I'm not married but this is definitely a very wonderful and eye-opening conversation. I certainly wish I would have known this wisdom in my previous relationship. My ex and I never hardly saw eye-to-eye on just about anything and he would always complain and I would always feel like something was wrong with me. We were just incompatible on many levels but God is still good! After much prayer, I began to realize that there's nothing wrong with me, but that we were both two completely different individuals as far hobbies, goals, and aspirations.

Wow, I've been married for 35yrs, we met as Christians, but boy, with all the differences, it is so hard not to get frustrated after so many years. As I've grown so much as a Christian, he has just stagnated. For years, I had to put my passion for studying God's Word aside as it just seemed to make him look bad, the church I was in was male dominating and legalistic, though I just thought it was a strong church, but it squashed my passion for learning and made me out to be rebellious for wanting to know more. So I put my books aside, and tried to be the "good little housewife and mother", but it didn't make my marriage better, my husband didn't rise up, like they said he would if I let go... I see now, that it was the wrong advise, God had made me a certain way and to quench the zeal and passion that God had given me, wasn't what God wanted at all. After nearly 30yrs in that church, it nearly destroyed our marriage, not made it better. As women, we need to not be ashamed of who God has made us to be and don't change because a pastor or husband tells you to, we change only to be more like Jesus and come into submission to him, that way, we will be the best versions of ourselves and not live in bitterness towards those who have held us back and towards ourselves for listening to them. We are now both seeing counsellors, I have before, but my husband never would. We had never been allowed to see anyone other than the uneducated pastors that our church had. What damage that did to us as individuals, as a couple and to our grown kids who don't see marriage as a good thing or church. How foolish we were, we nearly lost everything that was important, what we should have been good stewards of, instead of obedience to a man... I look back now, with the hurt that it caused and we are now trying to swim to shore after nearly drowning.

I've always, even as a little girl, known that God has a much bigger mission for me than the usual marriage and kids. Yes, I get lonely sometimes but I learned to talk to God through my loneliness, after all He is the ONLY one who will actually understand.

Spending time together is very important. Even when you like different things. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't even eat with me at night. Over the years I've went to every football game, motorcycle race, etc. I would just love for him to sit with me and eat supper and briefly go over how our day has went. I'm sure he loves me, but it doesn't feel like it when he acts like its a burden to eat together or chat. I'm not asking for a long drawn out conversation, just more than 5 minutes a day. And yes, I've asked him to.
@Random Thoughts I'm not cooking. He doesn't ever eat supper. He says he eats a big lunch so he doesn't want any thing. I just sit at the table by myself. He isn't rude about it, just doesn't understand why its important. His family never ate together when he was growing up.

I'm not married but this is definitely a very wonderful and eye-opening conversation. I certainly wish I would have known this wisdom in my previous relationship. My ex and I never hardly saw eye-to-eye on just about anything and he would always complain and I would always feel like something was wrong with me. We were just incompatible on many levels but God is still good! Wow, I've been married for 35yrs, we met as Christians, but boy, with all the differences, it is so hard not to get frustrated after so many years. As I've grown so much as a Christian, he has just stagnated. For years, I had to put my passion for studying God's Word aside as it just seemed to make him look bad, the church I was in was male dominating and legalistic, though I just thought it was a strong church, but it squashed my passion for learning and made me out to be rebellious for wanting to know more. So I put my books aside, and tried to be the "good little housewife and mother", but it didn't make my marriage better, my husband didn't rise up, like they said he would if I let go... I see now, that it was the wrong advise, God had made me a certain way and to quench the zeal and passion that God had given me, wasn't what God wanted at all. After nearly 30yrs in that church, it nearly destroyed our marriage, not made it better. As women, we need to not be ashamed of who God has made us to be and don't change because a pastor or husband tells you to, we change only to be more like Jesus and come into submission to him, that way, we will be the best versions of ourselves and not live in bitterness towards those who have held us back and towards ourselves for listening to them. We are now both seeing counsellors, I have before, but my husband never would. We had never been allowed to see anyone other than the uneducated pastors that our church had. What damage that did to us as individuals, as a couple and to our grown kids who don't see marriage as a good thing or church. How foolish we were, we nearly lost everything that was important, what we should have been good stewards of, instead of obedience to a man... I look back now, with the hurt that it caused and we are now trying to swim to shore after nearly drowning.

Spending time together is very important. Even when you like different things. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't even eat with me at night. Over the years I've went to every football game, motorcycle race, etc. I would just love for him to sit with me and eat supper and briefly go over how our day has went. I'm sure he loves me, but it doesn't feel like it when he acts like its a burden to eat together or chat. I'm not asking for a long drawn out conversation, just more than 5 minutes a day. And yes, I've asked him to.
@Random Thoughts I'm not cooking. He doesn't ever eat supper. He says he eats a big lunch so he doesn't want any thing. I just sit at the table by myself. He isn't rude about it, just doesn't understand why its important. His family never ate together when he was growing up.
