Do average desis care what he keeps going on about in designer trash? Or NRIs for that matter with all his tacky films? The only thing that Dharma has done good is help germ small indies where the hidden game plan is to eventually turn those filmmakers into tomorrow's mainstream trash delivery device! @@Iminoamino Being self-aware is very difficult too. Takes a toll on your mind to actually embrace the criticism. I love the fact that he knows and sees a big gap between two or three different varieties of cinema. And I personally feel that, if given the creative and artistic freedom, he can make an unapologetically realistic commercial movie. He knows he is not the best... He never wanted to. He just wants to redefine the concept of Hindi cinema. I also like what he says about a good movie. A good movie must be watched by all the avid film lovers. You must have a target audience. For commercial movies, the target audience are the folks that come to theatres. For arthouse and indie cinema, the target audience are deep cinema appreciators and the critics and jury members of big award festivals.

You are right Karan! Many of us enjoyed those videos you posted on your kids. Their innocence and being themselves brought a smile and joy during those Covid times. And BTW, many of us LOVED Kalank even though it didn’t do well at the Box Office. Even though some of the settings were unrealistic to the plot, we forgave those inconsistencies and enjoyed the story (and the superb acting of every actor) as it unfolded under the direction of your director, Abhishek Verman.
I would also like to add- calling Alia Bhatt the ‘best’ actor in our country across all genders is only detrimental to her career. We all know that’s not true. Every actor has their good and bad movies. I watched the trailers of both Gangubhai and Sadak 2. She was amazing in the former and Razi but her shrill voice in Sadak 2, made me want to shut off the trailer right away. And we have so many amazing actors in our country. So calling her the ‘best’ is false praise which will not be helpful to her.

I wish karan johar, or anybody from Dharma could have used this exceptional talent called parineeti chopra more in their films. Most of their strong lead characters went to Alia bhatt. Parineeti Chopra is a talent which is underused.
She was fantastic in hasee toh phasee, sabdeep aur pinky faraar, ishaqzade, ricky bhal, shudh desi romance, meri pyari bindu etc.
Talent like her deserves wayyy more than what she is getting.. 💛

    Kaal (Supernatural Thriller)
    Gippi ( Teen Comedy Drama)

    Raazi (Spy period Thriller)

I disagree with some Koffe Episodes and rankings and some things he said on his show, but he also said that it‘a all fun. But if you listen to him talk and how he works shows his talent and understanding of indian cinema. He also made iconic movies like Kuch Kuch and K3G. Every actor of this Gen says that they grew up with both movies and even internationally all his movies did amazingly well. In Germany everyone knows who Karan is and everyone watched his movies. Also i personally find it very sweet that he made K3G for his parents as a love letter

With all due respect, your understanding of regional cinema was minimal. Regional cinema like Telugu Tamil and others too made some great films in 50s and 60s. Classics like maaya bazar and missamma and it’s just that audience for regional language is limited those days unlike Hindi cinema . Now regional cinema is surpassing those hurdles and that’s the only difference. Honestly its not Hindi that taught South about angry young man hero types. Telugu made some great commercials with Shri NTR way back and he is a pioneer in the mythological s and later Chiranjeevi Garu mesmerized audience. They just didn’t get a platform unlike the current generation.

    • @maddyd1563
      @maddyd1563 Před 2 lety +10

Exactly our mythological movies, some NTR, ANR movies and especially K. Viswanath sir’s movie had universal stories. Also their making and story telling was on par with any Hollywood director. My belief was Bollywood has always underlooked south industry. For example P suseelamma, Chitramma, S Janakamma, SPB sir are equal when compared to Lata Mangeshkar Garu, or Kishore Kumar or Mohammed rafi. But we rarely see Bollywood appreciating south talents compared to what we do to north talent.

Very true. South had great mythological and fictional(Jaanapadhaalu) films which were unique and in one way brought epics into every home. Vittalacharya was a great example of creative thinking and way ahead of his time in terms of technique. We had balachandar garu who took up strong woman characters, vishwanath garu who brought a sense of aesthetic to films.

As a 16 year old watching K2H2 was a phenomenon, i was in my 10th Grade about to move to 11th grade (junior college) that movie made my late teens special. A guy who went crazy abt Hrithik Roshan in KNPH got to know he will be joining none other than Mr. Bachchan & SRK in K3G which also had Jayaji, Kajol n Kareena you must be living under a rock to not love this cast, whats in the movie is a question not even asked. N you go into your single screen balcony and watch the visuals unfold was special. The houses, the sets, the dance routines, the locations. It was all so speacial! Tears still roll down when you see Aman dying in the penultimate scene of KHNH, Rohit was as cool as he was funny and Naina was Nai..Naaa..(hear Rohit saying "why are you saying Naina Naina?)! And as Mr. BR says he did change with time with movies like MNIK & ADHM, so he is doing fine. This guy is a big part of my life and people who were born around that time.

like watching his interviews since it feels he talks right from his heart , and doesnt blabber cliched , positive, inspiring diplomatic done to death quotes..however as a discerning viewer of cinema across regions in india and d world , i have few things-
    1. salim javed wud have written lot of good scripts however their sholay was inspired from the story , setup and tone of those wild west movies made by Sergio leone-Client eastwood..Gabbar character has been lifted from one of their films , even scenes like Gabbar thrashing the bug crawling up his hands etc taken as it is from one such film of sergio..watch all Sergio wild west based movies , and u will understand how sholay is being made...
    2. Just bec majority watches a Salman khan film doesnt mean that film is a great film...it means that majority ppl have mediocre tastes...Kashmir files got views bec of the religious card it plays and religion is d biggest selller not only in india , but across globe..Tamil film Masters topped d netflix charts , doesnt mean it is a great film...lly, pushpa also a time pass movie..nobody gona remember it after 50 yrs...only great films ppl remember..Telugu ind is good in innovation in action and dance sequences however their masala syntax with over worshipping of the hero , slow motions is not quality cinema....its time pass cinema..i too watched it and liked it but will i call it a better film than lunchbox..never!!! Such films makes numbers , bec as I said ppl have mediocre tastes...Rohit shetty is not a good film maker..sooryavansham cant be watched even for time pass, there has to be innovation even while making slow motion , macho movies which telugus knos d best how to do....
    3. being such an experienced and widely recognised maker/producer, its diappointing that he didnt speak of Malayalam cinema...Ppl think that south india is abt tamil/telugu films but most of their cinemas are remake of Malayalam movies...its one of the best industries in india with quality content...
    4. kabhi alvida na kehna was a very good film...ppl who didnt like it are those sanskaari idiots of this country..
