How to Change Color of an Object from White to Black and Vice-Versa in Photoshop

- Making a white object black is one of the most challenging tasks to do in Photoshop, however, in this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to swap the colors with much ease. Since these two colors are totally opposite of each other, there will certainly be some limitations and precautions we need to take care of which we will discuss in this video.
Changing colors between reds, greens, blues, yellows or oranges is easy, which can be done by changing the hues. Besides, you can change the color selectively, not having to make a selection. But in this case, since white is something which is present in every color and so is black, set aside selection, it becomes a really tricky job to even change it to some other color.
Before doing anything, you must make sure that the image you are starting with is of high quality. By high quality, I mean high resolution and high bit depth. Otherwise, the effect will turn out to be very pixelated. I hope you enjoy and use this awesome and cool Photoshop effect in your images, especially in composites and manipulations. THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this video. I’m assuming you’re using CS6? The object I’m trying to make all black is going to be a photo manipulation of my dog. My husky mix, Strider, is almost entirely white with a black mask. Without a tablet, I feel so limited as far as what artistic projects I can do. I thought of just sketching and scanning but chances are I would have too much to doctor and go blind trying. Using a mouse to do really intricate work is a nightmare I don’t need so I’ll take any shortcuts I can get.
I haven’t been able to figure out how to change his white areas to black and maintain the texture of his fur, which I later plan to highlight with a sort of sheen/glossiness (like an almost iridescent sheen that blackbird feathers have). His eyes, I’d like to color red and add a glowing effect. He has heterochromia (two different colored eyes) so I would probably want to make both eyes as light and close to the same shade as possible before making them red...I assume. I am used to CS3 lol and it’s been a long time since I’ve meddled with digital editing. Would I use the same methods for the extra details mentioned (not just selecting and changing white to black) or would I need to do something more complicated?
Basically I’m trying to turn my dog into a hellhound. I’m making a horror channel and the hellhound is sort of my mascot (the way a bunny is my “mascot” for this account I’m currently using). I figured since I have countless photos of my dog that I could probably find a suitable pose and build off of it, add a background, my channel name, and move on. I could sketch, color, and scan an illustration on paper, but manipulating a photo seems so much easier.

Ever think about shadows and highlights? Simply inverting the colors would mean you'll get white shadows and black highlights.

Question: Anyone know why I don't see "Select and Mask" when I use same selection tool as he does in this video.. It shows everything but that? Anyone know how to get that to show up on the menu bar? I've already checked the "Select" menu bar for Select and Mask, but it's not even there in the drop down menu at all??? This is literally a useless good tutorial if I can't get that.... hey....i have a problem with my photoshop.
whenever i open a colour photo it gets converted into a black a white photo.....and i am not able to change it......but if i directly open the image it remains the same(colour image). But if i open it in some saved sheet it opens like a black and white pic.
what do i do for this.
change the mode maybe? image > mode > RGB
Don't do the dirty "blend if"-trick to "recover" details the darkest shadows like he's showing (it ends up with inverted unnatural shadows). Just do a better Curves adjustment. He is just moving in the black point and clipping everything to solid black - that is very bad as you are throwing away all those details (might as well have been using Levels). Make it more gradual towards the shadows so it doesn't clip so suddenly!

Do you have a selection tool selected? It will *only* appear if you are using the marquee or lasso tool. Also it's a CC feature.
what version is your photoshop? i think this feature only available above 2016 version

When i pulled the slider over to make it black it turned into a nasty navy blue black and it covered the picture like an overlay. what do I do?
Figured it out from playing with it. For some white objects you may not need to take it all the way to the right to turn it black. I also had to play with the vertical slide bar which adjust the shine thats on it to get a solid color black. Its kind've like driving a manual car, theres a sweet spot for the perfect black

What colors makes straight black and straight white? Or pure . Some body tell " me " something About the dark colors of darkness and the light. Every body think they know! But to me black is not darkness because their are many colors that makes up the darkness. And white is not light.
