    The stark difference between Kit and Kira's reaction really shows a person who focuses on the music and who focuses on the meaning

      @aprilvoecks5877 Před 2 lety +93

      You can see the first how 3 lines just wiped out Kit's smile.
      Sabaton does not have boppy, happy, feel-good stories. They have good music, and they have stories that need to be told and remembered. But I can not think of any where everyone "lived happily ever after".

    • @Zabiru-
      @Zabiru- Před 2 lety +32

      I don't think that's the thing at work here necessarily, it's got more to do with Kit's past as an active duty soldier. Sabaton's songs all have deep meaning though, at any rate

    • @aprilvoecks5877
      @aprilvoecks5877 Před 2 lety +54

      @@Zabiru-. After the first line, Kit stops moving with the music, and you can watch all emotion drain out of him. During the third line, he says "oh", showing he understands the loss. Not necessarily this loss, but the loss of life.
      I won't be coming home.
      I won't be going anywhere.
      I will guard this post forever.
      Those 3 lines say the most important thing in this song. Everything else is embellishment. Whether it happened in the White War, or Desert Storm, the pain and loss are there.

      if he has any service he should be VERY emotional if he watches the live version of "en livstid I krig" from Göteborg Sweden , it is a soldiers view of the 30 years war. it deals with the toll on the soldiers, you xan FEEL the pain and fear, another one is "to hell and back " it shows dark side of combat, PTSD, drugs...
      another one is "Christmas truce" in the video there is representation of flashbacks to combat... anx the end they have Christmas truce "lest we forget" carved in a white Cross surrounded by lit candles while a operatic voice sings, also emotional.
      I have stood in church in uniform during memorial for fellow soldier that died during my service, hearing that trumpet will still bring tears to my eyes, he lived in the neighbouring barracks so we had met and talked... frequently

    Kit should react to the En Livstid I Krig, preferably the Gothenburg live performance
    it's about the 30 year war, one of the longest and deadliest wars (at least so far), but the lyrics can be applied to pretty much any soldier really
    there's also an english version of the song (A Lifetime of War), but like their other songs in swedish they're not the same: in swedish, it's basically from the perspective of those that were there, while english is from the perspective of a relative outsider

    White Friday is a reference to the avalanche that killed I think a platoon of soldiers in the alpine mountains in their base camp (I'm not familiar with history but another youtuber was telling the historical aspect of white Friday so I sincerely apologize if I got any info wrong I mean no disrespect to the soldiers that died on that mountain

    In the Alps to this day, several thousand soldiers from the time of World War I still remain at their posts. The bullets didn't kill them. They were killed by cold and snow avalanches.

    For those who doesn't know what white Friday is. On December 13th, 1916 at 5 AM, known as White Friday, a series of avalanches hit both Austro Hungarian and Italian barracks and basically buried them with everyone inside. People reported afterwards that both Austro Hungarian and Italian troops fired artillery at the loose snow on the mountains to cause avalanches on each other's side. The total death toll is unknown, but approximately 2000 soldiers died and a dozen civilians. Many of the bodies were never found. Some are being found nowadays with the ice on the mountains melting more and more due to climate change.

    How to put this? Sorry for any grammar mistakes in advance. I think it is interesting to see how different reactions to songs or stories in general can be. Compare this to the reaction to the Christmas Truce. Regarding the latter, Kira had a "small breakdown", which is perfectly alright. But then, Kit kind of comforted her. Now. with this song, Kit was hit emotionally and Kira had to somewhat comfort him, which is also perfectly understandable, but also shows that differernt songs or rather stories can affect people in different ways.

    • @harley4230
      @harley4230 Před rokem +2

      Your grammar is fine, mate. It does hit them different emotionally. Kira attributed the Christmas Truce to personal loss which is beautiful. I can't help but get emotional to Kit's "oh" as soon as the lyrics start in this one. He immediately understands what this song means, something Kira doesn't and that's okay as he was in the military and she wasn't. That "oh" he gave is very deep though.

      @@harley4230Ok, first of all, thank you for answering. I actually didn'' t know that Kira suffered personal loss when reacting to Christmas Truce. But regarding this particular song and Kit's reaction, it was somewhat burdening for me. Not in the sense that I can understand his feelings. To understand, I would have to have similiar experience, which I do not have. But since I am an active service NCO, it atill gets to me. To be clear, I have served for about 10 years now, but I also haven't been in combat so far (signals battalion). But I hope that I can still kind of understand the brotherly connection Kit feels for his fallen brother in arms.

    You guys really ought to do the Sabaton History video about these songs. It's ok to rock out to Sabaton but clearly Kira had no idea what the song was about and was just focusing on the music itself. That's not on her, but I doubt she'd be smiling if she knew what this song is about.
    As for Kit, if these songs are hitting you that hard then you don't have to do them. You're a grown ass man either way, but I know what it's like to lose Marines too. Semper Fi brother.

    • @samzorn4656
      @samzorn4656 Před 2 lety +1

      To give some context, "White Friday", even though the avalanches occurred on a Wednesday, was the term that signified the days that followed the avalanches.
      It was not only Italian soldiers, but Austro-Hungarians and civilians that were taken by these avalanches.
      By the end of it all, around 2,000 to 10,000 people, primarily soldiers, were killed by the avalanches, making White Friday the worst avalanche related disaster for over half a century until the Huascarán debris avalanche in 1970, which took the lives of over 30,000 people and practically wiped the town of Yungay off both the map and the face of the Earth.
      The song also makes reference to Blood Mountain, which was the the English translation for Col di Sangue, a nickname for Col di Lana. Indy Neidell, who co-hosts the Sabaton History, goes into detail as to how Col di Lana received that nickname.
