@@gledatelj1979the R2 will have single (rear) motor, dual motor, and tri-motor. all at the 300 mark. RJ confirmed with MKBHD that they will have an additional single motor variant with sub-300 range.

I was really looking forward to the R2, but it’s the R3 I actually want!
When I think of R2/R3 competitor, the Model Y doesn't come to mind. I think of the Ford Bronco, Jeeps and Subarus, these are the vehicles that give off the same vibe as the Rivians.
Why does it feel like an Apple event or product? There’s something about the design and UI in these cars that have me sold. Looks like a car made by Apple.
Agreed, I'm actually surprised that Apple hasn't made a move on Rivian yet ... I guess they want to wait for it to be on the brink of death so they can buy it at an insanely low price.

had my reservation in during the reveal livestream. would love an R1, but can't justify the expense. this is perfect for my family needs and doesn't feel like a compromise.

I own Tesla Model 3, but looking at Rivian R2, I feel like Tesla is not making enough to remain competitive in the market. Tesla should be introducing new features faster & with better quality, otherwise it will loose market.
Personally, my next EV could be R2 actually. I love the look of it, the price & features that it has.

RJ explained on a podcast that the charge port on the R2 was intentionally placed near the battery pack in the rear to reduce high voltage cable needed as there are single motor rear wheel drive variants and this will help cut costs .. I’m fine with the charge port location in exchange for a $45,000 starting price BEFORE the $7500 ira credit yes it’s $37,500(!!!)
It’s on the wrong side, if they plan to use Tesla network, they would block another car from the parking spot
Superchargers are being retrofitted with longer cables in order to accommodate all the various configurations so don’t worry about it
My wife and I are throwing a reservation at the R2. The R3 is 100% inspired by the MkII Golf. Check out that C pillar and tell me I'm wrong. Pulls from the spirit of the Golf Country model from the 90s

Rivian is almost banckrupt. They need a lot of money to put R2 and R3 in the market at a decent price. I gave them max 10% to succeed this
Thy have $7.5billion (enough for two years of cap ex), and now saving another $2+ billion by halting new factory - no where near bankrupt.

But with the charger port on the passenger side rear, rivian owners will take up the charger on the passenger side since the cables are like 4ft long, meaning vehicles with charge ports on the driver's side (all Teslas) cannot use any superchargers when parked on the passenger side of a rivian like they normally would. Rivian owners consume 2 Tesla supercharger parking spots...

Great, more competition for Tesla, assuming Rivian stays in business. They should move the NACS port to driver side or middle (license plate area) for Tesla supercharging network.
I know they will stay in business because I just bought $10k of their stock. When my R2 arrives it will be worth enough to buy it.

What I don’t understand why NACS was installed on the wrong side should be left back not right back, makes not to much sense 🙃 they want to make charging journey difficult or was it a mistake that they will fix
What does it matter? Everyone's installing longer cords at faster chargers. V4 Tesla has a longer cord. Tesla is even making an extension cord.

Chris, I'm like you and own a Tesla. I reserved an R2 also. Do you know if you have to pay the monthly charge/ 30% higher to use the Supercharger Network ?
Yes. It’s vehicle specific.
I noticed you said you’re 6’3”. I’m the same height. The problem I have with Teslas is that the B pillar is too far forward. I own a model S, I’ve rented a model 3 for 4 weeks and I’ve test driven a model Y. With all of them, with the seat all the way back, which is my comfortable driving position, my shoulder hits the B pillar getting in or out. It helps with the crash test rating, but it is annoying for me as a tall driver. Do you experience the same thing? And do you experience that in the R1T? And did you get to sit in the R3 to see if that is an issue?
Two years is a long time to roll it out. Competition wise they are in trouble, Toyota RAV4 hybrid awd starts at 35k. They have to reduce prices to compete….
I'm hoping they get it ready within a year and match those Model Y prices
Critiques:
1. The rear glass is directly a page out of Fisker ocean, you really will never drive like that on freeway , it also brings the dust and smoke in.
2. The front seats have no side bolstering and are flat.
2. The NACS port is a welcome change, but the location next to rear wheel well rather than at belt line is a huge miss. When you will go to open it will be full of mud and dirt as that part of the car gets very dirty. Putting it higher would have solved it and also not putting it on the drivers side is a huge problem for Tesla supercharging.
I’m sorry but the rear glass is a feature right out of Detroit 1968.
The rear glass down has been a beloved and problem free feature of the Toyota 4Runner and Tundra for many years. Unless you’ve owned a vehicle and driven with it, you are just guessing and spreading FUD.
Definitely taking this over the tesla. Wish Rivian would partner with Apple for software now that they're not making their own car anymore.

Good product is not enough unfortunately. There has to be production at scale to lower the final cost for clients. And this is very hard. Cybertruct also was presented for lower price that was on delivery, and different spec. On Rivian will be the same, it is inevitable.
It's shorter than a Model Y, not bigger
The Tesla model Y is like a swiss army knife electric car from Tesla, frunk storage, rear storage, optional third road and ample of space inside. I think Rivian missed making the R2 their swiss army knife like the model Y. I would be surprised if a Tesla comes out with a model Y version in Cybertruck design as a SUV with 45k price tag.
2022 seemed too far off, yet here is Rivian. It will be here beyond 2026. They are quality minded vs. quantity 1st. Nothing built by human hands is perfect. How many companies can say that nowadays.

@@stevewilson6193 touche... But I think it's different because EV camping is using the battery to camp inside the car with climate control on... I don't think people sleep with their gas car running overnight...
It's called planning. I have an R1T, Quad motor and have gone camping with it. You plan accordingly - drive in conserve mode to the destination, put the thing in camp mode, be mindful of overall usage and enjoy your time with nature.
And let's be honest, even with its lowest range you are looking at 313 miles on a full charge.
Who is really going that far off grid that they won't have 100 miles or so to spare to make it to some kind of charging station?
R3 is not "its own segment". He called it what it is, a crossover.
I have a Tesla that I can't wait to dump. I also put down a reservation for the R2. But I am still a bit disappointed by the lack of efficiency in the R2. I may have to spring for the Macan..

Mercedes, BMW, Hyundai, Porsche are all getting better at the efficiency game and even surpassing Tesla in some cases (Lucids being the market leader here) and they haven't even introduced their next Gen power trains yet. Not to mention the Chinese companies who are every further along..
R2 is not even going to be at the level these guys are today let alone beating Tesla or Lucids efficiency today. That's disappointing for a next Gen platform.

That is Rivian signature. I like it and it makes sense that they aren’t round as they are led.
@@rcpmac The car is boxy so the lights should be boxy as well. There is just mismatch of the body and lights. I know it's their signature but they are not established and should be flexible.

In 2026 it will not be 45000 just like the tesla CT.
If the company survives to 2026 given the nose dive the their stock has taken , I can promise you that this car will not be 45k.
