- Roy Makaay - is perhaps slightly unlucky in as much as he played in the same era as several Dutch greats and so finds his legacy not quite as prominent as it would have been in almost any other era.
Roy Makaay finished his career with an average of around a goal every 2 games. Before Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo redefined goalscoring, a career ratio of one in two was considered pretty good.
For someone who operated at the same time as Raul, Ronaldo and a young Samuel Eto'o in Spain. It was never going to be easy to shine. However, his trophy collection and goal ratio will surely speak about his skills. Pace, power and a predacious instinct inside the area, Makaay was one of the finest forwards of the decade. - Sport
Roy was the best striker playing for Deportivo La Coruña . Maximum effectiveness , lethal ending to goal . Better than Bebeto or Diego Tristan . I'll never forget him .
Roy was such a great talent to watch
Yeah, and it's a shame that he is forgotten
I recently got a Roy Makaay shirt last week to be fair.
I remember him, Djalminha, Fran and Tristain that was a deadly attack.
You missed Walter Pandiani and Juan Carlos Valerón... 😊
Diego Tristan goal machine in his prime at deportivo.. older Mario Silva in midfield.. Tristan was better than Walter pandiani at deportivo djalmiha also when happy was different class genius at times but not the best attitude.. but with the ball on the pitch could do things some of the greats couldn't.. another forgotten talent
When I was 9 years old I saw Makaay make his debut at Vitesse. When he left for Tenerife 4 years later (with Ferdy Vierklau), I was very concerned about who would score the goals for Vitesse. Makaay left and that apparently cleared the way for Nikos Machlas. The Greek was not even allowed to stand in Makaay's shadow in his year with Makaay. But the season after Makaay left, he scored continuously and became Europe's top scorer. I have always followed Makaay and I was extremely proud of his success at Deportivo and Bayern. I have always regretted that Makaay did not end his career at Vitesse. Towards the end of his career he said in interviews that he still had feelings for my beautiful club and that he might want to end it with us. Unfortunately that didn't happen.
Us Bayern fans will never forget Roy. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. Even if some of us didn't watch his time at Bayern.
HIS COMBINATION WITH DIEGO TRISTAN WAS DEADLY...
The fact that this video only has 1.8k views in 4 months, proves that the streets actually forgot Roy Makaay...
Well maybe it also has something to do with my channel being small, but yeah I think most of the people forgot him and it's shame that we did because he had a great career.
An amazing striker. He should have never lost his place to D.Tristán who was a fine striker but not at Roy's level.
I didn't forget 🇱🇹 Can you do a videos of Gheorghe Hagi and Hristo Stoickov, they are also underrated and forgotten.
I will probably do a video about Stoichkov and Hagi at some point, but you have to wait because I already have a few videos in process
Suarez before suarez
Yeah, he looked like Suarez and he could score like him.
the same instinct but with a different bite XD
nice title
Thanks
Makaay also had one other disadvantage , he was a great club player , but could not deliver in the dutch national team . As hist type of play style and how the dutch national team plays didnt match .
We will never ever have strikers like him again, now we have Weghorst, Memphis, Gakpo😂😂😂😂😂
