- In February 2023, El Salvador inaugurated Latin America's largest prison, the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) in Tecoluca, as part of President Nayib Bukele's massive crackdown on gangs. Since then, the UN and NGOs have raised deep concerns about the treatment of inmates, minors being held, and suspects incarcerated as gang members without sufficient proof. The prison currently holds over 12,000 inmates and has capacity for 40,000. Since the crackdown on crime, President Nayib Bukele's approval ratings have remained high, and there has been a substantial reduction in homicides.

Bien merecido lo tienen. Del CECOT no se va nadie, no hay segunda oportunidad. De igual manera que los muertos por pandillas no van a revivir.
Its only controversial outside of el salvador
Not true. I am from western europe and trust me when I say: we the people agree with Bukele. We support him. It's the NGO's and political groups that criticize him. They have made a living out of criticizing 3rd world countries. It's their job to keep these countries poor and filled with crime. Without it they will have no job :)
Tattoo removal is the next step to those who really want to escape the gangs grip.
