- Ironwood is a city in Gogebic County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is the westernmost city in Michigan. Ironwood is home of the "World's Tallest Indian," a 52 ft fiberglass statue of tribal leader Hiawatha. Ironwood was settled in the spring of 1885. The town was incorporated as a village in 1887 and as a city on April 8, 1889. Ironwood is located within the now inactive Gogebic Iron Range. Iron ore was found in the area in the 1870s. The arrival of the railroad in the mid-1880s gave an impetus to more extensive development of the area's ore deposits. Several mines, such as the Norrie, Aurora, Ashland, Newport, and Pabst, were opened in Ironwood.

My mom, dad and other family were from Ironwood so I spent half my life in Ironwood. It's a beautiful place with great people and I'm thinking about buying a place there when I retire.
There's a ton of history there I enjoyed learning about.
such a nice video, thank you for sharing this.
Thank you too
Wow, interesting place. I am somewhat familiar with Michigan towns but not this one. I guess it's way up in the UP.
Way North! - and the furthest western town in MI.
But, where are all the people? Aren t there malls and so on? How many inhabitants are there
in Ironwood?
It’s a pretty small town.
No malls nothing not even fast food no kidding that’s one reason I’m not there anymore
@@michelejashinsky8409 - Yeah I can see it being a pretty depressing place for a younger person or anybody for that matter. They say there’s a lot of right wing militias that hide out and train up in the woods up there.
Ironwood - Old World Charm or in desperate need of economic development?
Socioeconomic development sorely lacking it’s an old mining town the mines closed a long time ago…. Lotsa drugs bc there’s not much to do and winter lasts forever
@@michelejashinsky8409 - The cannabis dispensary is probably the biggest revenue generator in Ironwood!
