    You really have stumbled across some neglected commercial rooftop systems lately.

      @@MiHeatingGuy He was doing checks on the ac & checking the gas valve for any leaks as I smelled a quick bit of gas when I had opened the cabinet. I explained to him the second inducer failed after only three seasons and I watched a guy on YT remove and install a new one so I did the same thing as it was easy once I learned how to do it watching you. I told him who you were and he said he follows you too. My summer pm checks were all good and the gas valve checked out after leak testing with the heat off and then on. It's a 14 year old Infinity system so it's getting a bit long in the tooth but I do get the pm done regularly.

    Being an electrician for several years in the 2000's, being laid off and suckered into a phony business deal that costed me 10's of thousands of dollars, ruining a decade of my life, watching master technicians like yourself working on beat down junk every day actually gives me some kind of comfort that I turn into learning. Being in my mid 40's, having many contractors telling me i'm getting up there in age and being skeleton build automatically think I can't do physical work forced me into retail working at the largest retailer in the world making 18 dollars an hour stocking produce all day long. I work in a comfortable air conditioned building all day, earning paid time off and have sick days that build (slowly) and cheap health insurance. I had several contractors scoff at me telling me they could only give me part time or 30 hours a week for 12 dollars and no pto or health benefits. I feel betrayed, let down, sickened, and feel that I could do better but no one really cared to see the potential and compete with what I do now so these videos give me comfort away from drugs and alcohol. Thanks again for keeping my mind occupied and learning a lot and sharing what I know with others like yourself.

    Love the videos and enjoy seeing another techs level of being professional. I thought i was the only tech that checked exchangers in the summer. One not so good thing i saw, that i had to learn the hard way was putting panels against the unit. Had a boss tell me not to do that. I was thinking whatever. I kept doing it and one day the wind picked up all if a sudden and blew a panel leaning against the unit into the condenser of another unit. After that i lay them on the roof. If i work with other techs, i lay their panels down.....just sayin

    Question, is that a drain pipe? The small one coming out the a.c unit (looks like a U side ways) if so if it has water coming out through there can that be causing a water leak when it rains?

    both coils are probably chock full of crap too, I hate the type that looks clean, but are very dirty deep inside, due to stamped/splayed fins.
    but by golly they were efficient for about a month after they left the factory. 🤣

    You tell the customer to cover up the return air grills with some filter media before they start drywalling …..a month later that’s what you get.
    Then they are deer in the headlights when they get your bill. They never learn.😄

    I'm not an HVAC tech, but I find your videos very interesting. If you've already had a video about the reading on your cell phone from your probe, then please send me a link to the video. If not, on suggestion is that you make a video that describes what all the settings are. I can conjecture that a lot of the readings are temperatures at points such as the suction (larger) tube, and the high pressure (narrower) tube. What is "superheat"?

    • @cmc7256
      @cmc7256 Před 2 lety +2

      Superheat is the sensible (not latent) energy reading/temperature over the saturation point and is a completely useless reading on it's own without additional information. The rest of the measurements on that app are all other technical readings used when inspecting/diagnosing the individual types of refrigerants, their charges, and how said refrigerants are interacting with the system. In addition just knowing the app won't be very helpful simply because you need more than the phone app to actually take those measurements.
      And not to come off as a jerk, but to put it bluntly, if you aren't a technician or educated in what a technician needs to know, that app and the rest of the information is useless.

    • @phaedrus2633
      @phaedrus2633 Před 2 lety +2

      @@cmc7256 Thanks. I'm an old phone tech and I realize that these measurements must be taken with sensors. I see MI Heat Guy apply them before he uses his cell phone to read them. I'm not interested in acquiring all the equipment to take these measurements. I would just like to know what to look for when the MI Heat Guy shows the readings. And, the mechanics of thermodynamics interests me as well.

    • @cmc7256
      @cmc7256 Před 2 lety +1

      @@phaedrus2633 Look up the "mechanic refrigeration cycle" and it will tell you alot of what you are looking for. And superheat and/or subcooling is a way to measure if the refrigerant charge amount is correct, or if there is an issue.

    Why did you check the heat exchanger? Honest question, not a critique.

    • @MiHeatingGuy
      @MiHeatingGuy  Před 2 lety +2

      You don't want to do an air conditioner repair and come to find out in the fall that you have a bad heat exchanger when you can take care of it all at once Or the customer can make an educated decision on what they want to do with the unit if there's something else wrong with it

    • @ATSNorthernMI
      @ATSNorthernMI Před 2 lety

      I would check the exchanger on everything after a certain year and more importantly, problematic years when manufacturers cheapened out. You could also run the risk of the exchanger being over fired for many years causing it to slowly rust and can be destroyed in 1 or 2 heating seasons. You can easily tell an over fired/improperly fired exchanger by taking off a few screws and looking at it. I'd do it for occupants safety especially when there is no CO monitors installed.

    I've gotten in the habit of checking heat exchangers during cooling season. Especially carriers! I've found most rtus i work on are not well maintained. Also what brand are your digital gauges? Much easier to not have to deal with holding a door over your hoses.

Yes, check it all over - sign of a good caring super 🛠📿tech - that's what the customer pays 💰you for !!! Give it some needed juice to get it perfect. A job well done !!!! The store here has so many issues with leaks and failures and the owner being so cheap even purging your lines causing him to go "why you wasting all that gas" leaves the gauges installed permanently attached to the manifold with a tank of gas there just in case she needs a little squirt every now and then. This is on a huge 5 compressor parallel rack that has such a beat up condenser table that I can't even believe its still working today. A bracket rusts out or bolts just shear off and you have a 1 1/2 horse 3 phase motor just banging away like a freaked out bull chopping up the tubes and fins like they were paper. He just have his guy throw a huge bead of solder on there and fire it back up. He had roof ice blast guards and 2 or 3 motors off their brackets and took the insurance money and went on vacation. Had his guy booger it up and it has no guards. A camper was dumping his sewer and had a fan blade fly by his head and stuck in his 100,000 motor home. You can't even make this shit up. I get a call to go add some gas to this thing and I know nothing about it. Yeah, I can wire things but I don't touch gas. Anyways, It's already setup, I can walk you through it. I go there and see a tank of 404 gas and gauges there and see the site glass just bubbling like a hefty beer and he tells me to open valves and then I start hearing a compressor knock like my buddies car did when he ran it out of oil and next thing you know, it all shuts down with a high pressure light. Dude is freaking out telling me i'm stupid not understanding what he's saying and shutting off all these valves and then after about 30 seconds it all came back on and started up one by one, no flashing sight glass and I went back home and went to bed. I almost thought this was a dream until he wanted to know how much he owed me for fixing his shit.
