When unthinkable events happen, your work as a practitioner becomes so much more crucial.
And lately, it feels like we have been witnessing one unthinkable tragedy after another.
As we grieve and process these events ourselves, we are simultaneously helping clients navigate the grief, disillusionment, and even hopelessness they may feel in the wake of tragedies. For some clients, these events may retrigger unresolved trauma.
So in this video, Usha Tummala-Narra, PhD shares how she works with clients who are feeling disillusioned to help them move toward hope.
After watching, let us know in the comments below how you work with clients who feel overwhelmed or disillusioned by world events.

Does NICABM address the extreme startle response from unexpected subtle noises in any of their videos?

Disillusionment is good because I would rather be disillusioned than believe an illusion. Radical acceptance is key.

Disillusionment sucks. There is nothing to look forward to and the world looks bleak. Yes you have to deal with it if it's something in your life, but I certainly would never inflict this on someone. It sucks in every way. Don't glorify it as if it's something greater than it is.

But dread over the state of the world is different than the dread you feel because your mom or dad dismissed your feelings growing up and now you have massive difficulties in relationships. Good therapy may cause someone to become politically active, but therapy itself cannot be political, it has to address more primordial emotional issues.

Our emotions are political. Actually, psychotherapy has had a hard time acknowledging it.

Not necessarily, they're still existential dread due to trauma

Not having children is not a new idea. I'm 60. Did NOT curse any innocent human being with the cess pool of DNA and genes.
Have over 20 nephews and nieces , the name will carry on. So what. Trauma stops here. Main abuser told me ".. can't wait till you have kids...' Desided right there,... trauma stops here.

I hear you. I don't understand the obsession with legacy. It's just scraps of beliefs from the past, when the mortality rate was high.

The good, the bad and the ugly…I just want the good. Is that too naive, unrealistic or inauthentic.🐣 #cepv #IMustWin

Without spiritual grounding, a plumb line of truth, it is difficult to find peace, faith or hope. But that's the point, that's the times we are in. Without the spiritual conversation activities can only go so far to create safety, like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
