This video is an instant yogs classic
It's got everything:
Tom
And even Ben
Even Duncan is back
Lewis even flew in from Japan to attend!
I didn't even think of that!
true
And the camera work ;P
I love that 90% of the commentary is Ben and Tom making references and banter with each other, while Lewis is just entranced by the mech mayhem
Lewis can never complain about Daf's spectating again.
Tbf that is mostly Pflax
Why is everyone batching about Lewis's camera control? He had Tom and Ben to help tell him what to look at, it's not all on Lewlew.
@@SwordTune Atleast Ben and Tom knew who they were looking at.
@@jekanyika That part isnt solely on lewis. Since the spectate mode was recently released, it does have some missing elements. Since there is no color identification on the spectator (yet), its understandable why you can get confused in a 2v2.
Casual viewers will def take a few moments before they realize who is who. A game that lets you have difficulty in knowing who is who is def not on the viewer's side, but on the game
This spectator system is really bare bones. Dota 2 like most valve games has a fantastic spectator mode, since they anticipated the professional scene. Do agree they could calm down a bit, but that just seems to be the influence of Dota anyways.
Lewis just listening to Tom saying "Can we see Gee's army" and he forgot he was controlling the camera. I bet Daff enjoyed that moment a lot.
more mechabellum tournaments with ben and tom commentating? tho i think 1v1 might be better? maybe during jingle jam?
2v2 is fine, but teams need balanced, ped was basically playing 1v2 against a strong duncan and ravs, I don't expect them to balance teams at all if they do more so 1v1 would be better
@@anthonyschlessman1848 well for me its with 2v2 we only ever saw half the battle field. So unless they get a better lay over that shows the whole fight so we can see everything I feel like 1v1 is better so people dont feel like they are only seeing half the action
2v2 seems impossible to effectively spectate, the battles are hectic enough in 1v1
@@nyarlathotep1223 there might be a layout they can do that lets them see/show everything at one i just have no idea how to do it or if it can even be done?
There should be a spectating mode with an gods eye overhead view like in planetary annihilation titans with the units displayed as icons.
they really gotta add player colors/team colors
I think just indicators over their heads which could be various shapes for colourblind users (in addition to custom colours).
Also, I'd totally pay $3-5 to be able to use my own custom "in-zone paint job" (as long as I could pay through Steam-no V-buck, please 😑)
@@RubelliteFae or that could be base feature and not something you have to pay for
@@Qniz Could be, I'm just saying that I'd be willing to pay a bit to upload a bmp instead of just having 10-20 options to choose from.
Their Early Access blurb says it will be released in 12 months for free (and so EA supporters will get exclusive loot upon release, whatever the loot ends up being). 20 years ago I would have though many games would allow you to load in custom assets, but there's surprisingly few outside of modding.
I think i would just prefer 1v1's
@@RubelliteFae multiplayer games started preventing custom-assets stuff because it very quickly becomes people uploading offensive/illegal stuff faster than the company can moderate
this stream is pretty much just lewis being confused by who is who while tom and ben watch his head spin and try to focus on the action a certified yogs classic
I've missed the Tome, Ben and Lewis Videos so much. With the restructure of ben and lewis save the world (into ben saves the world) I'm extra glad to see some mech/scifi strategy games coming back. Please do more!
Tome is my favourite yog.
*Napalm strike about to wipe out a whole flank and turn the tide of battle*
"Let's watch two forces protected by shields plink away at each other so we can miss the whole thing." - Lewis
If you're coming here from the Main channel, You'll wanna start at around 34:00.
Legend
I loved this and I bet with a proper spectator mode it could be even better. Stuff like player names on starting areas/units, player/team colours and maybe even something like a mini-map for these big games where there's a lot going on. Will love seeing this game developed further, so far my favourite early-access game of this year
Loved watching them play this game. Lot of fun with all the commentary. I laughed so hard at some of their voices for the tanks
Big fan of this - have been enjoying watching mechabellum lately. Also, Tom, Ben, AND Lewis? Excellent team.
Cool game! Would love to see a tournament when people have had more time to learn.
Lewis getting so mad at the lack of AA is amazing
im loving this feels like old school robot wars :P great to see my favorites talk about smashy robots for 3 hours
I just bought this because of your streams. Its freaking amazing so far. We'll see how it will hold up in the long run
This was great, can't wait to see Bouphe and Lydia redeem themselves next time!
Really hope we get more of this game going forward. It's perfect for Jingle Jam.
Also best mech is Metal Gear Rex.
Ben and Tom would be great casting this!
