Marcus never deserved this he tried saving His father also known as the most reliable and smartest person on the COG. He was the one to make the Hammer of Dawn

He also caused hundreds of soldiers death, so...yeah. He deserves it.
Correction:The UIR developed the Hammer. When the COG learned about it, they launched an assault that would eventually result in a deal with the scientific team developing and a total system memory wipe. What was unknown,except to a few, was there were still usable UIR prototype Hammer hardware systems located elsewhere. Specifically, a package in the UIR Cosmodrome in G5.
It was still desertion, would have happened that way in real life too
Marcus valued brothership and loyalty above all, a man truly worthy of respect.
The fact that Hoffman called Adam Fenix was "useless" shows just how in the dark he truly was
That he was merely a "simple scientist", only to turn out to be the one who helped end the war
In the comics hoffman knew adam fenix perfected the hammer of dawn. I think he tried to motivate marcus but LMAO what a bad way to go about it.
Thinking about making an in depth breakdown review of the first Gears game and explain to modern audiences why it was so good. Been loving your videos while I gather footage!

I think its the simple case of it being the first game and them not knowing how indepth and successful the game would eventually become, so they introduced it through Marcus's eyes to help the player feel like they are experiencing things at the same time Marcus is so there is no confusion. I agree though, there are some head scratching moments for sure. Happens in Halo too, but with Halo, Cortana is usually delivering the exposition and Chief is silent allowing the player to experience this information first hand. Halo clearly does this better because both Chief and the player are experiencing being on the Halo ring for the first time together.

Ironically, Marcus choosing his father, years prior, help end the war. If he hadn't disobeyed Hoffman, Adam may have been killed, taken by the locust, or not in the position required for Prescott to find him and take him to Azura.
Not really, since the locust would have used him as they were before e day.
Having read The Slab, yeah, Marcus brought this on himself. And he even knew it at the time. Pleading guilty and all. Dom, ever loyal, tried but there was no way to free him via legal means. It was only cause they needed as much manpower as they could that Marcus was brought back into the COG Army.
And even then he was the last one out because Hoffman left him to rot
@@Reaper419Darkangel Not exactly. The prison was overrun by Wretches. Marcus was together with Millton Reeve, and the two got separated form the group. Reeve was the one to lock Marcus in that cell. To save him cause he's got Grubs to kill. No idea what became of Reeve.

There was likely a strong enough beam or support bar above and he was only pinned. Prescott knew about the coming before this point and more than likely had sufficient reason to believe he was alive still. Incidents like this can happen in our world, too.
Eventually Hoffman does apologize to Marcus for leaving him in the slab. I was happy when he showed some care for Marcus

This was just the video I needed! I recently got back into Gears after years of missing everything after the first game, and starting the game from the top the first question I had was "Why was he in prison again??"

In 3 Marcus narrated that he never blamed the COG for this.. And Hoffman seems to have forgiven him

He's was arrested for saving his father
He was arrested for deserting, stealing military hardware, attacking a superior officer, getting a bunch of other COGs killed, and causing a major defeat. Plus he failed to save his dad so it was all for nothing. Something Marcus knows is true.
