I'm glad Ford came out with the Ecoboost. I've been a fan of turbos every sense I drove an 82 automatic 280zx turbo 180hp.
To my fellow Ford F-150 guys.... I have owned a 2004 5.4 a 2013 5.0 and now a 2013 3.5 and loved each one way over 100000 miles with no issues. I have a lot of mechanical experience and know trucks from the 60s to know. I would say the 3.5 is awesome in its own right. It dose beat the 5.0. I'll trade this one in when they put out a 5.0 ecoboost!
+Reuben Joyner The new ecoboost motor is not bad for american technology - it may be faster than the 5.0 - but who buys a truck to go fast? Are you one of those guys that has a tonneau cover on all the time to haul your groceries around?
My truck is driven when i need a truck, it only hauls or tows things around - not including groceries. I have a built 460 big block in an old f350 dually - has to be one of the slowest vehicles I've ever owned but could pull your house down.. A truck with enough horsepower to move itself down the expressway but not enough torque to haul/pull anything bigger than a small pop-up camper is pretty useless in my opinion.
Im with you - a 5.0 ecoboost would be the motor to have.
Hell, even some of these small diesel engines would be better than a small gas engine.

.... a 2003 Ford expedition with a 5.4. and a 2013 Ford F150 ecoboost. Previous trucks are 2004 f150 5.4 2006 f450 6.0 2008 f350 6.4 2013 Ford f150 5.0. A stock 460 has 220 horse power and 380 foot-pounds of torque. Now compare that to a little 3.5 ecoboost. 360 horsepower and 420 foot-pounds of torque. I love my old dump truck but damn I wish it would pull like my ecoboost.
I wasn't a believer just like you but then I drove one and now I own one and use it every day. it's like having the 5.0 and the 6.4 in the same truck. "Not bad for American technology."
Reuben Joyner Well i have driven a few new ecoboost trucks around, and they are quick, but so were colorados and ragers and they couldnt pull their own head out of their asses, let alone a big trailer. I have asked customers how they liked the pulling capabilities and none of them seemed overly impressed (lots of hills here) I've been told they get about the same mileage without the power when pulling campers and things like that, but were great for farting around town doing non truck related things. BUT i dont own one and have never pulled with one so i cant say from personal experience. I would be open to trying one if i didn't need more than a half ton.
If those ecoboost are so great, why dont they come in 3/4 or 1 ton trucks ?
Your argument doesn't make any sense at all. Say a V8 460 has 360 ponies and 420 ft-lbs of torque and its pulling 5,000 pounds vs. an boost with the same horsepower and torque pulling the same trailer should pull nearly identical. Horsepower and torque doesn't care if its coming out of an I-4, V6, V8, V10, etc.. 500 ft-lbs of torque is 500 ft-lbs of torque. The reason they aren't in 3/4 and 1 ton pick ups is because the new 6.7 Powerstroke makes 440 HP and 925 ft-lbs of torque IIRC, you aren't going to make that in a V6 gas reliably.

I just bought a 2016 F-150 ecoboost 165 Saturday. My neighbor ask why did i buy a V6. He took it for a drive and was really surprised at how power a 165 cuin twin turbo v6 could make.
My uncle has an fx2 eco that would give yall a good run with out the spray.. Last time we went to the track it ran a 13.1

i love the 3.5, but if i wanted my truck to drag race i would get a 5.0 and toss a roush blower on it and push better times. seems alot less time consuming and maybe even cheaper in the long run. ( Plus you get a v8 rumble :) really cool build though!

What are the 1/4 mile times at above 5,000ft elevation?
Its a turbo, so elevation is not as big of a factor as NA vehicles. The wastegate just dumps less to give the engine more air.
NOS on an Ecoboost?? Got to be a safer method of going mid 12's!!!! Make it without bottle, don't need a shot to spool it up, just brake torque it!!! I love the juice, don't get me wrong, but have you seen the prices on an ecoboost long block if you pop it??? How about getting rid of those tiny G-15's Turbos and putting bigger ones!!! Has anyone put different turbo's on them? I know FULL RACE out of Phoenix AZ did a large single turbo conversion on one for SEMA, but I want to see bigger twins!!!! Good luck!!! I hate the sound of v6s but the power potential out of of one is fantastic. I'm torn with my decision to like the eco boost engine
I was too. But I got a lifetime warranty on the turbo and engine from a dealer, so I bought one. BEST thing I have ever done. It's a terrific engine. Had four V-8's before it. They were wimpy engines compared to this thing.
How long or many miles is your lifetime warranty?
For as long as I own the vehicle....no limit on miles OR time. It is NOT transferable if I sell it. It took virtually all the risk out of the purchase of the turbo.

