I just want to correct you: Sonic Frontiers already had that momentum you talked about when it released. It just was not used in the game that much, mostly just launching off rails and platforms when boosting. The new platforming challenges however do use it kinda, they make you boost off the platforms to reach other platforms, which is a neat touch.
9:27 They shouldn’t make a “Sonic Fromtiers 2” they should make a new game using and improving upon the mechanics and concepts of this game, they don’t have to directly make a sequel if this story has found its conclusion, that will hold back potential choices for what their next open world will look like
When those first showcases released I wanted to just completely drop all interest in the game, but I held out hope that it was just bad marketing. Once the better marketing started, I guessed that it would be a 7/10 Once I started playing, I had it as 8/10, but the second half dropped that to 6/10. Honestly, the sonic fan in me wanted to say 7/10, but the game developer in me won out. After my first playthrough, I never touched it without mods. But when Update 2 came out, I could finally play without mods again! The biggest issue is the story, which Update 3 will seemingly fix. As you can tell, my respect for fellow game developers makes me kinda stubborn with rankings, but Sonic Frontiers could honestly end as a 9/10 in my eyes. I'm finally hopefully for Sonic's future! And great video!
I remember when they released the first gameplay reveal and it looked slow and everyone hated it but then they more or less released the same trailer but slightly faster and slightly more stuff and people just lost their shit. It was hilarious
One thing I've always wanted to do that you still can't do is.. Once you've finished the game like, you should have a mode whereby you can transform into super sonic at any given time like in the old mega drive games sonic 1,2,3 when you got all the emeralds you could transform as soon as you got 50 rings or whatever, that was the coolest shit man.
My greatest criticism of Update 2 is how you unlock it's Spin-Dash. Honestly felt like they didn't have any real faith people would be interested in playing the Action Chain Challenges, so they dangled a well requested feature like a pair of shiny keys in front of us, and basically hinders it's overall usefulness to VERY late game/post game cleanup. I love it, don't get it twisted, but they really should've put it behind the Skill Tree, or really, just let us have it from the get go. And even with Update 2, I'd hesitate to say the game is "Redeemed" it's certainly miles better than what it was in 2022, but we still have stuff like the final act basically taking a huge faceplant in terms of story and aesthetics. The rumor mill does imply Update 3 will directly address these concerns, and hopefully that will be true, but still can't really say the game is redeemed in good faith just yet
My bigger problem with the Spin Dash is that you have to go through the long unlock process *every time* you start a playthrough instead of being a one-time unlock like the Cyber Space Power Boost. And if you use NG+ to get it from the start, your stats also transfer over, trivializing everything else in the game. I wouldn’t mind the process considering how OP it is, but it’s so stupid that it’s not a global unlock, especially since it’s already available in Arcade Mode.
@@SilverSpireZ It absolutely does need to be a proper toggle or one time unlock, especially in a game that promotes freedom to play how you want, it still really feels like they wanted to give you an artificial reason to play this new content
I don't think the game was all that bad at launch, even now it's still got problems. But I still use default controls and I think the game has decent navigation, but I do appreciate getting new things to do. But some flaws will probably always be there (combat, automation, later islands being frustrating to navigate)
I disliked the lack of momentum, however once I saw they addressed that on update 2, I brought the game. This caught out of guard, they actually did it.
I haven't played any of the updates yet. I don't think it's worth playing little by little .... I'm waiting until all 3 updates come out and I can play a massive chunk of DLC at 1 time.
I've heard many people say that sonic frontiers "is one of the worst games they've ever played" (most notably, Jonny RaZeR) to wich I say, what games are you playing? this game is the most 7.5/10 game ever, which means it's good, it's fun, but certainly not perfect.
Even Sonic Team agrees that they were rushed for the ending...here's hoping for more manpower and a more flexible deadline for Sonic's next 3D adventure!
First sonic game I wanted to play since generations I love sonic he’s literally my first video game ever and frontiers was amazing like it wasn’t perfect but it ain’t suppose to be perfect people will trash this game and not even make it out the first world like I get it not everyone is going to like it but sometimes I feel people are hating just soo they can be different from the rest 😂😂
Even without replayability, i think sonic frontiers didnt need a redemption. A 25 or so hour game that is fun overall and has some amazing peaks is enough for me to give it the goty. And I LOVED Elden Ring. As much as I love it, it didnt make me sing loud and hop from my chair out of the sheer amount of fun I had playing frontiers for the first time.
I knew i played some of those levels in Generations before! Wish they'd do more levels that wasn't just, Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, and the oddly City Escape esk cyber levels
Loved this game since the initial reveal. I did not understand the negativity. Just imagining myself running at 1000 mph as Sonic through the revealed level and climbing towers ❤ the popping was bad but I grew up during the psx games so I am ok with objects popping out 😅😂 I finished Sonic Frontiers twice and had so much fun. I hope they remove stupid minigames for the sequel and improve the animations, offer more biomes and better cutscenes. The rest for me was great: music, atmosphere, exploration, moves, fighting…
Even om launch Sonic Frontiers was, to me, a step in the right direction And the updates we got have proved to me that they're trying not to go backwards again
personally im not a big fan of sonic frontiers as of update 2. it was okay . i feeling there's a few things that 's missing with the game but i can't put my finger on it. here's hoping update 3 improves the story and i hope we could get more cyber space stages with the other characters. its not my favorite game but im Happy sonic is back on top
Nintendo is in a league of their own they always focused on family and party games while having an affordable platform to do it on... Sony always focused on Singler player games that tell amazing and jaw dropping stories while Microsoft focused on party and multi-player games in order to push more sales. Nintendo is behind in terms of hardware, but their target audience isn't hardcore gamers like Sony, Microsoft and pc its family and children that want an affordable experience if you want graphics then stick with pc or any of the higher market consoles but if you want an affordable experience from a company that has some of the most memorable characters and games that shaped the gaming industry we know today then Nintendo would be the perfect choice.
After update 2, I went from my initial 25 hours of gameplay to 80!! Momentum, spindash, the option to turn off the cinematic camera and the list goes on. Can’t wait for update 3 :)
I'll give it another shot. By inland 3 I got tired of digital stages. Just skipped the last ones because I had enough whatever to advance and beat the story. Good overall but just that. Updates? I'll wait for 3 and replay I suppose.
I boycotted it on release but now I was thinking wat happened to Sonic Frontiers I literally forgot about the game, ngl I hate the fact that there is no drift or sidesteps that's literally the best part 6:50 Bruh just look at this, I was thinking y didn't u just sidestep but remembered u can't, plus I have the cyberspace levels feel like forces levels
Am i living in a parallel universe? I was there for the launch, i played it again 3 months ago to check if it had improved. The game is rife with pop-in rendering issues, reused assets, and they only used 4 texture packs in the cyberspace levels, the texture packs we already saw in Generations (the city theme is essentially just Unleashed's Skyscraper theme but dulled). Who the f*ck wants to visit Green Hill 9 whole times? This game felt like and still feels like a Unity Engine experiment tacked onto a Generations demo disc.
I really enjoyed Frontiers overall, but it ultimately left me with a sour taste due to the ending being pretty bad. I went back to it a few times until a bit after update 1's release and I haven't touched it since, but the recent update 3 trailer has me interested again as it seems it might be fixing my biggest issue with the game. I didn't even know until earlier today that update 2 added momentum. It really seems like the game is slowly getting every feature people have wanted from it and I've been totally oblivious to it the whole time, and Final Horizon is gonna be the icing on the cake. I think now I'm still gonna wait until update 3 to touch the game again, but I'm gonna replay it in its entirety with all the new changes. I'm interested in how momentum is gonna change the game and what uses the Spin Dash will have since I've always said boost games don't need it, and of course I'm hyped for this new Supreme battle and Super form. Frontiers was already a game I liked, but now it has a second chance to really wow me.
Sonic Frontiers never failed to be redeemed in the first place. Is easily the best sonic game we've gotten since sonic generations and easily one of the top 3 sonic games ever made.
Sure, it seems that way for now, but I have seen a heck of a lot of comments from fans regarding Sonic games and their mixed feelings (mostly dislike) of them for years now, people first say that said Sonic game has "redeemed" itself, but after some time, some of them will "sing a different tune" and realize that game has certain faults that they didn't see at first and afterwards deem it mediocre or lousy at the worst. Just you wait, it always ends up the same at the end of the day, it's things like this that made me apprehensive to play any Sonic game at this point, redemption or no redemption, it's gonna be the same song and dance, period.
Yeah, I meant to add in the 3D part but I must've overlooked it. I'll make sure I don't in the future though! Thanks for calling it out, I don't want to intentionally spread misinformation.
Last time I saw gameplay of a game I was sceptical on was Star Wars Fallen Order. The gameplay shown off for it didn't make it look that interesting, but when it came out, people loved it. Bugs not withstanding (It's been a couple years so i doubt EA has allowed the first one to be patched)
The game is good but it would be a 10 out of 10 is they added choas again. Don't know why they didn't do the choas like adventure battle 2 on the GameCube
Their redemption is great, but I'm still wishing games released WITH all the updates and content there on day 1, not this drip feed stuff. Imagine the reception boost if the Momentum and Playable Characters were implemented in November 2022, and imagine now if the update was actually an entire expansion, being a whole new Ice-themed island with Ice-themed activities and obstacles to stray away from the constant bumper-grindrail-dashpanel dump. I know devs in a corporation aren't given that much leeway, but if they expect me to pay full price, I'm begging them to let Sonic Team really _meditate..._ and I believe they finally listened with the upcoming Sonic Superstars
sonic frontiers could of been was a stand out hit, it was really good on release after up dates amazing but looking at the ideas they had for the game and the footage of the game. What it could of been is really just a bit sad tbh cause they had so many amazing ideas with gameplay and islands
I don't really have a specific plan for how I'm going to make videos on previous games. I'll probably start with whichever ones would make for interesting videos first and go from there.
