- If you've ever tried to change colors in Photoshop, you might have found it pretty easy when changing one color into another color. The problem is that when you try to use hue adjustments on black, they don't actually make any difference. In this Photoshop tutorial, you'll learn an effective way to change the color of black using a color fill layer, a special layer blending mode, and a levels adjustments. That way you can add a hue and saturation value to the black color, making it possible to switch it into a completely new color.

Nice tutorial, Brendan. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed!
Very helpful tutorial👍🏼
You're the man!
is it possible to make the red (or any other) color less looking like a chrome color wrap when changing color on black car?
Thank you!
Great!
Thank u
thanks Brendan.
No problemo!
Not totally related, but kind of. Do you know if there is a way to replace a color used across multiple layers?
For example if color A is used in a font, a shape, a color fill, a gradient, etc. is there a fast way to replace all areas of a certain hex code?
An example would be similar to how MS PowerPoint has their color pallette in master slides. Or how you can replace a color across all pages in Canva.
Very helpful as always ❤✊ Will you start making compositing videos again soon?
Well I did just publish a video about blending images in photoshop the other day. For now I'm focusing on the helpful techniques to make editing in Photoshop and Lightroom easier. However, I will circle back and start discussing composite step-by-steps more in the future (because they are a lot of fun). What types of videos are you thinking of?
@@BrendanWilliamsTutorials maybe a video about adding depth and atmosphere to a composite. Anyway, your videos are great keep it up and good luck!
dobry tutorial diky.
thank u man
Happy to help
That's wuz up .. Thank You!
Chya brah 🙌🏻
is there a fast way to change any color to black? while using the laso tool or whatever?
Not that I am aware of unfortunately. Since you aren’t just changing the hue of a color it becomes more complicated
@@BrendanWilliamsTutorials I tried this but i'm not sure what i did wrong. I follow your steps, currently trying to change a dark brown picture to a light brown but it just lightens it and doesn't change the color.
it also wont let me duplicate my lair, when i drag it it says replace layer mask?
and also i'm new to using the cropping tools so is it possible or how would i go back and do the hair piece by piece if i don't wanna do it all in one?
Why is my color turning to black when I change the setting from normal to color when I have a light gray color selcted
Didn't work
Good tutorial. One suggestion, clip the mask to the layer below rather than duplicating the mask.
That would only adjust the color fill. Since you want to brighten the actual subject (aka the car) you don’t want to use a clipping mask. You’ll get a different result.