The biggest problem with the EcoBoost V-6 3.5 liter is reliability,the V-8 is more reliable over the long term.Especially when you price out how much it will cost to fix repair and maintain the twin turbo system and this more than makes up for your fuel savings over the long haul...moral of the story: fewer moving parts,longer durability,your choice.
I'll stick with my 5.8 liter 351 V-8.
Oh please! I have 247,000 km on my 2011 ecoboost and only a failed coil pack at anything over 10lbs of boost so far. My very first pickup was a '91 F250 with dual tanks. It was a pig on fuel. This is the new age!

Nope EFI Windsor and they were considered "better on fuel".... On a good day I would get 12 mpg and that was a single cab 2wd

I heard that everyone is trading in there f-150 at 120k miles due to the dual timing chains wear out so fast and getting worst gas millage then an older v8..a bunch of other garbage with the engine too..
what's sad is that the 25yr old gmc cyclone still makes better numbers on the quarter mile using a single turbo then the ecoboost...
+you and yourself - I am one that dumped my 2012 Ecoboost @ 100k mi. Too many future problems and expensive repairs to keep it as long as I had originally intended. About the 26 year old GMC Syclone, uh, that truck STILL has numbers that NO stock truck has even come close to matching. It's largest detraction would be that it's payload was limited to 500 lbs and towing was NOT recommended. Same goes for the turbocharged 4.3L GMC Typhoon (S10 Blazer body). I still really like both of those little turbo trucks but they can hardly be compared due to their extremely limited versatility when placed against a 4-door, full-sized truck that can tow around 15,000 lbs or haul more than 3,000 lbs of payload.

A 12.80 is the fastest ecoboost? Really? Someone needs to do this to a tremor and see what the weight difference would do. There's guys out there with the new 5.3s running 11.90s N/A.
This video is old. They ran later with batmo wheels installed and hit 12.20 @ 109. They claim that it is easily an 11sec truck.. They needed to refine the tune, but the class they were running in didn't allow for any tuning changes at the track. They haven't been back to the track since from what I've seen.

Jeremy Pennington Fastlane has a customer that went 11.96 with a 2014 Sierra. It was fully bolted with heads and a cam on E85. It made 438whp. Not sure if nitrous was used for that time, but it makes 438whp off the juice.
To hit 11.9's NA, that Sierra had to have been spraying. No way 11.9's na with a stock block 5.3. The 2014's are putting down good power though
GreyChevy01 Yeah the more I think about it, the more it makes sense that it was spraying. My 2014 rcsb sierra has run a best of 12.93 and it's cammed and bolted making 391whp. I wish I knew what what thier nitrous setup is because I have a NX 75 kit to go on over the winter. I'm hoping to be low to mid 12's after.

You people hating n the coboost crack me up. I was always a v8 guy too until I found out the 3.5 comes stock eith 420 ft/lbs of torque. I can tow more than any of the equivalent v8s and I get much better gas mileage too. So explain to me again why I would by a thirsty v8 that isnt as powerful, fuel efficient or as fast as my twin turbo v6?
You have the right question and you are right. I agree. Hands down that in any other country ,BUT the US, you get pickup trucks that makes slightly less power but way more efficient on fuel ,but pulls just as great as the big bad v8s. I don't want anyone trolling on me for saying this and i can only say before you do , go check the rest of the world for pickups , that v8s are over rated and gas monsters.. they do sound great but then to me that is all there is to it. Sure for my work we have 7 trucks and all v8s, but holy shit. at 14-15 mpg NOT pulling and dropping to 8 - 10 mpg if pulling is just NUTS... I like the introduction of the new ford eco boost and i hope that people notice this.

Shawn dessart: you may need to read up on the Syclones ...it seems you're not aware of what they do apparently, the numbers you quoted are for stock Syclones and the 12's for the eco-boost are definitely not stock. Mild modified Syclones run in the 12s and high 11's

Wow... thats fast considering they barely did anything! would be interesting to see what HP numbers and how much NOS they are running. Bigger Turbo's! And they don't really seem to be launching that hard...
In the video above the truck was making around 500 whp and 550 lb/ft tq. We were running a 50 hp dry nitrous shot, which is included in the power numbers I just quoted.We launch the truck around 1500 RPM, and cut consistent 1.6-1.7 60' times. Any higher than that and the turbos spool so quickly that it just blows the tires off.
The truck has run a best of 12.23, now, with upgraded Bullseye Power Compressor wheels, and 125 hp, wet nitrous shot using E85 for the nitrous. The truck makes nearly 600 whp now with the nitrous.
