    1) Stop apologizing for going back to see the parts you liked. I daresay most of us watch reactors to see them enjoy the songs we enjoy.
    2) You HAVE TO see the live performance of this song on The Sing-Off, when they went back the season after they won it. The choreo is so good, and the judges were so happy to see them again. Shawn Stockman ran up & hugged them all. (Edit) Well, maybe after you get to all their other songs.

    In regard to members having other projects, they've all done that. Kevin does solo work, as has Kirstie. Avi released an album right when he announced his departure, back in 2017, under the name Avriel & The Sequoias, teaming up on some of the tracks with 3 old friends. The whole EP is great, with cuts like his cover of Outkast's "Hey Ya!", and originals like "Quarter Past Four" and "Fields & Pier". Early in 2019, he released "I'll Get By", with his most successful song so far, "Change on the Rise", in which he sings all parts and sounds, with the exception of some synth organ and tambourine in the bridge. His style, while wide-ranging, centers on Folk/Americana - a 180 from the pop focus of PTX. He and his touring band leave for a European tour tomorrow, then an abbreviated American tour in the summer.

    This song after 2 years was the first time that anyone had heard Avi sing melody and was first heard at their Sing Off return appearance with Avi's part as a dramatic surprise on stage. Avi sings in Scott's range and below and was trained in opera, choral, jazz and comedic forms at college. After he left Pentatonix, at his interviews for his first E P. under his own name, he mentioned how no one had heard him sing.
    Avi Kaplan has always sung with a backing band doing harmonies. First as Avriel and the Sequoias and now just under his name Avi Kaplan but with Kaleb Jones on bass and Noah Denney on drums. For the newest tour he is on right now in Europe for his album produced by Shooter Jennings he has added pedal steel.

    There is a slow reggae vibe on their cover of 'Ride' by Twenty One Pilots. There are 2 videos for it, one live and another "couch style" official video that was taken down at Twenty One Pilots' request but has reappeared on CZcams. Little difference between the sound of the 2 except I think the production is marginally better on the couch version.

    They did a couple of songs on the Sing Off that had some reggae vibes. 3rd prerformance Janis Joplin's Piece of My Heart and 8th performance Sugar Land's Stuck Like Glue. Might check out their 4th one, Video Killed The Radio Star, and see when most people feel like they had REALLY started to find their groove together. Remember all 5 of them didn't even meet till the day before the auditions. The first 3 were great but the 4th showed how much talent they really have and what they were capable of together. Also listen to the judge's comments. mrduckbear11 has all of their performances with their comments before the performance and judge's comments. My personal thought is people should check out all of their performances to see how much they grew during that show and where they've gotten to now.

    You heard Avi mention the A Cappella Academy, which he, Ben Bram (PTX's producer/arranger) and Rob Dietz (composer/arranger) founded just before this video was shot. It's a 10-day intensive music camp for 12 to 18-year-olds from around the world, held at a university near LA every summer (although remotely in 2020 & 2021). They learn vocals, performance, theory, and specialties like beatboxing and bass singing (which Avi coaches whenever his schedule allows). At the end of the 10 days, they do a showcase performance, with individual groups and the full choir. To give you an idea of how amazing these kids are, as well as to give you a taste of how Avi writes for choral groups, here's his original song "The Seed", done by the 2019 class. czcams.com/video/XZ89BHmRfws/video.html

    Thanks for the reaction. They only have solo careers except Superfruit, but that does mean that they didn’t occasionally collaborate with someone. Kirstie is in several Superfruit videos. Scott did a couple of video with a college friend named Rozzi.

  • @h_r2991
    @h_r2991 Před 2 lety +6

    Their agreement was that they can do anything they want, as long as PTX is the priority.
    Scott: He had 3 albums/EPs prior to/early PTX, and he has done many collabs/covers in either his own channel "scotthoying" or other people's channels (beside tons of videos in Superfruit channel). The most recommened ones are "Lost on you" and "I should tell ya momma on you", but my favorite covers are "Wake me up" and "All of me", and also Ghost with "Frankie" (in her channel) and "Lose Us" with Rozzi (in her channel).
    Micht: He had a recent EP, Roses in 2021 under the name "Messer". Some of the songs are in his channel "Messer". He rarely did collabs beside PTX and Superfruit.
    Kirstin: She had a 2017 EP, LOVE. Some of the songs are in her channel "kirstin". My favorite (not from her album) is her singing "Somewhere over the rainbow" (in her channel). She did also some collabs with other a capella groups (Voctave, Forte).
    Avi: He had 2 EPs, both after PTX, an album in 2 months. Some songs are in his channel "Avi Kaplan". My favorite is "Change on the rise".
    Kevin: He had a 2015 EP, The Renegade. Some songs from the albums are in his channel "Kevin Olusola", beside that, he did tons of covers also. Note that he did non-singing(instrumental/beatboxing/cello-boxing) only videos prior to 2017, and mostly singing with looping after that. You can not go wrong with any of his music videos...
    Matt: Not clear to me, but he supposed to have an album with his church choir group in 2019.

