The TRUTH about WORMS in Fish... Catch Clean Cook (Sea Trout)

- Happy new Year! Brook, Ryan and I did a little wade fishing for Sea Trout aka speckled sea trout in the Indian River in Ft. Pierce, Florida. We were using popping corks with live shrimp. Sea trout, like many fish in the Sciaenidae family often contain worms. The most common worm in this fish is the "Poecilancistrium caryophyllum" a type of tapeworm that looks like spaghetti, but is not harmful to humans when ingested both raw and cooked. I show you how to catch, clean and cook this delicious mild flavored fish!

Happy New Year! Thank you for all the support in 2020! Love you guys and can't wait to see what 2021 has in store for us!
Oh wow, eating that raw worm was SAVAGE!! I knew I loved your channel for a reason! Keep up the fantastic videos and great recipes!
I just subscribed to juno Ryan 😁
Happy new year! Four you and brook!
I have been wanting to catch sea trout
@@sithefishingguy5890 where u from
Just an FYI, the “worms” in those warm water spotted sea trout are larval stage tapeworms so yea you can ingest them and it won’t harm you but don’t try this with the “worms” in Codfish or other cold water fish, those are full grown nematodes and can actually attach themselves to your intestine in some cases
shivers
That's interesting! Is the fish still edible or good to eat if you remove the worms from the cold water fish?
@@JS-cr5fn it's completely edible, you can even eat the fish cooked with the worms still in it bc cooking will kill the worms but most people pull them out. You just don't want to ingest them when the fish is raw and they're still alive
Used to work in a fish house in Florida and we got Sole fillets and cod fillets fresh and there is live worms in it
Even in Norway, (where I'm at) there are most commonly worms in both the intestines, liver, and flesh (fillet) of the Cod (and most other species). This is common, research has also shown, that if there are a high amount of chemicals in the fish (lead and other chemicals from human processes) the worms and parasites can NOT survive. In sum, worms in the fish is actually a good sign, the fish meat is relatively clean from chemicals. We put the fillet in the fridge for 24 hours, and many times the worms will crawl out. (Disgusting yes) but easy to pick out. Just cook the fish well, and all is good. Happy fishing.
“Put your money where your mouth is” HUGE HUGE RESPECTS! Not every CZcams fishermen are willing to do that!
Fr
More like put a worm where your mouth is. 😂
In Minnesota some of our fish have tapeworms. No way would I eat that raw.
Two types of parasitic worms can infect humans:
1. Anisakiasis is caused by ingesting the larvae of several types of roundworm which are found in saltwater fish such as cod, plaice, halibut, rockfish, herring, Pollock, sea bass and flounder.
2. Tapeworm infections occur after ingesting the larvae of diphyllobothrium which is found in freshwater fish such as pike, perch and anadromous (fresh-saltwater) fish such as salmon....trout are anadromous same as salmon.
Was gonna say the same. Mad respect.
Victor you're indirectly connected to a shark. You are truly a Landshark. You consistently give other CZcamsrs a platform on your channel. Constant good positive energy. God is blessing you and your family.
When did victor get so jacked doe 😂
Vic is on that Sauce lol
When did Jack get so victored doe🤔
"Brooke is not getting any kisses tonight"...hahaha now that was funny...!! And great info about the Worms...The dish also looks amazing...!!!
What even more amazing about this vid is that Vic has now made indirect contact with a shark! Hahahahha
😂😂😅
Vic I have to credit you brother. As quite an experienced fisherman I learn a lot from your channel. You truly have an amazing educational and entertaining channel and personality. You never cease to teach me something new
Love sea trout! Funny at my age how times have changed. I remember shuffling in the Indian River off Titusville in cutoffs and Converse wadin tennies. Here you are in waders and stuff. But I remember limiting out on trout, and netting crabs and shrimp at the same time. Glad to see Florida's fish stocks being managed. We need the trout to be successful like the redfish were. Happy New Year kids! May you continue to grow and prosper.
UNBELIEVABLE!!! NO MORE picking worms out of my fillets! Thx for the awesome worm education. Your trout and salad presentation looks legit!
I have watched a ton of your videos and I really like how much respect you have for the fishing environment. Very conscious of the harvest and very educated about the different species. I also have been paying attention to the how to cook portion of the channel. Excellent content here!
The thing I like about the Florida fishing community: AUTHENTICITY.......!!!!!!!!!! Well done guys.........greetings from South Africa.....!
Years ago I worked on a Party Boat out of Long Island NY. I cleaned/fileted dozens of fish everyday. My compliments to you on your fish filleting skills. Nice job!
Highest quality content I've seen on your channel thus far. Good work.
video was awesome! the life cycle of the worm from the shark all the way to the trout then to Victor and ultimately to Brook lololol.... when you ate that worm i jumped myself! pretty informative and epic! nice job
Great video. Great fishing.
Great video! Very educational. Cornmeal, salt, and hot grease works great for speckled trout! And cheese grits.
Hey guys I posted this recipe on Kelly young channel, but when I saw you guys cooking trout I had to copy and paste it for you guys. Trout is actually the fish my mom and mom mom made this recipe with so had to share with you guys. By the way we also get worms in our trout and we fish out of crystal river. Were allowed 5 per day and 1 over 19in. Hope you guys like the recipe.
Heres how we do ours and its incredible. Take foil and line the inside of a cookie sheet as this makes clean cup a snap. Next place a cookie cooling rack inside cookie sheet. This allows all the oil to drip off the fish and leave you a nice golden brown topping.
For the most part we use 3 types of fish when doing this method and they are Trout, Red fish and Mangrove snapper. Place your fish on the rack and cover the tops and sides of fish with Kraft mayo. The amount of mayo you used on that trigger fish was about the same as we use. Also please do not get light mayo. The bad oils are all going to cook off and be left in the foil in side the cookie sheet.
You can season the fish several different ways but we usually go S&P, Season salt , Cajun seasoning and Paprika. Recently I got turned on to a seasoning by Badia called Complete Seasoning and they sell it at Publix, and let me tell you its killer. Ill add lemon pepper and Lowry's garlic salt with Badia and thats been the new go to for the past few dinners using this method.
Turn the oven on broil and place on top rack, should be just a few inches from the broiler. If the fillets are pretty thick drop it down one rack. Broil for 10-12 min. It should start to get Gold brown to kind of a blackened looking color. One thing for sure is the smell in the house will be killer. Hope you guys will give it a try because its one of the best ways to eat those types of fish.
Lmao I love watching you guys 😂😂😂!!! I’m almost double your age and love watching you kids have a blast!!!
More info about different fish and their other variants of worms! You've earned my like!
You killed it on that salad my friend! I have been in the hunting and fishing businesses 30-years and we are moving to Port Charlotte/Englewood area in September. We are heavy into offshore big game fishing and hunting. Hope to meet you guys one day. It’s been fun watching you two grow your channels. Cheers!
Luv watching good people Fish and actually show how you can learn something new every day. Really appreciate you guys as CZcamsrs. We really can learn something new every day with you guys. support everything you guys teach.. and willing to teach other.. once again guys thank you so much🙏🏾
It’s so funny how you hold your other hand when you’re adding spice to the fish filets lol.
Agreed on the issue of meat loss during cleaning. Tough to watch when stuck in the midwest and don't have access to that kind on bounty. Happy New Years and always great vids....
Trout fishing is my absolute favorite inshore fishing... cuz once you get on em you can pretty much catch as many as you want. Fun as hell
Great video as usual. Especially when you take the time to explain things like worms to know nothings like myself.
Your culinary skills are really shinning these days. You've been doing your homework and it shows. Loved the worm thing, bravo. Great to see all of you again. I'm pretty sure I know that spot.
Happy New and Healthy Year to you Vic and Brook. May this year bring you all many catches and cook; that allow us to continue learning from your adventures! 🎣
Thanks for the Great info on the worm front and also for a wonderful looking pomegranate fish dish!
A stringer tip I discovered years ago... run the stringer needle through the top front section of the eye socket and straight across to the other eye. It is much stronger (sometimes trout will rip their jaw and get off). Not only that, surprisingly, they stay alive better & therefore more fresh. With the line through their gills and mouth they have trouble breathing. I also hook bait mullet in this fashion & they last much much longer.
Great video man, people dont understand pretty much all fish have worms. I cant wait to watch your video specifically about fish worms!
Great video. The "salad" looked AWESOME. Still NEVER going to eat a raw worm! lol
New subscriber, I like the channel and content, myself having worked in high end kitchens for over a decade props to you on the plating most people don't comprehend how important presentation is when they cook, and I like that you went into scientific detail about the fish and the worms. Personally over the years I've killed enough fish that I would be afraid to set foot in saltwater, especially deep enough to need waiters cos I know they've got it in for me, I would be afraid there would be a shark just sitting there waiting for me to set foot in the water to exact revenge, lol I know irrational fear.
I love your channel.. Brooke is a lucky lady to have such a great cook .. Victor you're awesome
Great video. Happy New Year. Always wondered and worried about worms in Amberjack. Very interesting!!!
I love that you used the word 'supremed'! LOL! Much success to you and Brook in 2021!
This was SUPER educational. Loving the videos. Keep them coming!
Great video. Enjoy them all and the way the food comes out. Keep making these videos man.
Happy birthday Victor. Good. show. Reminds me of when I was a kid on the St. Johns River. We didn’t have waders. Peace and love from tinytown Colorado.
I love your videos vic...definitely at the filet table...very educational...obviously the cooking is the best.. but definitely when u teach ..thank you sir💪🏽

