  • Hi!
    Yes, this project :
    1. not about speakers as usual;
    2. yes, it's inspired by Well Tempered Lab tonearms;
    I do not pretend at all for their glory, they came up with a simple and ingenious thing in their time. My arm (not this one, but really mine) is waiting in the wings, and I do not plan to show it until it is fully ready and tested, but why not play with this?
    I liked the idea of trying to make it not out of metal, but entirely out of wood (yes, the arm tube is made of carbon), but all the other parts are made of solid suar wood and are developed, CNC machined and finished by hand. Well, a couple of pieces of copper went into this project also )
    What I want to tell you, I did not expect such a result on the first try! Yes, it has a lot to improve, but in general, with correct calculations, installation and configuration took me 10 minutes. I pre-made an installation and template and cartridge protracktor, printed it and everything else went straightforward!
    And, if you do not take into account my mistake (or rather, an ultimatly stupid oversight) regarding necessity to screen the arm tube so that there is no hum like in case of improper grounding and interference, then even with the budget Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, it plays very well!
    I think that after the revision, the Sumiko Pearl cartridge will be installed on it and this thing will be the second freestanding tonearm. And will see, how Rega Exact can beat it after )))

    You’ve actually inspired an idea in ceramic thst although perhaps not fully functional would be a wonderful , interesting concept piece , the resonant turntable that makes its own music !

    Simply beautiful .i love the reduction down to simple forms and the use wood .it reminds me of those Japanese, Zen , traditional Tea Ceremony for some reason ? Perhaps the proportions and wood used . It’s a beautiful turntable that’s certain and I’m envious of your skill in making it . I work in studio ceramics and would love to make a turntable and tonearm out of some different ceramics such a paper clays or porcelain , but sadly I think ot would be just a bit resonant ! . ?

    Отличная работа! Про работу не спрашиваю, знаю, что отлично должен играть!

      Почему? Он дрожит как удилище. Жестче должен быть значительнее. У него эффективная масса мизерная. Можно преспокойно делать толще и деревяннее. Винил - это неровности и смещения в десятки и сотни нанометров. Играет роль абсолютно все.

    Looks good! I wonder if brass paint on that ball could have worked? :)

    Bon travail. Pouvez-vous partager les dessins? Cela faisait longtemps que je voulais fabriquer ce bras de lecture.

      Спасибо, Александр! У меня нет чертежей как таковых, есть только файлы CAD для моего станка, так быстрее и эффективнее, чтоб двойную работу не делать. И этот тонарм я уже доработал для другого проекта - аудио консоль с проигрывателем винила.

    Great design. I get tired and frustrated when I see these arms costing ten of thousands of dollars and I know one can be designed and just as good costing very little. Such as the AR design. Which I see you have given a nod to with your counterweight.

      Thank you for your comment. For sure this tonearm construction is not my invention at all, but in the same time it's not an entire copy of someone. All the pieces I did myself with my CNC, including copper counterweight. I'd like to try this design because i'm in processing with my other tonearm which is tangential one and several things I using there i've checked with this.

      @@inception-hifi I was taking a CNC. solid model design program, and I was in the advanced class and my project is a turntable design. Though I wasn't in the process of designing an arm, I wanted to prove that a great table doesn't have tp cost $10K-$50K. I think it is ridiculous seeing people paying that much for a table. My design is just as good, if not better, than tables costing thousands more. And I am not even an engineer. I'm not bragging here, I am merely illustrating a point, such as you have here. Thanks again, and I look forward to more videos from you.
