    Fan capacitor. I spin the blades to check also. With no former training, I found out that little trick just by trial once. It's a handy tip to know that the motor spins freely and hasn't seized up.

      Actually that can tell you alot. Cap usually, but seized, you would hear it....

    I went to school for HVAC, and I have field experience. One of the reasons a capacitor could go bad is the condenser fan motor could be going bad.

    It looks like you are connected to the discharged line coming out of the compressor, which is a high-pressure vapor.

    Thanks for this video! We have a rooftop A/C on a 4-story condo building with 55 apartment units and the cooling is poor, even on 80-degree days. I know enough not to call a service company and speak your language, well almost!

    High Subcool and High Superheat indicates a restriction in the metering device along with dirty condenser coils. Did you replace filters? Good video✌️

      The sub cooling was high because he was checking the discharge pressure and not the liquid line pressure. He would need to install a liquid line pressure line tap to read the sub cooling. Carrier does not install a liquid line pressure line fitting, to much money.

    looked like u hooked to the discharge instead of liquid line. thought u cant measure subcool that way

      Some units only have one port

      I agree… it was the discharge line. Liquid line is after condenser. If I’m wrong please correct me.

    Parabéns pelos seus vídeos. Estas placas deste equipamento são iguais para todos os modelos de ruf top? O seu manômetro que vc acompanha pelo celular, qual modelo dele? Aqui no Brasil nunca encontrei deste modelo!!!! Parabéns

    I have never heard a tech say there's always a reason why a capacitor goes out.

    • @Brisket9392
      @Brisket9392 Před 2 lety +3

      They do just go bad. The plates deteriorate. Heat will kill them faster.

    • @fragartyparty
      @fragartyparty Před 3 měsíci

      A tech once told me that back in the day capacitors were huge and could outlast an AC unit. Then one day, capacitors got really small and their lifespan was greatly reduced.
      Planned obsolescence

  • @michaelthurber2660
    @michaelthurber2660 Před 2 lety +3

    Please get in the habit of totally disconnecting the cap before reading. Same with compressors.

    • @murkyturkey5238
      @murkyturkey5238 Před 2 lety

      Lol it doesn’t make a difference and compressors, you can check the wires at the same time

    AC tries to turn on and buzzes for 10-15 seconds, then it turns off. No fan. Nothing…. Tried turning it from ON to OFF a few times, and still have nothing going on when I try it.

    Is it standard for the compressor to get really hot to the touch?
