Even though most of what Trump says is nonsense, he does have a point in the NATO contribution argument. European NATO members need to start seriously rising their defense budgets. The Europe has to be able to stand for itself, we need to decrease our over-reliance on the United States. That would mean that the future of NATO wouldn't be as reliant on the domestic politics of the US.

Bit of a stretch to claim 79 years of peace in the civilised world is equivalent to death and war. NATO and US being the iron fist secured this and it has been very good for business indeed. Most of the death and war that US experienced was all US's own projects (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan).

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

Their interests retract as they decline, as we can see they are more self and America continent focused. Would you still call MBS Saudi and UAE US allies? I think they are more China allies and Russian allies today. US understands that, they don't have enough butter to cover that big bread they used to have, so they will take less bread ... It's unpleasant but acceptable.
The real victims on this course are the ones counting on US military and economic support.