Idk how I feel about the sandwich layout, I think the allies next to each other seems a more balanced map
Agreed. Seems like, if one of the bread teams wins faster it throws them in to the second opponents backside quicker. Where as, if one of the meat teams wins faster they don’t get the same benefit.
Maybe do a sandwich and then switch the ones inside and end game 3 with a side by side.
finally started to understand at the end, finale was good
This is really good, i hope to see some more in the future. Nice commentary, this is some Tom and Ben right in their elements ! Lewis was also here lol !
Also i hope by then player identification will be figured by the devs, because this game has a real potential with 2v2's but it's getting quite hard to distinguish wich team is wich.
Overall good fun thanks guys
Great tournament. Love how Lewis completely zones out from commentating and operating the camera on more than one occasion. Clearly that is Ben work.
Dont think the game devs would ever see this. But if this game gets played enough it would be nice for the spectators to see a list of what they bought that turn.
@TheCoolCucumber well apparently they just made that spectator mode like a day before so it hasn't been fleshed out very much.
starcraft wen through this phase where they couldnt properly balance AA/Air units proliferation so everyone just whored them out, this game is doing that right off the bat lol
That level3 melting point was the most satisfying thing to watch since punch-bot
They should do this again, but 1v1's. We missed a lot of the action, because they couldnt be everywhere at once. Focusing on one battlefield probably makes for an easier viewing experience.
next torny maybe either consider going split screen or 1V1 until they inplement overlay, it was confusing to watch who's who, the game is great that any moment it will flip, you be surprise how tiny things like position and "buying things that shoot up" (looking at you Gee) can drastically alter the outcome of each round, best auto-batter out there and it's just in alpha
Loved this! Great games, great commentators, and an amazing showcase of how much fun the game can be :)
The finals were actually awesome to watch, so close!
Who needs a tutorial when I can just listen to this. I’m learning so many uses for my troops. Love this game already, just hope they implement a fast forward option so we don’t need to wait forever for that single wasp destroy all of the ground only guys.
Just don't listen to Lewis and you'll do great
Fast forward pleeeease lol
Lewis controlling the camera is a fucking nightmare lol
This was such a great tournament! More of these please :D
Going to buy the game after this, its nicely priced 12 euros with a discount, that is a very reasonable price!
Its really cool but the only bad thing isn't the games fault its that its impossible to see what is happening on both boards at the same time. The side by side map is better and less confusing but I think from a Spectating point of view you have to do 1v1 not only for the viewer but also the person controlling the Spectator camera.
1:47:35 starts an amazing narration of most of these rounds.
That was EXCELLENT, really hoping to see more in the future!
my personal fave mech is the Mad Dog from Battletech which is akin to the Catapult in that they both are long range machines
Did anyone else notice Ben and Tom shaking their heads and looking confused every time lewis tried to include them in his confusion??
this game is a lot like toms horse series
Bought the game after watching the stream; it's so fun!
Loved the tournament! Congrats Duncan and Ravs!
not usually a fan of long videos due to ADHD but ive loved watching this watched the first 2 hours in one and only stopped as i had to do something
That was awesome. Loved the stream. Would love to see more.
Looks interesting for sure
This was fabulous!
Love how the higher levels teams both lost first
That's because 3 of the 4 higher level people are actually really bad at games
First 30's of this is a full endorsement of battletech mercenaries on kickstarter, what a time to be alive.
Great content :) but please take camera control away from Lewis. Having someone in control of the camera who was losing track of where the teams were was difficult to watch at times.
I do feel that one on one tournaments would be better though as having two fights going on at all times always feels like we're missing something.
You should have mentioned that it's still Early access.
Please more of this!!
This is always the first video that plays if I have auto play on… I love it
I'm about an hour and half in and I'm thinking.... "Man... These players treat the idea of using mustangs as a personal insult".
The games have largely been decided by dead-set refusal to use anti air.
the most enjoyable yogscast video since israphel
Absolutely love this type of content
this was a genuinely really fun video
1v1 seems like it would be much better for spectators unless the devs can add a mode where all players on the same team share the same field.
It is not only for spectators but to play as well, 2v2 still plays the same as 1v1 and that is just not interesting enough. I would love to see two players on one field but both with less resources, and if they add more factions it opens up different combinations. Another thing I would love to see better fields, bigger with no mans lands so units are not just slamming into each other but you could position faster units on the side to flank regularly instead of having this shit flanking zone.
Some amazing logical plays here. Getting beaten by air units….just add more ground units. That should do the truck.
More of this please
this game is actually sick
This reminds me a lot of Legion TD 2, I like it!
The outer VS inner map feels so imbalance, the outer team has such an insane advantage if they ever get ahead.
Only advantage for the inner team is flank defense.
