I am an MIT PhD also. Agree 100% what you said. MIT's biggest gift to me was how to think about problems. If one does not know how to think about a problem, then you cannot begin to solve it congratulations! I am also Chinese, I believe we should teach this skill to more of our people.
you are pretty arrogant. What have done that merits attention? How many languages do you know enough to speak and read? How many degrees in technology and business you have? And from what top ranked universities and from where? I have authored four books. One published by Oxford University Press that has been translated into Russian, Korean and Chinese. Li Peng wrote the foreword for the Chinese translation. He thought the Chinese people could learn something from me. I was consultant and research scientist at MIT. I have taught in Spanish, and English around the world, and in Chinese to Chinese Universities, e.g. Fudan, JiaoTong, Tsing Hua, China Natural Science Foundation, Beijing Science Technology Organization, whatever. As VP for IBM China, I was the first Secretary General for the IBM Technology Cooperation Committee. I transferred IBM high technology to China in over two dozen projects, which China was the beneficiary. China first IC pilot line at Ching Hua University came from my group, $50,000,000 dollar donation to Chinese Universities in computers and software also came from my group, PC board manufacturing technology transfer to China, China Standards for PC Software with China's National Standards Group, China purchasing Chinese electronic parts when no one in the world wanted to do so, PC national distribution and service network in China. I did all that because I thought I could help China and because I have great affection for China. Before you make sarcastic remarks, look at yourself in the mirror and think about what have you done. Little bit of knowledge makes the frog at the bottom of the well think it has seen something. I pity you.
Didn't do well in the midterm .. I felt frustrated and I felt like not good enough ..This is inspiring!! I started phd in 2019 and still cared too much about my grade.. sigh
Same here in my first couple of terms... Try not to absorb all the pressure just by yourself, friends and family can help a lot in moments like this. You got this!
About 25 to 30 years ago I worked in engineering companies where I met many coworkers who graduated from top colleges in China. My impressions of them were poor, very poor, in that they didn't know how to handle themselves. This video gave me a contrary impression. I am glad.
If you don't mind, Malaysian here too and will be going to the US for my next job. If you want to have more choices after getting your PhD, the US is the number 1 choice. The COVID and other issues are comparatively minor compared to where to get your PhD.
@@weitingtan6405 I am not saying they are not health-related. What I am trying to convey is that PhD is a big investment and where you did your PhD when you are up for that tenure-track job is important. Good luck anyway.

Kai
