Loved this. John is such a walking dictionary of the post punk era. Not to mention one of the best bass players of all time.

To Cut a Long Story... Paint Me Down... Planet Earth... Save a Prayer... Now you made me to open my closet with old records. And it's the middle of a chilly night. Good thing that the human brain preserves it's memories.

BACK IN THE 80'S, THERE WERE LIKE 7/8 TOP BANDS THAT WERE ALL BIG, THERE WAS A RECORD TO BUY EVERY WEEK, TOURING WENT THOUGH THE ROOF THEN. BESIDES SEEING DURAN 35 TIMES ON VARIOUS TOURS, I SAW CULTURE CLUB,AHA,FRANKIE,SOFT CELL ERASURE,ADAM & THE ANTS AND LOADS MORE. IT BASICALLY WAS BY FAR THE MOST EXCITING TIME EVER.

Simply amazing guys, I loved it! Thank you for this! ♥️ In some way it's like discovering parts of music history I didn't know (I was about 10 in 1995, and we didn't get much information here in Argentina about the bands we heard on the radio). And I love hearing all those stories, so passionately told by the very protagonists. 👏👏👏💯

After listening to the podcast, I checked out your band again Gary ... being from Ireland this a great song czcams.com/video/Ct58gtxcbnI/video.html... the original band should try to get together again ... too good not to be playing live again ! Tony is a key ingredient to the Spandau sound !

John Densmore auditioned while on his way to see Judas Priest ?? 😳

He has to have misspoken and meant Robbie Krieger, since they were auditioning guitarists, already having Roger Taylor firmly in the drummer's seat. As far as Judas Priest, they were in fact from Birmingham same as Duran, and weren't they still in the midst of a transition into their heavier sound in the late '70s? If so then Robbie Krieger coming to Birmingham to see Judas Priest might not have been as far fetched as it might seem!

Is real music produced mostly by white men in their middle years? Time for some different faces here. Kate Bush? Grace Jones? Anne Dudley? Bjork? Alison Goldfrapp? Janelle Monáe? Come on, you can do better.
