VW BUS Abandoned 52 YEARS in Woods - Rare 15 Window Deluxe Kombi Type 2 Found in Stream First Sight

- Rare 15 window Vw Bus found in a stream with a 1958 pressed bumper 11 window Bus behind it. Come along with Mustie1, Josh, Matt and myself as we check out forgotten cars parked over 50 years. These Volkswagen's have been abandoned for over 50 years! Vehicles on the forgotten property have license plate tags 1971 or earlier. Somehow the huge tree that fell in between the Kombi did not crush them! This type 2 rescue could the hardest one I have ever attempted. It's an 8 hour round trip alone, never mind the labor and craft this is going to take to get the rusty vehicles out in one piece.

The great American VW hunters in their natural environment.
It’s just nice being in that beautiful country man its pretty up there 😊
The blue Kombi has the front bumper that I need!
As a poor person who’s grown up poor and would never imagine having the volume of vehicles or the land they sit on, I struggle to understand how on earth things like this happen. How someone can have so many things to let waste away. If I’m not using something I don’t horde, I offer up to those who would. Maybe that’s a flaw on my part, but I would certainly rather I do that then to let things turn into this. :(
Yeah it boggles my mind too--too easy to sell them off before they get too bad, rusty and crusty and it pays to watch the trends as to what the restoration and mods market is going after and what has become a new classic. VW's have been desirable since the 80s. There's no excuse for it unless it is mental illness or that hoarding affliction.
Back when these vehicles were at the end of their life cycle, you would have to pay the junk yard to take a vehicle off your hands.
So, because it cost money, it was cheap if you had a farm or a lot of land just to dump it on unproductive land. People also weren't as environmentally aware back then either.
In fact, the government had brochures showing how to arrange junk cars on stream banks to help alleviate erosion.
Nowadays they pay you tin scrap price and you can get a few hundred dollars for a junk vehicle.
Good luck with the rescue. Looking forward to see them both out of there and saved...
Wow man, really amazed how you manage to find these "treasures" 😳
Dude this is going to be such an awesomely epic rescue!!! Hell yeah Rad Dude!!!
wow the extent you go to rescue these buses! Best of luck
Cor blimey !!! You have got some work to do there getting them buses out , best of luck. I will be watching from my comfy sofa. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and healthy 🇬🇧
Another epic find!
Good Luck, That is going to be one wild Rescue ! Can't Wait.
Just started watching this one but Damn, extra Mustie1 action this week!
Busses in the stream, that is what we are, trees grow in between, and some mossy logs, Mustie1’s with me and Josh came along,…”Kenny and Dolly”
this looks like it will be epic! love the truck parade too.
awesome as always.thanks for sharing and taking us along.
thank you and thank you for coming along :)
Wow and Woah and holy smokes that is a double tough misssion to get those out of there (wish I could help and would love to if I get time off in spring).
No problem getting them out in one piece when they are frozen solid! Your vehicle collection is impressively eclectic. No wonder Jen is infatuated with you!
Awesome can't wait to see the extraction!! This will be epic!!
Have Happy Thanksgiving your Family and Mustie One's Even the Helpers!!!; )
Wow, a van down by the river.
Happy TG day to all! That bus is mint..........
Great find, great video, love it.
Happy Holiday Jason.
I was only thinking just the other day 'what happened to that V8?' Now I know she was just asleep awaiting her orders! It isn't easy to tell on camera (they can all sound bad) but I would go with an exhaust leak. There may be a slight tick from the rockers but it doesn't sound that bad on idle. This could be a marathon rescue of several days so take plenty of supplies and some chargers for camera batteries! Stay safe out there in the woods Jason.
Damn that is a nice old Chevy. Will make a great tow rig, and camping setup. Can't wait to see the extraction of those buses. I've come to realize it might just be my favorite part of the old VW hobby.
Jason you made my day buddy these two buses make my junk look good 😂 great to see you and Mustie on the prowl again 🤙🍻
Mustie, the legend!!
Dude!! At this stage all your VW rescues are in much better shape than your tow pigs!! 😂😂
Cheers from Argentina!