I like it, but if they did it for the first two rounds, switching who is inside and then end game 3 with a side by side. Maybe there could be a stacked map where it's the sandwich, but each side is stacked, so the second player comes in as another wave.
yep it is unbalanced..
Lewis used to be so sharp. Someone get him a Steak.
Loved this, but maybe next time give Ben the mouse Lewis, as he knew who was who.
Also i know why Lydia didnt do too well, her stream sniping + Lewis' spectating will have gave her motion sickness that no special glasses could counter.
All the units staying at level 1 is painful
Lets put "passion commentary" with Lewis and someone else, like an audience, and lets put pro commentary Tom and Ben: so, do more of this!
Lewis: "You wanna join the game, Ben?"
Also Lewis: "Don't mess with my stuff."
Saw this on NL's channel and loved it! Seems to be a lot of yogs/NL overlap these days- was surprised seeing Ravs on his channel, obviously sips is a long time pal of his- get NL on live somehow and I'll be pogged out of my gourd
I love the overlap! I can't remember when it started but I know ravs used to play a lot with malf on Sips' minecraft server and by extension there was a lot of nl and sips in the mix. Love those lads, wish they'd do more together but obviously time zones and very different schedules.
This was fantastic, and I very much enjoyed it and hope to see more. But I hope more care is given for the use of sandwich maps.
It is absolutely a disadvantage to be in the centre, or "the meat". Bread players, whilst separated, never have to worry about being flanked, and always advance forwards rather than having to turn around, and can easily backdoor an opponent they've just debuffed by destroying their unprotected buildings.
This is great as a catchup mechanic for the team that loses the first round, to give them a chance to push back for a 2-1 win. Yet, on the last matchup between Team Du'vs and Team Pe'sy, Ped and Nilesy were immediately put on the backfoot by being placed in the middle on round 1 against team Du'vs.
It's all for fun obviously so it's not a big deal, but more balanced tournaments are always more interesting to watch. And also to play in for those involved.
I don’t really know what’s going on. I just enjoy the podcast that comes with it.
definitely need more of this
My favoured mech in general: VF-1J, in Battletech (supprise! supprise!) Phoenix Hawk LAM
5:38 The Yogscast guarantee! If it was too professional I probably wouldn't be watching.
Seems like a huge disadvantage to be the team in the middle of the vertical map layout. If you win your side slightly slower than your teammate loses on the other side, your base gets destroyed right as your forces turn around to meet the remnants of the enemies other army and you just die
"These are really solid, these balls." - Lewis, 2023

To continue the question from the beginning of the video what's everyone's favorite mech? Mine is the Glitter boy from Rifts.
Lewis holding up his end of the bargain doubling down as a bad presenter and interrupting the wonderful banter between tom and ben talking about how its impossible to punch a plane. lol never change guys
More please 🙏 😁
1:22:35 **shudder**
Lewis getting so butthurt over Gee's bad choices was hilarious
This is actually somehow exciting!
Great video as Always.
2:27:50 the hero arrives
YOGS TOURNAMENT LETS GOOOO
Don't know how the game works, but what was stopping Gee from building AA units?
brain power, as far as i can remember she wasn't good at games, worse than ben ttt skills, but applied to all games
@Anthony Schlessman But she was fighting flying units, and she can clearly see that her army isn't winning, right? No one can be that bad.
I like the Highlander battlemech myself. Trying very hard not to pick a Clan mech.
Thunderbolt lover here.
The least prepared team won 😂
Gee was such dead weight, holy shit 🤣
nilsey was definitely worse, he only turned the tide of that one match by sheer luck
Anybody remember zoids. Liger zero was my favorite ❤ ah having a nostalgia moment when they started talking about there favorite mech's.
so good
Lewis could not have done worse with the spectating 😅
Good idea, bad excecution. Should be one on one. Camera work is annoying to follow and some "bugs" with flanks on team play
More mechabellum please! Look at the views!
Fun times
Who the hell is ordinary Harry? 😵💫
MORE!
OMG I am first? I love it when they do Tournaments! Tom, Ben and Lewis!? Truly we are blessed today
Rock, paper, scissors with rock scissors… Guess what the counter pick should be?
Yup, rock gets you a draw, which is the best you can get!
Paper is cut by rock scissors, so a loss.
Scissors are blunted by rock scissors, so a loss.
Rock is impervious to rock scissors, but cannot damage back.
Rock always wins!
1:34:35
Ah yes, single edged swords like bread knives, or not swords at all!
Just, y'know, ignore sabres, falchions, daos, falxes, messers, scimitars, katanas, tachis, khopeshes...
I am a mech and I’m drilling a hole
Drilly drilly hole
