Eeeee thank you for this video! ❤ I am a Chinese Malaysian but cantonese 人 but I don’t really know how to speak, so I have been learning diligently by practicing with my father and watching a lot of Stephen Chow’s movies (they are so good as expected) I learnt a lot but sometimes I pronounced it wrongly cause it may sound a bit similar to mandarin, this video helped a lot thank you 💛💛✨🫶🏻

    • @CantoneseClass101

      Good question!
di1 has 2 main usages: first, as "some; those" under the possessive pronoun umbrella. Eg. ngo5 di1 tau4 faat3 "my hair"; ngo5 di1 gau2 "my dogs"
      Second, as "a few; a little bit". Eg. jau5 di1 gui6 "a bit tired"; jau5 di1 man6 tai4 "a few problems."

I'm having difficulty deciding if I want to get a membership to this site. There's a whole lot of content with video, cards, dictionary and the 2000 common words etc, but there seems to be alot of on going discussion on forums online in regards to how the characters are presented on this site. Quite a few threads online have mentioned something along the lines of the characters taught here aren't correct because they're are using Mandarin characters with Cantonese pronunciation. And also some other issues with the translation. I want to really learn Cantonese fully, characters and all. Can somebody please clarify if joining this site will help me reach my goals or if these issues are actually true and would possibly hinder my learning. Thanks in advance, peace.

Thank you for the inquiry and we understand your concerns. On the site, if you look closely in the series description, we have some series teaching in written form (which looks similar to Mandarin but actually it's the standard Chinese writing system used in Hong Kong), and some series teaching in spoken form (the colloquial, daily-use conversation). Most of them are in spoken form, especially at the lower levels. Depending on the learner's purpose, we suggest different series, hence both forms are available on the site. :) Feel free to ask if you have any other questions, we're here to help :)