Hey victor I love all your videos sending prayers for Brooke and your family I would love to see a flounder catch clean cook if possible😄
500K subs! Congrats. Getting up there with DMFD. You guys rock.
Love the channel. Always a humbleing experience when watching. And Thanks for the education. I was always hesitant to eat fish from the back lake, because of the worms. so I Just fry them. Fried worms won't hurt🤣
Yeaaa I'd definitely stay away from any freshwater worms. Very different than the saltwater ones hes showing here. You also shouldn't eat cold water worms from up North..
you dropped this video on my bday, you have mad chef skills
Nice detail about the worms. I must have eaten those dozens of times over the years. And I lived! Thanks
Had a great day catching specks myself the other day, we didn't limit out because our limit here is 15 per person, but we still had a nice mess of them for a fish fry...worm free too.
Happy new year btw. My message probably isn’t up there with Brook’s dad but I’d just like to say I’d love your videos Vic and Brook. I mostly enjoy the cleaning of the fish and learning soo much about the fish. I’d want my first fishing experience to be with you guys. You both are great cooks from what I can see. Much love to you guys🎆❤️
Thank you for being who you are, nothing but the upmost respect for you my friend... And that Dish looks amazing!!! Keep up the good work and as always I shall follow

Great video victor, I was right in the middle of my dinner about the time you decided to eat that worm ,,lol I had a little trouble getting that mouthful down , keep the good work .
Wow...I’m so use to seeing Brooks dad at the end to taste the food, that I missed not seeing him in this episode .
Happy new year vic and brooke. Love watching these everytime. I wish my family loved fish as much as I do. Here in central Texas, all we got is freshwater but still alls good if you can cook

Wasn't digging your channel, then you ate the worm. 🤘 Lifetime subscriber 😎 Great channel
Fish at the end looked bangin af... 👌

Thanks, God Bless
Saved my life with this video haha I caught a large mulloway (australia) the yesterday and it had a few of these clusters it's in my freezer I didn't know what to do with it so thank you glad I didn't waste it!
I don't know if it's just me but I like JunoRyan's voice. It's just so positive and puts you in a good mood
Well damn! I've never been told that before, but thank you! Tight Lines 🍻
Looks really good! Bet it taste good too! Love the part where you ate the worm raw, hardcore! thank you from Micronesia!
Awesome catches, binged watches your whole channel!
I appreciate the way you treat the fish and make it into a healthy dish. When are you 2 gonna get married? Seriously! It will be awesome!🎣🍻👍
Beautiful meal you prepared. Thank you for the video and information on worms.
I’ve heard so much crap about some dang worms, the natives ate them year round and so do we in Alabama, glad your putting quality information out there because LOTS of people tell you,” ohhh you can’t eat that it has worms” yada yada. You need to start worrying when you catch a 100 fish and they are all worm free(usually a sign of toxic chemicals in the water)
Happy new year
Looking forward to your New video’s Victor
Happy New Year & Happy Birthday Vic!
Dude that worm you ate just added you to the worm cycle between trout and shark 😂
I can already feel 2021 is gonna be MUCH better than 2020! Caught my pb blue cat of 24.5 lb on my first outing of the year!
Happy New Year bro Vic, new subs here all the way from PH! 😅🤙🏼
I enjoy your videos and the plate presentation is spot on!
Happy New Years and belated birthday. Man food looks great. Worms and all. Go seatrout.
I like that salad with Sea Trout dish. It looks so good.
I need to go to Florida and fish! Much love and support from Texas!
As a family we fished on jetties out west catching opal eye which had worms we’d soak the fillets in strong salt water right after cleaning and the worms would crawl out immediately.. In around 10 minutes the worms had all came out and were nearly dead. Then remove the fillets and store as you normally do.
Thank you guys! I use to throw away the whole fish that has worm. Now I feel better to know worm is ok.
Very informative. I learned a lot.
I can almost taste it. Great job catching and cooking.
Looked amazing bud my mouth was watering WHOLE TIME 🤤🤤🤤 cool video
Who else subscribed immediately after he ate the worm? Respect. No flex zone!
Great fishing and educational at the same time! Fish on kids!
Fish on!
Interesting info! Thanks for sharing!

Im having sea trout tonight (white and specks) we are frying it in tempura batter its amazing
Salad is a definite recipe we'll try!
We’ll catch a big drum and always find worms around the tail area. We just cut around the tail finish the filet amd cook the fish!
Vik, your next video should be an earth worm catch clean and cook!! 🪱
you lost me with those red onions brother.. lol nice video
Very cool vid guys. I used to live in Sebastian and miss the inshore fishery. I traded my fishing rod for a goshawk
New Subscriber! FAU? Awesome! I want to know where you were wading.
As a chef, nice texture on the fish! Excellent description on the proper structure of a vinaigrette. I would recommend Dijon; it helps to better bind the emulsion.
I would encourage you to chiffinade cut Arugula or Culantro, add to the lettuce mix, and GARNISH!
Good for you sir that’s why I love your contents you’re reel. And yes those worms will be cooked out.
Love the educational part of your videos
Love your show and the plate looks amazing! All of dishes look good, can i make those dishes without all of the vinegar?
