  • Instead of throwing away your old tools maybe you could find a new use for it or at least some of the interesting mechanisms inside. I'm reusing a broken angle grinder to make a new tool for my workshop!

    Great use of up cycling. One change I would do is to put a bend out on the top of the metal plate you fitted to the front. It would help with the dust extraction.

    • @Ollaris
      @Ollaris  Před 3 lety +4

      Thanks. I see what you mean bit there’s not enough room. The table part interferes when it’s set to 45degrees. That’s why I had to use thin aluminum. Moving the table further away would make it possible to get a bend in there but a bigger gap at the sanding disk would mean a greater chance to get the workpiece jammed in there when sanding small pieces.

    I just happen to have the guts of a grinder waiting for a project. Between you and Izzy Swan it seems inevitable that it will become a disc sander. What I like about this most is that you can make a few discs with different grits and just swap them out if needed.

    🤔 I wonder how many people in the world throw away old, broken tools everyday without knowing they are possibly throwing away another tool that they can use. A tool that can be made like this! It would save them/us from spending more money on another tool 🤦🏻‍♂️.
    All it takes is some knowledge and a little imagination.
    Thank you for sharing your knowledge and imagination and bringing it to life for us to see that there is more to life, if we just think outside the box a tiny bit.

    If you're sharpening sharp things on it sharpen on the side of the wheel spinning away from the tool so you don't catch the sharp edge into the sandpaper.

    • @Ollaris
      @Ollaris  Před 3 lety +1

      That’s true for grinders and belt sanders. Although I wouldn’t sharpen anything on a disc sander, The upward spinning disc could catch the tool upwards, right where the operator stands. Getting a chisel or a blade in the face is not fun.

    • @Realism91
      @Realism91 Před 3 lety

      @@Ollaris Someone could use honing compound instead of sandpaper though, and they could put a guard on the side that's spinning the wrong way just use a quarter of the surface... I wouldn't suggest that to someone without a guard.