When talking about what Update 1 added to Sonic Frontiers, I often see people gloss over Power Boost in Cyberspace and Extreme difficulty. The power boost in Cyberspace give a very nice speed boost in most cyberspace stages and Extreme difficulty is the only somewhat challenging difficulty in the game, since you die in one hit and all the S-ranks are around as hard to get as 1-2 normally is. This are big improvements to the game, so to see people just not mention them gets on my nerves a bit. Update 2 is probably better overall, since it gives us momentum and the glorious spindash, but it feels wrong to underrepresent Update 1 like that.
To me the real problem of the game IS THAT IM SURE ALL THE VERSIONS ARE THE SAME !! Which means they are all BASED ON THE SWITCH VERSION ! Explaining the low render distance and all that
My grip is the physics and the graphics quality. The switch kinda ruined game development. Sonic generations and unleashed had better textures. It bothers me how rain in frontiers is reduced to squares.
I love how this game was basically the complete inverse of Forces and 06 in terms of comparing the pre release to the final game

Speaking of spin dash, i hope they let tails, knuckles, and amy do it too. It would suck to let only sonic do it.
Still wish we could play as supersonic in the over world and cyberspace
My intention was the same but I just couldn’t hold the excitement.
Haven’t touched a sonic game since heroes and battle 2… time to cop… can’t wait. Reviews are going nuts.
I wonder if the trend of sonic looking bad only to be good on release will continue. First the sonic movie and now sonic frontiers
We just need an official release of a more complete Green Hill Paradise - Act 2 :D
Interesting! Keep up the good work!
“Longest sonic game up until that point”
Bro forgot about Sonic Unleashed.
this game was so fun when i played, probably my favourite sonic experience in a long time
Never fully completed this game but I'm so glad we have something that's leading 3D sonic in the right direction.
Wait they've added momentum? I think I need to go back and play the game again, momentum was sorely missed the first time round!
Super sonic looks like the original super saiyan depiction from the frieza saga on the thumbnail😅
Frontiers 2 is gonna be godlike
I enjoyed this game at launch and will just wait until all updates are released. I just wish all of this stuff was there from the beginning.
Love the persona ending :)
Even om launch Sonic Frontiers was, to me, a step in the right direction
And the updates we got have proved to me that they're trying not to go backwards again
and there still update 3 to came out... really i cant wait for that moment to happen and see how is the game gonna look at the end.
personally im not a big fan of sonic frontiers as of update 2. it was okay . i feeling there's a few things that 's missing with the game but i can't put my finger on it. here's hoping update 3 improves the story and i hope we could get more cyber space stages with the other characters. its not my favorite game but im Happy sonic is back on top
Sega is like nintendo, 10 years behind on their rivals
Hey what's the level music at 5:25? So familiar!
Windy Valley from Sonic Adventure! czcams.com/video/FvKQLPHWuwU/video.htmlsi=fOxbE7ARvB7KEDnu
Looks like in need to update my file. Haven't played in months
Genuinely a really good, fun game.
great video!
Thanks!
After update 2, I went from my initial 25 hours of gameplay to 80!! Momentum, spindash, the option to turn off the cinematic camera and the list goes on. Can’t wait for update 3 :)
I deserve more subs for all the effort u put into those videos
Frontiers is such an important sonic game.
Idk about ever made tho…
cap
Every sonic game i played has been good
Are you using a jump ball mod? I dont remember the blur behind it
Yeah it's called Alternate Jump Ball + Trail by Weezley on Gamebanana.
I miss when games were for fun and we didn't have all this reviews where everyone is expert and where internet influences the value of any thing ..
I need to know the mods you used. That jump ball and the lack of homing delay looks really cool!
7:17 is this a script error? It's the best selling 3D Sonic game, not the best selling Sonic game
I had no motivation to replay the game up until update 2
Yep Sonic Frontiers was fantastic!
They should have had a smaller zone or green hill as open zone
sonic frontiers could of been was a stand out hit, it was really good on release after up dates amazing but looking at the ideas they had for the game and the footage of the game. What it could of been is really just a bit sad tbh cause they had so many amazing ideas with gameplay and islands
3:48 I dont think the model has changed since unleashed.
Are you going to do videos about main line sonic games first and then spinnoffs
I don't really have a specific plan for how I'm going to make videos on previous games. I'll probably start with whichever ones would make for interesting videos first and go from there.
@@JakeCenZok got it
7:38 that same exact thing happened to me once 😂
Dude the night it came out I played the entire game the whole day and when I finished I was left wanting more, thank God we’re getting more content.
