    Nice ride Sir! I'm down in Melbourne ina weeks time, so will be riding some trams, and having coffee in the CBD Laneways. The "B" class are my favourite tram, so I'll be looking out fro what routes they run them on. Will do the 96 and 12 as per usual , then pick a few others....looking forward to it!
    Cheers Gregg.

    This tram line only becomes the 3a when it has to take a different route due to protests in the city. Like today. And when road works, or track work is being done. Today the 21st of July we are going to the Vic market via Kingsway. Never been this way before.

      @@ava.4150 Yes a is added to the route number whenever the route is altered for any reason. The driver will tell you if necessary. Don’t forget d = depot for trams heading there. The regular Luna Park detour no longer exists.

    A nice tram ride. St Kilda is a good hub for public transport in Melbourne. It was nice to be there again in March after 40 years. We are planing to visit Australia again in 2026. I hope it will work😉

      @@peterausfranken You have tricked me a little bit by changing your name here, but mention of your Melbourne visit made it clear to me. I was looking forward to hearing a little report from you about the Melbourne holiday, so I am still wondering what are the main points that come to mind. Obviously the virtual disappearance of W class would have to be a major change.

      @@tressteleg1 My visit in Melbourne was nice. To the trams. The A, B, C, D und E Class where new for me. The D Class are from Siemens and run also in germany. The E Class have a smooth ride. The W Class is an iconic tram and my favorit
      Weather was nice and l visited a lot of places. Melbourne has changed a lot in over 40 years, but that is everywhere.

      @@peterausfranken Thanks for that little report. I did not realise that you had not seen the A-Class at least. Anyway I hope you had some nice rides on them and the new trams, for better or worse. While the W class look much the same as ever, unfortunately the controls are now all electronic and it seems that some of the new drivers have not been taught how to drive them very well. It’s good that the weather was nice.

      @@tressteleg1 The A Class trams started as i left Melbourne. Some tram tracks in Melbourne are in poor conditions.
      At my time streets like Swanson Street where only for cars. For trains there where the red rattlers, the Harris (blue) trains and the Hitachi trains.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Před 21 dnem

      @peterausfranken I looked it up, and the A class trams first appeared in 1984. I moved to Melbourne late 1987, and remember having a tour on A 300 soon after.
      Road traffic was removed from Swanson Street around 1992 and since then the footpaths have widened and other improvements made. Especially over the last 10 years, a lot of track in poor condition has been replaced and overall the ride is much smoother these days. However junctions and other point work often remains noisy and cause the trams to bounce around sometimes. Hopefully in 2026 you will have plenty of time. It takes quite a while to ride some of the longer lines.

    Great video as usual, Richard. I love a B2 at speed. Was there an issue with the gong on that tram or an over exuberant driver. I saw no issues that warranted a gong in most instances when it was sounded.
