If it sounds half as good as it looks, it sounds wonderful!

Thank you. That platter is MASSIVE. I came across your video while searching for how to make a wooden tone arm.

Thank you Panayotis Kritidis, i am sorry i do not have any explanations elsewhere, as i am the kind of builder that not depend on mathematical equations to determine the workings of a tone arm or turntable, that's not to say that i don't take those that use such equations lightly, but i use my ears to tell me when something is correct or not, i have used the total isolation principle as the basis, the arm is built with this in mind, the magnetic forces are in attraction mode and therefore have 0 friction / 0 contact also the platform is totally isolated from the plinth, the plinth has 0 mechanical contact with the motor except for the rubber "O" ring belt, i cannot explain to you how this table sounds, let me just say it sounds unlike anything else i have ever heard, if you consider the fact that there is just a single mechanical contact ie the stylus to the records groove you can then imagine what detail you can retrieve, the suspension for the arm is somewhat unusual as it consists of 2 X N52 Neodymium magnetic spheres with a pull of 8 kgs, it is dual thread hung with 1.5 mm separation to allow for lifting whilst twisting, i have chosen oak for the upright for its absorbance qualities, the arm tube is thin wall 4k rolled carbon fibre very light and very strong it also has 6 x10 mm silicon tubes inside as damping, it is also wired with 18 ct Gold plated 99,99 pure solid silver. i hope this helps

Really nice job. I'm in the process of building my custom table and will be making a video soon.

Congratulations! As a DIY turntable builder (but 40 years before) I have some questions about the tonearm suspension. Do you have some explanations published elsewhere? Very nice video as well!

You should have put a screw in the main bearing spindle and a reservoir on the outside, so it pumps oil up to the top of them bearing housing bush and flows back down to the bottom? How are you supporting the bottom of the bearing shaft what dampening material are you using. If you get a sapphire would be good? Or spending it by a magnets I can't seem to get magnets to work 2 conicals is the right way to go. I think the carbon fibre arm is a bit thin and some dampening material like rockwool would be good? You could use fishing rods they have a conical shape if you use three sections they will fit into each other and glue them with epoxy. Nice job. I think it's a mistake to use solid silver wire and gold-plated? You're better off going with high quality copper oxygen free what is silver cladded not silver plated wire that has it's own Cotton sheath lay down in some white lithium grease in the tonearm. The copper gives you better bass, and the silver give you a better top end, plus the silvers a better conductor than gold.

I have since installed maglev for the main shaft, I am very happy with its performance and silence as well as it being hot (live) adjustable in all required points but the counterweight, i do prefer the silver gold plated to the cardas copper

richard moss What type of Maglev Is it? Does it just add levitation or movement? the ones I've seen I'm not sure about they have to have a magnet in the platter what can't be good it must interfere with the cartridge. Where did you buy yours from have you got a link.

good question Paul, when the belt is tight enough without slippage and without too much stretch its good theres no prescribed position for it.

To some Dumb Ass as you put it, to build means,,,, verb (used with object),
to construct (especially something complex) by assembling and joining parts or materials:
