- The first update to Sonic Frontiers is home to some new modes, toggle options, power ups, and a brand new difficulty that made me chuckle for a brief time. I'm also extremely late on this. Oh well, lol

The day after I finished this script, the Silver update for P-06 went live, so I had to pause everything and prioritize that, hence why this video is so late. But I didn’t want to dive into update 2 until it was out, so here we are 👏

Falling into a pit is treated differently from a death via damage. A damage death puts you at your last autosave, while a fall death puts you at the last spot you were safely on the ground. It's consistent, just two separate types.

@@WolfXGamerful Could be softlock prevention. Without this distinction, if your autosave happened to be fucked up and put you over a pit, you would just respawn at that last autosave and fall in the pit over and over.

I’m glad that SEGA and Sonic Team are committed to keeping this game updated and active, especially with how they usually just drop games after a few patches. No content updates, no big/special DLCs, nothing. It really feels like they care this time and they wanna show that they care. Here’s hoping Update 3 will be great!

Extreme mode reminds me of the problem the "Dante Must Die" difficulty in Devil May Cry games have, where allowing so few mistakes makes players more critical of every enemy and boss' moveset. Attacks that were frustrating in normal mode become even worse in harder difficulties when you can't just tank through attacks anymore.
DMC3 has this problem with some of its enemies like the angels or the ones that shoot projectiles from off-screen. Usually, they're an annoyance, but now that every attack is fatal, it becomes much more stressful and feels even cheaper.
Angels are annoying, even when not playing DMD because they can decide "fuck you" and go through the wall so you just have to sit there and wait for it to come back, meanwhile you can't even hit it and it can hit you
Good. That's what I want from an extreme difficulty mode. If I wanted a more balanced fight, I'd play on a lower difficulty mode.
I'm glad they're adding more stuff, even if it's not huge content drops it's cool to keep the game alive and fresh.

This video has some… interesting timing. But given the additions in the newest update, I’m super happy. Just the toggle for the jump deceleration fixed one of the biggest issues with the game for me, on top of update 1’s QoL features. I’m so glad Sonic Team is taking our feedback in stride, and I genuinely have hope for update 3 to revamp Ouranos and the final bosses like Kishimoto said they would consider.

16:04 the game does this because of your cause of death, if it is by an enemy or hazard, you respawn from the last save but if it is something like falling off an island it would be the last ground you touched before falling into the void.

God, I need an Update 2 video where you rank the Koco Challenges. Alot of them are legitmately interesting and has some of the best and most creative platforming challenges in the entire game.
Can we talk about the fact that they know about the homing boost, and instead of patching it out, they made it to where it tells you you used it? You know, like devs would do for games that they genuinely care about and want to have fun movement even if it's not intentional?

I really liked update 1 when it came out. It game me so many more things to do in a game I really loved! Update 2 does that even more and I’m really exited for 3
One thing I found myself getting lost in was just how much fun I had platforming for the more difficult-to-reach music notes. I'm glad more notes got added in Update 2.

If a song doesn't immediately click, how likely are you to keep playing to appreciate it? If you have the option to turn off a song you don't like, why wouldn't you take it? Options are great and all, until we lose the ability to broaden our taste.

The point that the game feels like it can’t decide what experience the player should have and the player is made to figure it out definitely resonates with me, especially with the update that just launched. The air deceleration are good changes, but them being sliders feels like the game can’t decide on an actual identity for itself and how it should play.

Can't believe they made KH critical lvl 1 mode in a Sonic game
While I like the changes to Cyberspaces time requirements I kinda hate everything else about Extreme mode since it doesn't necessarily make the game all that harder, it just makes it more tedious and a little annoying at points. Ironically enough, not being able to lose power boost is actually more of a detriment since a lot of the more intensive platforming segments are designed around the standard boost so you end up awkwardly having to feather the button to not end up rail switching into an abyss or swerving off a cliff.
Some of the enemies (like Fortress or Strider) are also kind of a slog without being able to just kill them on a one cycle, I think instead of not letting you level up at all, they should've just halved the level cap instead so you can at least have SOME damage but not the insane degree you had in the regular difficulties.
This is how crazy/devoted a Frontiers player I am. Update 1 came out when we were rehearsing for our college play, and because I was playing a smallish character, I was backstage most of the time. I pretty much devoted that time to grinding the challenge modes for the best times, and I had to try REALLY HARD not to throw my Switch when I made a misstep. What has Sonic done to me?
Honestly because of the combat and how it was I was never really inclined to try extreme mode in base game, as I needed a better incentive to play the combat of forces. but now with the insight of how while some are worse, the fact some enemies like tower become an actual fight instead race 2 get hurt. I adore, especially the cyber space time limits.

