    1. Not Starting Slowly: One of the most common mistakes is not easing into tretinoin. It's crucial to start with a lower concentration and gradually increase the strength as your skin builds tolerance. Beginning with a high-strength tretinoin product can lead to excessive dryness, redness, and irritation.
    2. Using Too Much: Less is often more when it comes to tretinoin. Applying too much product can overwhelm your skin and lead to increased irritation. A pea-sized amount is typically sufficient for the entire face. Avoid applying it too close to sensitive areas like the eyes and lips.
    3. Skipping Moisturizer: Tretinoin can be drying, especially during the initial adjustment period. Skipping moisturizer can exacerbate dryness and peeling. Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to lock in moisture and soothe the skin.
    4. Inadequate Sun Protection: Tretinoin can make your skin more susceptible to sun damage. Neglecting sunscreen or not applying it generously can lead to increased sunburn risk, skin damage, and potential worsening of hyperpigmentation. Always wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily and reapply as needed.
    5. Using Harsh Skincare Products: Combining tretinoin with other harsh skincare products, such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), or benzoyl peroxide, can increase skin irritation and sensitivity. It's essential to coordinate your skincare routine with your dermatologist and avoid using aggressive products simultaneously.
