    Hey man,
    Just wanted to say how awesome I think you are. I've been an audio pro for over 20 years, and I've got a full-time gig working with some of the highest-end stuff that money can buy....but I didn't buy it, my bosses did. You have built something from the ground up, and you are crushing it--your attitude is absolutely top-notch, and your knowledge seems to be comprehensive. You are honest in what you're doing, and I truly look up to you. I really don't think that I could get to where you are if I had to do it alone....I get to work on Meyersound arrays and Digico consoles everyday, but it doesn't amount to even half of what you've built for yourself. I would almost bet money that we went to the same school. Go get 'em!

    Good advice. I have a ceremony rig that's a little more involved but that's because I often have to use more than one mic, plug in a musician or two, etc. I'll have to do a video on it, but for the most simple application, this is the solution.

    Sometimes it pays to keep it simple. A buddy of mine does a couple of events a year, and has a couple of Battery powered QTX Speakers; got in build radio mic receiver, MP3 player and also has some mixing control. They're about £200 a piece. Nowhere near as nice a set up, but for occasional use or someone starting out (like me) they're great.

Just the stand fell off the roof, thankfully not any of my synths, lol.

  • @mitchec01
    @mitchec01 Před 4 lety

    I’m running a similar rig. Quick question- do you have a storage/transport solution for the tray to keep it nice? For now I just put it back in the cardboard it shipped in, but that won’t last forever.
    Second question- when you use the headset mic, that probably doesn’t pick up the bride and groom much at all, even if you are boosting the gain. More and more of my clients are reading their own vows... and when they are not repeating after the officiant, they need to be amplified. Thoughts? Solutions? Is that not an issue you face?
    I would love to use a headset, but stick with my Sennheiser ME-2 so I can catch the bride and groom as well.
    Great video... gave me the idea for my compact ceremony set up. Like you, I’m getting old and want to simplify.

    Hey bro... Do you mind going into some of the more technical stuff like "how to calculate the watts of system you need at a location"...
    This stuff is something I always mess up... Would love it if you could make a video abt that topic..

    • @PaulGariepy
      @PaulGariepy Před 5 lety

      Its not about watts its about total system gain. So basically you need to establish how loud (DB) you want and at what distance and coverage area. Once you have that you would need to calculate using your speakers sensitivity rating how much power you need to put into them to get the volume you need. for an example If I am doing a rock concert with jbl SRX722 speakers that have a 75 deg H pattern I know I need 2 speakers a side to cover most of the audience in a large venue if the venue was more like a hall or tunnel one cab night work with some fills on stage up front. If I want 105 db at 50ft back from the stage using the inverse square law we can establish that 1450w into the 97db sensitive SRX722 will yield 105db at 50ft back. I will also need 4 cabs to cover the venue with this level so thats 1200x4 or 4800w on the tops. In this same example if I use a more efficient cab like EAW KF750 thats 103db sensitive I now only need 400w per cab to get the same volume at that distance. With line arrays the details change as a proper line array can throw 2x the distance without dropping as much (3db per doubling of distance vs 6db for a point source cab aka a regular speaker.) So you can save wattage there to at the expense of more cabs. Generally speaking it pays to have more speakers vs more watts as the savings in power compression and AMP draw outweigh the truck pack costs at least for most small companies. for ballpark loudness numbers pleasant volume for a gig can be 100-105db and I shoot for 100ft back from the stage generally. A rock concert or high energy show can have peaks of 110db and an example of a rig for this would be using the example above 4x srx722's a side 2000w per cab of rms amplification and a ton of subs something like 4 srx728s a side or centered splayed with some delay. This give the volume needed with some headroom. I hope this helps! I agree John should try to do a video showing this.

    I bet that you could put the mic receiver in a small 1 or 2u shallow rack, leave an xlr in it, small rack mixer for a bit of eq on the mic, and, power, and 3.5mm audio. I bet that would still fit on the shelf. Also, it would preserve the shure power supply because those always fray when you have idiots renting it that don't know how to wrap a cable. Shure built them like crap. This would also let you get in and out even faster because all you have to do is run power. The trick would be to find a shallow enough 19" rack case that doesn't get much bigger than the receiver. You could probably even get creative with the antennas like you did in the last video!

    • @DjWooPig
      @DjWooPig  Před 5 lety

      I would love to rack everything up but even a shallow effects ata rack is still a bigger footprint than what I would like to have. Thanks for your input and thoughts, I love comments like yours!

    • @blakewhiting1669
      @blakewhiting1669 Před 5 lety

      @@DjWooPig I bet that with you could probably modify a case or something to do the same kind of thing. Find a case with a small enough foot print, and you could probably stick it on the ground under your stand and use the tray more for papers and a tablet. I have also seen people build cases... it is probably a big pain in the ass to build though.
