Filthy little liars. But this is what I love about Frankenstein’s monster. He has all the innocence of a child and only does bad things when these stupid villagers provoke him.

The Monster is a big kid himself.

The Monster is basically portrayed as a gentle child; all he wants to do throughout most of the movie is hang out with the little girl and play with her ball. It's only when he's under the influence of Ygor's malevolent horn-playing that he does anything violent or antisocial (or by accident, like burning down the little girl's house). And she can sense that he's not violent or evil and wants to "play" with him, too.

Love this movie. Lon Chaney Jr was an amazing actor. He could do it all. In addition to being a great as The Wolfman, Dracula, & The Mummy, He was great as Frankenstein's Monster. A worthy successor to Boris Karloff.
Bela Lugosi is great in this film as well - particularly in the finale where he dubbed The Monster's lines of dialogue. Pretty intimidating. Lugosi demonstrated what a powerful resounding voice he had.

Great scene. Typical BS of an ignorant society.
This was a Universal horror film that had what could be called excellent acting. Bela Lugosi also was quite good.
But what am I saying? Lon Chaney, Bela, these were seasoned reliable actors who knew what they were doing. Karloff in the original Frankenstein created a memorable performance we still watch today. They've made many Frankenstein remakes through the decades but it's the original that is still the classic (as well as Dracula). I respect these actors, always have -- they may have been in B-films but they were A+ actors.
Chaney proved his worth in some major films too -- Of Mice & Men, High Noon, The Defiant Ones -- always reliable & good.

Where did they film this? It looks too elaborate to be a movie set: did they actually find some German or Austrian town to film it in?
