- What's in a poi tether length? So many people are really focused on long poi or short poi, but what are the benefits and drawbacks of each one? Which one might you want to try out yourself and why? Here I try to break down the pros and cons of different tether lengths and what specific kinds of tricks might lead you to choosing one over another.

I started with your length preference around 10 years ago! I started with sock poi and ventured into glow sticks for about a year and then got into contact poi. My preferred length these days is 27.5-28in. That being said,I have poi of many lengths for whatever mood I’m in. I love spinning slow and relaxed but sometimes I like shorter poi for mostly 3D based flow/juggling.
Cool! I have different sets of poi for different purposes as well. I also have the privilege of being a well-known poi influencer, so I get set a lot of different sets from different companies. I know many other people won't be able to have several different sets of poi, so I think it's helpful to try and give them the information they need to get the best poi for their scarce dollars!
Like you said in regards to stalls, longer tethers are better for training and cleaning things up. They really do make for a slower possible stable spin. Slower means more time; More time to react, more time to prepare your next transition, etc. Big fan here of poi that touch the ground
Very helpful, thank you so much =)
Sure thing! I'm glad to hear it was helpful.
I guess I can understand why one would want a static length but I spin with strings that go down to me ankles. I wrap in a way that allows me to quickly change the length while I'm spinning so I'm never limited to one length. It creates an evolving show that allows for infinite combinations
Different strokes for different folks.
@@DrexFactor true story. Nothing but respect to anyone's individual choices.
same! I wrap them and un wrap them throughout my flow, sometimes i have one wrapped and one unwrapped which makes for interesting fountains and flowers
damn I cut mine shorter just a couple days ago haha. slightly regretting the decision cause it was cole cord..my last of it..and looks like they dont make it anymore. wish I waited a couple more days
the irony haha
OMG...I can't even remember the last time I heard someone mention Colecord.
@@DrexFactor haha yea had some of it kicking around in the bag of poi for years. have you ever spun with it?
@@matc87 Indeed I have! Not in many years but there was a period where I'd jerry-rigged some tethers out of colecord. I remember people at Wildfire being really impressed with them back in the day.
