Journal Embellishments are some of my favorite way of decorating junk journal cover and I’ve been using IOD moulds to make my own custom embellishments. I’ve enjoyed using them with clay and I’ve liked using them with hot glue but a friend recently taught me a new trick and it may be my new favorite way of creating easy handmade embellishments!
Lisha Ahmad (you can find her on IG @crafttherapywithlisaahmad) recently showed me how to create my IOD mould ideas using paper mache designs. You simply take a few things and make a few layers in almost any mould and BAM!- you have handmade embellishments.
It’s crazy to tell someone hey that paper mache idea or those embellishment ideas you’ve been trying to pull of can actually be a toilet paper craft. That’s right, you can made 3d paper craft embellishments for your junk journals with TOILET PAPER!
I’ve show another IOD mould tutorial before so I won’t go into heavy detail but I will say this makes easy handmade embellishments that are so incredibly detailed. So if you’re looking for an easier way to make a journal embellishment then you’re in the right place, learning how to make DIY embellishments has never been this easy.

Sometimes I like this process better than clay as I feel it gives more of a vintage look once dried. I pop mine in the oven for a little over an hour at 200° and it dries super fast 👍

I tried this last week. It really works. U can also use hot glue, my grandkids made their mom a hot glue rose with glitter and we put a magnet on the back. It was her Valentines gifts
Gina, this is so stunning! I recently found you on tik tok because I love paper crafts!!! I got myself several of these IOD moulds for Christmas including the Frames Mould & this is EXACTLY what I am going to do for some spring crafts!!!! I think you could speed up your drying time on a low oven temp since you can bake in the moulds!

I have been crafting a long time as well. So awesome to see new ideas.
FYI, the best hot glue that I use is gorilla glue hot glue stick.
I started using them last year. I use less glue and it has great bonding.

I used to love being creative (cross stitch, crochet, colouring, upcycling, etc.). Made some stuff for cosplay outfits too. But since I lost the vision in my left eye and the central vision in my right, I just don't do it anymore. I'll watch you instead 😂

Yes you can totally do that! People also use coffee filters to do this or tissue paper, I just chose toilet paper 💕

Could just use either just the toilet paper or paper towels? Or do you have to use the combination? Thank you fir sharing it looks wonderful. Especially on those days when you just don't have enough clay.

Where do you get your silicone molds?
Could I use my Springerle cookie molds which are hard resin. I want to make Christmas ornaments.
It depends on the material they are made from, I don’t think I would suggest this process with anything not made from silicone

Looks like it's like paper mache. So you could use flour and water.
It’s similar but paper mache is a little more fragile. This is very sturdy. Also that method would make more of a mess.

I work with polymer clay and wonder if these would survive a 275degree oven for about an hour.
I’ve been told that 200 degrees is a good temp to do it with!
