Have to keep reeling the line steadily with no slack (no pumping) otherwise the grouper will get into the rocks. I have fished that area since they put down the reef rubble from the old Skyway and have seen many others fish for grouper. It's hard to land a big fish because you are not dropping straight down, you are way out there at a bad angle which favors the grouper who head for the bottom as soon as they feel the hook. I was having issues later in the day catching pin fish. I killed them between the first and second bathrooms and then down by the last bathroom before you head down to the end

That pier is slowly but surely deteriorating....wouldn't surprise me if dot shuts it down in a few years
