    Very good video Drex! Thanks for doing this :)! I agree with your thinking what all different aspects comes into the picking of the poi!

    Thank you this is very beneficial. I am so glad I have some good led poi now that you have recommended. I love pod poi so much and they still haven't broken on me still working even though I have dropped them in the sand still didn't break. I have 3 good sets of led poi that I love and always look into getting new led poi when I can afford it.

    Hi Drex, could you please recommend some led pois that would suit a beginner. Taking into account brightness battery life and would need to ship to Australia 🇦🇺

    I'm currently in the market for a new set of LED Poi and I would have loved a video with a review of the different pois. I just don't know which ones have which functions...

    I recently purchased jelly poi ultimate set, they lasted 2 weeks before half the LEDs were out on both. Not one hard hit or drop. Glad I still have my pyroterra zebra poi. Needless to say it’ll be a long time til these are fixed.

    Okay so i learned to spin fire first. I learned from watching my daughter's bf. He had 2 sets so i threw some tiki torch fluid on a pair of those bad boys and spun them. I played with them a little bit but i just dont like fire too much because when you mess up and hit yourself in the face, it burns. I never burned myself, or at least not yet.
    And then i walk into the rich people dollar 25 tree and low and behold, found a stack of LED POI and bought 2 sets, 8n fact i hit the 2 most local stores and ended up with about 7 pair, i have big parties and got them because the drunk dudes always want to play with fire and im just not comfortable with that.
    The pair of poi i got from 5below are basic, you got 7 colors to choose or color change mode. They are on nylon string and have a pin mechanism on one side along with tied to a ring with finger straps on the other. I started 9f with using rings instead of straps and that ended with the ring eventually cut the rope.then i start using the finger stra0s and havent had that problem. I have however smacked the tar out of those balls and a sometimes the piece holding the string inside the ball will break and then only one side is left with the ball hanging from it. But that happens when i get a little too agressive and smack my leg or yeah my head. They are pretty soft but after having them for about a year... i finally sa8d ouch and neant it but to do that you gotta whack yourself really hard. Anyways, i have had the pairs of poi for about a year now, i have my 2 pairs i use m9re just because i changed batteries and had to use the wrong ones which instead of hours on end of playtime, i got literally minutes, but i was able to use the right batteries and once again i can spin for hours. I have a few decirating my oak trees from the kids messing with them and a few have ripped off the string completely. One had the light pack come off and my two borzoi like to chase those across the field. The few that are off the strings i use in my smoke room just for cool lighting i guess.
    I have looked at the others online and i think i am pretty satisfied with the pair i have but i do want to try others eventually.
    The pair of poi I got from 5below cost 5 bucks for the pair and they lasted a really long time before i had to change batteries.
    I havent found them in any other store and i am so accustom to them everytime i try to spin fire poi i end up immediately putting them out. They are so lightweight its almost like clouds.

    Another thing to consider is how hard or soft the poi head is as a beginner ur bount to hit your self many times

    Sustainability is a big topic for me - my Poi MUST be rechargeable. Non-rechargeable batteries are such a waste, their production requires 50 times the energy they store and their disposal is also problematic. I really like my pod poi, which are chargeable via USB!

    • @AthiestDing
      @AthiestDing Před 9 měsíci

      I like the handels on my pod poi. They can be used to distance the poi from one another with 2 in one hand alowing to start with opposing pendulum throw into a butterfly, stall then reverse the butterfly. Working towards some 4 poi tricks.

    I just started with poi a couple days ago. I made my own with a sock and a tennis ball, but I think it's a little too short. It goes from my palm to my elbow and I'm also fat, so I have a wide torso and I keep brushing my arm when crossing over (I'm trying to learn the forward figure 8 I saw from a channel called "SpinPoi | Dr. Kate Riegle van West"). I'm thinking that if I get/make something a little longer, I maybe won't have to reach as far to cross over. Maybe I just need more practice. I'm especially struggling with crossing over my left arm. I'm able to do it sometimes, but I just think that maybe a longer poi would make things a little more comfortable for how big I am. I'd like some advice on this if possible. If I can get decent with my sock poi, I will probably get some LED poi, but I didn't want to put a lot of money into something I just just started because I might not stick with it. I'm enjoying just swinging the poi around so far though.

      Of course it is a matter of personal preference, but what you describe is rather short from my point of view. From knuckles to shoulder is a pretty standard length, I would say. Drex made a video on tether length, as well, which was really good. I prefer to have the tethers a bit longer, as you can always wrap them around your hands once if necessary for tricks like buzzsaw. I think starting with self-made poi is ok as long as their limitations don’t take away the joy to try! Maybe you can find a cheap, but good set second hand? What also greatly helps is to practice in front of a mirror, then you can spot irregularities in your movement pattern, like left side vs. right side. I am happy for you you found this hobby - keep on practicing and enjoy!

      @@NemoOurName4ever Thanks for the advice. I just bought some poi that are longer for about $30. They're still sock poi, but they have a cool design on them. Hopefully, they help a bit, but I'll still need to practice in order to get good. The ones I made are still fun to swing around.

      I am a fan of socks with balloons filled with rice or beans. That way you can find a weight that works for you. Each person's preferred length is different.For me I use poi with my arm stretched and them in my hand, they reach out to an inch from my face. But I usually spin(I'm a glowstringer) with them rolled over my hands once where they only reach to my elbows. It's all about personal preference and poi spinning style

    • @NemoOurName4ever
      @NemoOurName4ever Před rokem

      Sounds good! I hope you enjoy them. Sock poi are cool! 😁 as for the practicing - well, we all have to, no matter how long we spin, and it can be frustrating. But it is so rewarding when you finally manage a trick.

      I started with longer leashes on spin balls A few months in I invested in pod poi , still with longer leashes than you are using.. I've been doing it about a year and love it. Keep at it. Your personal style will develop

    Hi! You’re my absolute here but I was hoping to put in a request! Would you consider doing a dance choreography to Fire Woman by the Cult? It doesn’t need flames! Just your LED flow. Your Eddie Vedder was flawless so I suspect you may know the song? Just flowing it out there ❤