      But the two solo collabs Mitch has (one with a pianist, one with a guitarist) are amazing. Graveyard and Find You (on Evan Duffy's channel). He also has a cover of Billy Eilish's Your Power that is really popular... and a couple live performance fan-recorded solos. It's too bad he pulled down all the covers from his channel when he changed it to Messer, but the videos are still floating around.

    Hello SalvoG. Great reaction. For more of Mitch's smooth vocals try "Anchor" (original but no music video), "Can't Help Falling in Love With You" (Elvis Presley cover). For a great PTX beat try "O come All Ye Faithful" (you don't have to wait for Christmas) and "Cheerleader" or "Come Along" (see if you can stay seated for that) or "Happy Now" (original with a great music video). Avi has gone solo and has been releasing a lot lately. Kevin has also released solo work which includes singing, beat boxing, playing cello, keyboards and drums (yes.....and sometimes all in the same song); Mitch performs solo under the name and image of Messer with a recent EP entitled "Roses" including songs "Machine" "Love Supply" "Angels Pray" "Roses" (all originals where he wrote the lyrics, and the musical score, played keyboard and sang). Kirstie also has solo work. Word is out that Matt may be releasing work with a groups soon.

    I love how fun this song & vid is, and that light reggae feel (they have had it in a couple other songs but they escape me off the top of my head except that one was on the Sing-Off)
    Scott has done many awesome duets (and trios) he might be the king of underrated collabs... & I'm still finding new ones lol:
    several with Rozzie Crane (they're great friends - they also have a podcast together called Ugh! You're So Good, which I have honestly found to be interesting, insightful, hilarious, and inspirational. I would recommend it to anyone who needs to be reminded that anyone can go for their dreams & be successful, it's helped me to start thinking differently about failure; they have some great guests too including Kevin & Kirstie), some are just them with a mic & a guy who instrument, and then they have the produced one with a vid which is Lose Us;
    Mario Jose they sang Lost on You, and Shallow, which was at a live show;
    Ghost with Frankie, a fun one but non-pg;
    Call Me Maybe with Luke Edgemon;
    Don't Wanna Miss A Thing with Vincint;
    Roar with Tori Kelly;
    Creep with Caitlin (forgot surname);
    Shoshana Bean - All To Me;
    Blowin' In The Wind ( Cover ) with Mario Jose & JuliaHarrimanMusic, on her channel needs more love czcams.com/video/oKNCv5ZUCKI/video.html
    On top of her offical solo stuff Kirstie, has some wonderful goofy parody songs she did during lockdown (Hello & Good Morning Quarantine) that are on her partner's channel Hausdo (he's the groups videographer so there's a tone of ptx stuff on there too), and I believe she has also done something with VoicePlay a while ago too.
    As well as his solos stuff, Kevin had a thing as part of Tryptyq (I think was the spelling) for several years, playing cello with them on a number of things but not sure if he sung or beatboxed too.
    Mitch seems to have privated everything on his account that isn't Messer related, but there are reuploads by others out there of his other stuff (such as Graveyard and Your Power). While Superfruit have done collabs with other artists (like Rozzi, Tori Kelly etc), IDK if Mitch has ever done a duet with someone (well, a singing duet, there's a credited duet with someone playing amazing piano while he sings: Zedd - Find You, I think with Evan someone).
    As a group, they did The Wizard of Aahs! and Black and White with Todrick Hall (I think the latter was just the Trio, and can't recall if you've reacted to the former).
    Of course everyone has mentioned Avriel & the sequoias, their Hey Ya! Is so cool & unexpected.
    TL;DR: Basically there's a lot to react to still lol. And some of the gems are not in the expected places (eg not on their own official channels)

    Not my fav either. I think that Superfruit is the only group type. Kirstin is a sucker for collabs, but not one group. You should check out 90s dance music or the incredible Wizzard of Ahhhs. Thanks for another great reaction! 😁😁😎 PS where was Ellie Goulding? 🤔
