  • The second part of the Tyne & Wear Metro system shows us the Yellow line from South Shields to St. James.
Uniquely we get to see the Yellow line's pretzel configuration at Mounment passing through the station twice.

Thanks for this - I lived in Newcastle when the Metro opened (popular name at the time, Metro Radio, Mini Metro car, even Metro Cammell who made the rolling stock) and I loved it - West Jesmond was my local station. Sadly we moved away in 1982 before it had fully come into its own and I’ve only been on for a ride on Metro a couple of times since, but this was nostalgic for me and I’m glad to see it’s gone from strength to strength.

Just a quick note about local pronunciation: the name of the district near Gateshead, Pelaw, is pronounced with the accent on the second syllable, thus Peláw.

The Green and Yellow videos were the most sophisticated video cab rides I have seen on CZcams with cab view and station views interspersed plus the commentary and CC. I followed the rides on Railway Track Diagrams and it was great. My only complaint was cutting the cab views before and after stations and on the seascape past Whitley Bay. I'm afraid the entry and exit to stations is for me the most vital part of a cab ride. I know you made it flow in real-time but this way we missed most of the entries and exits, which are vital to me.

The metro is a good system,I have a respect for the original Tyne & wear PTE before privatisation with its yellow and white buses and metro cars it looked modern and efficient and northern general in its yellow version of NBC livery then privatisation and deregulation came when I think of Tyneside its this plus the tube and razzmatazz from Tyne tees TV superb

Buy a day saver ticket for zones A+B+C and you could spend all day on the metro .. AND .. on the ferry too. The heworth to Sunderland 'normal train' can also be used with this ticket. I live in Whitley Bay and have done that several times

Nice informative video, well done. Agree with what you say about passenger information screens at Monument. Very confusing for the unaware/non-local traveller as to which platform to use to go towards Tynemouth etc. One long way around, one much shorter. Surprising this difficulty has not been addressed.

Chi was a new station on a new alignment, constructed for the metro. The original BR line followed a different route after leaving the original Tyne Dock station.

If you stand in any of the shops on Grey Street or around monument and wait patiently, you can feel the Metro pass along below you every 6 or so minutes ^3^ it can faintly rattle your cup in the Starbucks across from Central Station too :D

Really enjoyed "travelling" on this route far away from the South Coast where I live. Very good captions and historical commentary as well. The lineside/platform shots add greatly to the appreciation of the journey.
By the way ... here in Sussex the locals also call Chichester "Chi" ... (Chy) ... small world isn't it?