@@rakanw.6258 well, in the comments, he said that he finished writing the script for this video when the Silver update for Sonic Project 06 dropped, so he put his focus on that, and then finished this one.
I think a better way extreme mode could’ve been handled is to make it so a single hit makes you lose all your rings, and your rings don’t drop on the ground. This makes things a two hit most of the time which helps prevent the feeling of cheap deaths and you can’t just pick your own rings back up over and over.
I keep coming back and rewatching this video just to hear Bickuribox12 acknowledge Sonic and the Secret Rings with the "Let the Speed Mend It" comment. That game was my childhood.

Also, regarding the inability not to take photos in photo mode, a lot of games photo modes do that. Spider-Man ps4 doesn’t have the option to take the picture so if you want to save it, you just need to take a screenshot.
And for the music selection stopping at 53 may be because the songs chosen were stage themes, and the songs with lyrics related to Sonic himself. That’s probably why we don’t have songs like the SA2 version of Believe in Myself, I Am All of Me, Dreams of Absolution, etc. that’s just my theory, though.

I usually really really like your concerns with difficulty with sonic games, going out of your way to provide feedback for deeper systems. However with the battle rush feedback, im sorry but it really dilutes your opinion and overstays its welcome. like halfway through t sounds like a madman yelling gibberish about the ghosts in his walls
Glad to hear you came around on Chaos island. Being locked into a 2d section youve already done is annoying but the 2d segments i like the most actually bc they require quicker reflexes and a better use of all of your moves. Air Dash stomping is fantastic feeling in 2d. Now oc id like no 2d in my 3d sonic. Something we havent gotten since Sonic 06 weirldy enough. And i do like the other islands are mostly 3d. But something about Chaos Island as a different type of island from the others. Idk it works for me as an island. And even Chaos has plenty of 3d tho not nearly as much. chaos is my favorite island. The last island is the biggest but i spend most time in Chaos as i love just running around that island even if the final island has the most content. The DLc has been great so far i think greatly enhancing the game which is already thought was excellent. We'll see what the story dlc is but if its good this will be my favorite 3d sonic game. Right now its kinda tied with SA1. Also we def need more sonic content from you reviews rankings whatever. They are fantastic

for red pillar just turan around and spindash into the air, then go towards it and crosslash. if u don't have spindash you can still do it with boost jumping for silver hammer and toweer and eexcaavator but afaik there isn't any well angled rocks or terrain by red pillar.
Seems silly to have Extreme mode to have a "one-touch = death" rule like in DMC or other such games. I think they should have made it like classic Sonic rings where you lose all of them on being hit and the maximum amount that drops is a fixed amount (up to 20 in most games).
Power Boost in Cyberspace is a pretty decent reward. Extreme Mode is... decidedly not. The game's systems clearly aren't built for it and it's a pretty poor answer to the problem of the game's difficulty. It doesn't make the game HARDER per se, it just makes everything take LONGER. Your parry is still busted, Cross Slash is still busted and so is the Punch>Stomp combo. Not great tbh.
Good thing Update 2's rewards are... decidedly better. 🎉

I assume u were very pleased by the jump deceleration modifier and spindash additions in update 2? Didnt see any videos on it when i imagine it makes the open zone and cyberspace levels much better for you as it did for me

1. Position the camera in order to take the photo.
2. Hide the UI i.e the menu on photo mode
3. If you are playing in ps4, press the SHARE button and on the SHARE menu, press screenshot and then that way you could take the photo.
P. S i dont have switch or xbox and i only have ps4 and that screenshot feature helps me whenever i need a new background or something
