This song is not about soldiers who died in combat. This song is about soldiers who died in avalanches. Or froze. As many as 60,000 were devoured by avalanches. To date, there are still several thousand of them in the Alps. They are on permanent watch to this day

Partly combat related as both sides initially started avalanches to bury the other side.

"I cried for spring to come bit here winter remains" basically it's saying the bodies are still buried

Yeah, they are huge history buffs. I'm a history lover myself, went to study it at uni. But there are so many stories in Sabaton Songs which I've never even heard of, this one included. I don't know how much Sabaton you've already heard/ reacted to, but if you want incredible, unknown stories, check out Attack of the Dead Men and Inmate 4859. Both historical events/ stories I'd never heard of but have stuck with me. You should also check out their history youtube channel where they explain the story behind the songs. It's a really good companion video to the songs

White Friday - occurred during the Italian Front of World War I, when an avalanche struck Austro-Hungarian barracks on Mount Marmolada, killing 270 soldiers. Other avalanches the same day struck Italian and other Austro-Hungarian positions, killing hundreds. According to some reports both sides deliberately fired shells into the weakened snowpacks in an attempt to bury the other side.
An accurate estimation of the number of casualties from the White Friday avalanches is not available. Historical documents suggest at least 2,000 victims among the soldiers and a few dozens among civilians

Sabaton know what they write about, they sometimes go visit the sites or at least the countries they make songs about, just to do research, and talk to people who might have insight in the events..
I think this is a solid song, with a solid chorus, a little refreshing with the synth, and relative slow drum pattern, but same time keeping the basic Sabaton sound.. and its a sweet little guitar solo..

I have really been listening to this song a lot over the past couple of days because it is an awesome song. I had also never heard about this battle until I started to listen to this song so much and when I looked into it.
I am guessing that you guy's heard that Tommy Johansson will be leaving Sabaton in the near future because he had some stuff he put on the back burner when he joined Sabaton 7 years ago. I am just glad I got to see him live with Sabaton in September of 2022 when they came through my city while on tour.

well....not the fact they are so much war buffs, but im certain that Joachim's since his mother is czech, had a great grandfather who served on the italian front, just like mine did, and he knew about that and pitched the idea.

They really study their history before writing the songs.

I wouldn't consider this as one of their more impressive songs, but it's a solid one that I have on my playlist.

Thanks for this good reaction to this song. But Sabaton have so many other great songs, I hope you going to react to some more. Bismarck, Steel commanders, no bullets fly and night witches (animated stories) are highly recommended. Also their live performances are on a high level: Carolus Rex, In listed in krig (with captions) and uprising (poland 2012) are really a must see

Deff should watch the Sabaton History eps. on the song - czcams.com/video/UZ4CJ9f-JEc/video.html , i read somewhere that early on a Austro-Hungarian soldier shot a Italian soldier while he was climbing and as he fell took 2 others with him down the cliff , after that the Austro-Hungarian taunted them with shouts of "Welcome to Heaven"

I don't understand the 7/10 when you don't explain what you didn't like? because you obviously didn't like something for that score.
