    I recently bought a hoodie sweatshirt and it was drastically reduced from $40 to $7 due to a faulty separating zipper. Now, with the purchase price of a new separating zipper and your free tutorial, I can make my hoodie whole and functional again. Thank you so much!

      There are some pretty good videos on shortening a separating zipper out there. Basically you remove the unnecessary teeth with plyers or needle nose plyers, breaking them up to remove them. Then you either attach a new stop, or carefully remove the old one and crimp it in the new location.

    I'm running into an issue replacing a separating zipper in a fleece jacket. the fleece stretches. I put it in once - it was awful, tore that out - now kinda stuck. would I follow this the same way or do I need to stabilize the edges?

    • @yangelthomas
      @yangelthomas Před 3 lety

      Obviously I am not professor pincushion but thats a great idea. I had to stabilize the zipper area with interfacing of my pants because the fabric was very thin. After placing the zipper it was fine.😊

    You are amazingly skilled and talented! I'm sewing up this sport zipper on a scuba swim top I made, will I need to zig zag stitch because this is a stretch fabric?

    • @ProfessorPincushion
      @ProfessorPincushion  Před 8 lety +1

      It's not going to hurt anything to sew on the zipper using a zig zag stitch instead of a straight stitch but if the zipper tape itself doesn't have any stretch then it's probably not going to make a difference. :)

      Professor Pincushion Hi There, I read many of the comments and found that a few of us are getting stuck with the same thing, ‘finishing the band collar’. If you don’t have a tutorial, can you suggest one? I myself have spent ages trying to find an example that makes any sense. I’ve partially added a zip to my garment but can’t finish the top end. We need you Professor Pincushion. Please respond.😩

    i have a question, how do you fold over the edge of the material that the zip is being sewn to? do you do it by hand or is there something like a presser foot that turns it over?

    • @ProfessorPincushion
      @ProfessorPincushion  Před 7 lety

      when you sew your seam, the zipper is faced down, but as soon as you flip it out so it's right side up, the seam allowance of the fabric automatically folds on its own. Hope that helps. :)
