Thing is, this was probably a test for Rhodey. Nick Fury later notes that Tony configured the Mark II to Rhodey just before this fight, because Tony thought he was dying and wanted to make sure there was someone who could protect the world with his technology. He chose Rhodey.

Rrooaarrr
of course he knew. Romanoff tells that to Fury later. Stark has security guidelines that prevent unauthorized usage of the suits. If Rhodey even got inside of one, it's because Stark disabled those guidelines for him. Stark knew he was dying, he wanted someone to continue his work when he's gone
He orchestrated this whole thing, so that Rhodey can have Mark II
If you pay close attention you'll realize that Rhodey is the better fighter due to his time in the military but Tony keeps knocking him off balance because he has a better understanding of the suit. Also 1:59 reminds me of "rock em sock em robots" 😂
I was just thinking about it you see Rhodey take an actual stance and use some real moves vs Tony who was just boxing and using his knowledge of the suit

I'm honestly shocked that Rhodey was able to not only figure out how to use that suit but use it to a degree that he was able to fight its own creator as quickly as he did, man even figured out how to fly it all the way back to base so I'm guessing that Stark interfered and just casually 'left' a user guide among its data.
Outside of the physical actions that need to be learned, Tony did put standard flight readouts and information in the HUD that Rhodey as a pilot would be able to interpret decently well. It’s also likely the suit locks up during flight into a specific position. During the dogfight in the first film, Tony has to use a lot of voice commands to make the suit do things a human body likely wouldn’t be able to when flying at high speeds
I honestly thought Stark taught Rhodes how to use the suit in between movies but apparently he didn’t?

The fact that drunk Tony still wanted to protect the civilians outside (even if by scaring them off) is noble.
Dude, are you for real? He was literally shooting beams just feet above dozens of people's heads, while severely intoxicated. Tony is a good man, but he was being extremely irresponsible in this scene, he is wearing one of the greatest weapons on the planet while extremely drunk, and he's shooting shit FEET ABOVE his guests heads. He scared them off because he was fighting and they were all just watching it and entertained by it, because the fight was pretty fuckin awesome. But no dude, Rhodey and Pepper are the ones that wanted to protect the civilians, that's literally the reason he put on the suit and told everyone to leave. It's fucking insane to me how people will defend Tony's actions and call Rhodey and Pepper bad friends for "Trying to ruin his night" When Tony is literally doing the equivalent of drinking and driving times 1,000, or fucking drinking and driving a tank, with dozens of innocents surrounding you. Notice the subtle parallel of the scene. Tony's suit is very blazoned and colorful to match his personality, while Rhodey's is very uniform and, for lack of a better word, strict with the single-colored suit.
Love the little nod they threw in to showcase the ideologies held by Tony and Rhodey here in this scene. Not by any dialogue between the 2 of them, but simply by the color of the suits they're wearing.
Remember, guys, show. Don't tell.

Funny thing is how Fury says Rhodes kicked his ass around the house. By the looks of things Rhodes literally only gets in his shots because Tony's distracted. The fact a military trained is only just holding his own against someone who is royally plastered...
Ahh but Rhodey is unused to the suit while Tony has a lot of practice with them so while Rhodes may have better combat training the suit would throw him off severely first his speed would be different, as the suit would improve mobility in certain areas while hindering it in others, second he wouldn't know how much strength he could throw behind a punch due to the suit enhancing his strength forcing him to either over compensate and throw much weaker punches or under compensate and get thrown around by the suit, and finally it's an inferior suit as it appears to be the mark two which means different materials no weapons sub-par electronics and possibly lower quality in other ways.
Fury also notes that Tony LET him win; Fury states that Tony had calibrated the Mark II to Rhodey just before the encounter. Tony thought he was going to die, and wanted to leave a piece of his tech with someone who he thought would use it responsibly.
Rhodes' suit in that was the Mark 2, the very 1st one we saw him build on iron man 1 and the base for the War machine Suits
but yeah the gap in combat training can be explained by rhodes not knowing how ot handle the suit and trying to not do unecessary damage or injure tony.
However, Fury later on states tht they knew tony callibrated the Mark II to be used by Rhodes so in a sense tony wanted him ot take the suit.
And those sloppy ass throws. You're in a suit that undoubtedly assists in precision decisions yet you still miss by a good 3-4 feet. Take it off rhodes.
He’s also using an outdated suit he’s unfamiliar with
