into a business. Really fascinating to see not only their philosophies on business, but also their story of what got them to this point. Keep it up y'all.
one of the greatest ones
Mark is an authentic genius
Is CZcams maturing? Is this what it looks like? Is Mark setting the path for future business models with CZcams at the centre? Engineering is such a small segment of the world market, who else could use what Mark has done to positively impact lives in such a way? Bravo Mark! And thank you team C&S
Nicely done in this vid Colin! Just heard Mark on the How I Built This Podcast and y'all did an awesome job.
That looks so fun. My dad and sister had the honor of meeting Mark Rober and I’m so jelly.
Love this type of video
