Holy moly this is fantastic!! I disassembled the complete unit and checked all connections and could not find the issue. I look up the problem on youtube and BAM this video showed up. Never, ever would i have suspected the problem to be in that small box. Thank u very much sir!!
Dude thanks to your video I recently repaired a Deq-636 an old school DSP that is DIN specific. turned out the soders were old and needing re-sodering. Got it working again! Great video man
Thank you for that, looks like an easy fix, I have the KEH-P8200RDS (Failed Backlight), KEH-P9200RDS (Just failed after install) and the DEQ-9200 (Still Working), so will get to work on those, I did buy the replacement brighter Fluorescent Displays to replaced the old original ones from an ebay seller. Kev, I have a similar model DEX P-78. My problem is that the backlighting works but is so dim it's only visible at night. Also, the external inverter buzzes. Any idea what might cause this?

Say, is it really to fix? Or the screen only change? The analyzer tracks must run on the disk player, and the screen is silent. The discs play normally, the buttons glow, the screen does not work.

Hi Kev I have a Sony 4 channel one of the older Pro Audio AP a4200 G 50 x 4. So this is the deal years ago I bought it brand new installed it properly used it for a couple months and it went off on safety this unit has a built-in fan! Just to let you know! I paid a decent amount of money for it back then so I unhooked it and shook it and I could hear something inside very small like a resistor rattling around inside anyway! I was upset and wanted to send it back so I put it back in the original box and got another amp from a friend and long story short it ended up in my attic for years. It always crossed my mind to want to get it repaired! Like I said it's got no time on it it's like brand new! Do you do outside work? Is it something I could possibly send to you to have it repaired correctly I really would love to have it back so I can use it on my highs on my latest stereo system then I'm putting in my Suburban I've got a lot of high-end gear pretty high-end gear to install and I would really love to be able to have this amp as one of my highs amps again. Please if you could get back to me and let me know if you could help me with this issue I'm very good with wiring and pretty handy with a soldering gun. I'm a CB and a ham radio operator so I've always been involved with electronics so it's not foreign stuff to me LOL it would be wonderful if I could get a response from you to help me with this situation thank you very much. Hello!!I recently got a Pioneer KEH-P8600R but the backlight of my screen is very dim.Tried another screen and it wasnt that dim.Is there a remedy in order to restore its brightness?
Unfortunately, by this time a lot of these units have suffered burnout of the EL strip inside the face. Your only option there is to attempt to make a new EL panel with one of the EL panel kits available out there. I've got a Sony XR-C900 with a bad EL panel in it's face. I know it's the EL panel because I swapped it on one of my other C900's and I get the same result. If I Iook closely I can see the dot matrix display working. One of these days I'll try one of those kits myself. Make sure the kit is one that allows you to cut down the size of the panel, as they are typically much bigger than you need.
No but that should be something easy to find where it is not getting power. Check all solder connections. Sony is notorious for having them. Check around the high heat areas like regulators and power transistors. You should be able to trace power from connector and see where it stops in the circuits.
Google. That is the only source most people have. You might be able to find specific hard to find ones in forums pertaining to the repair of said device.
Some of those are EL backlit displays, they weren't fluorescent but LCD with EL pad instead of LED, and they did also make OEL displays on some models also, it's just rare to see one, they only made them for a while

@@BLAZEPSI The display is backlit with an EL panel, there is a seller on Ebay that has replacements. It will require complete disassembly of the face including desoldering the metal housing that covers the EL panel. If you are not proficient with a soldering iron, the job should be left to a competent electronics tech.

As i remember from my Keh-P5400 in the 90's, you have to manually select that function from the menu. When the memory erases, you have to do it again.

I do the same thing on my front load washing machine board ang it came back to life the problem is wash cycle stops after few minutes

It is not flourescent, it is an Electroluminescent Panel (EL). It requires an AC source, which is the metal box--it is an inverter.
Shame the green colour can’t turn orange
Gosh! That's kind of shady, really. Cannot think of a reason they couldn't make that part of the circuitry FIT INSIDE THE FREAKIN' CHASSIS.
I don't think It had to do with space. I think that they made it external to keep HF noise out of the deck from the inverter.

Definitely an EL display, A flourescent display doesn't require high voltage AC, it would have no need for the inverter.