😂🤣😭
Afternoon guys
afternoon Mr M
I saw a similar VW bus retrieval in a European country on YT where they airlifted it by helicopter. Of course they had deep pocket$ to make it happen.😊❤
Can already tell, This gonna be one hell of a rescue Jason😂
This is gonna be one heck of a yoink to get those buses out. Be the Boy Scout- Be Prepared! Good luck.
haha, yes , one heck of a yoink haha , thank you
Cheers guys
Looking forward to seeing you get these busses out of there.
Amazing! When there’s a will there is a way. Pretty cool adventure, Jay.. you’re always entertaining. Can’t wait for the sequels. You made my coffee time fun.
Hi Jed, happy to hear you enjoyed it , more soon :)
Amazing that the bus with the tree on the roof DID NOT completely collapse. Maybe that big tree SLOWLY fell over on to the bus
Team effort!!! Wow truly buried. That’s amazing how they made it back in the woods. Never saw a diesel heater like that. Be safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!
Reminds me of the old Parton/Rogers hitsong:
"Buses in the stream
That is what we want
Just one tree between
How can this go wrong?"
Also "Ol' bus river"
The river clearly runs, buses might too :)
now i'm singing Buses in a stream🤣
@@5150mxVW 😁❤
"Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in between
How can we be wrong?"
Chevy 454 Lifter stuck from sitting. Change the oil and put an oil additive in there along with synthetic oil. little drive might do it good.
they stopped making CD2 i think but it was the best stuff for that. maybe marvel? might work for that too. In with the engine oil.
I saw that third tree, and said “that’s never coming out of there”!
Durwood the Crustie1 in the chauffeurs seat..😂
Cool !
Come to Nashville Thursday. My mother in law is from Vermont and makes sausage stuffing. My mother made really good cornbread dressing, but stuffing.....damn!
Yes J, save that 15 window deluxe!
You need to thin the heard of non VWs down to one that’s somewhat dependable 😊
awesome video jason i cant wait to see you save them
Rule o thumb If you yank it out & it doesn't break in half & still has a shadow, Yeerrrr Guuuud Buud👌👍
yea.. good luck getting those buses out in one peice ... your going to need a bigger boat..lol cool vid!!! i dont think anything less then a bulldozer or excavator is going to touch those things
Good to see Mustie1 in your video congrats
Happy Thanksgiving 😊... always enjoy watching your channel
Jay,
Nice to see you managed to get Mustie out of his shop, and have him with you! Congrats.
Don't forget a chainsaw and maybe a week weedwacker when you go back...and bar and chain oil!
Just put a new fuel pump on the Ford...it proves the saying old Fords never die...its a beast. Put it to work. I know...I help build the F-150s.
Good luck.
“…The plan is to divert the water…”. Jason, you never make it easy on yourself. 😂 Maybe time to consolidate the towing fleet and get a newer / reliable vehicle?
Wow
You guys have some serious woods over there in the Northeast. We don't have that out west.
Now I know why you brought the huge chain saw to rescue the SO23 camper. OMG is that thing burried.
Happy Thanksgiving !!! Very interesting find.
You have a soft spot for anything VW related. No matter if it's together or a complete rust bucket😅 I think you need to buy you a piece of land and just fill it up with Volkswagens
Hâte de voir la sortie des bus de la forêt 😉👍
Mustie and 510 in one ep. Epic
there are some datsun 510's up there haha :), thank you
Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
Have a good thanksgiving Jay to u and ur family

And A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family best regards Andy.
New England, the VW graveyard that keeps on giving!
Excellent video Jason :) Mustie 1 :) , Josh :) , Robbie :) and amazing to on all vechiles in riverbank too! 1989 454 for that ALTERNATOR, plus manifold gaskets need and check water pump too may need replacement to! Happy Thanksgiving Holiday USA 🇺🇸 to!
Gravy too! 😁
buses in the stream, sounds like a dolly song ;)
Good luck -
nice job.
I love it
When Josh was a wee one, did you ever read the picture book “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”? If not, check it out and read it during a rest break (either between chopping down trees or trying to get rescue vehicles running). See if there’s any relationship between the story line of the book with the way your videos progress. 😂
Time to thin the herd! I'll save you some gravy and dressing. Stay safe and good luck!
Wow, your yard is starting to look like the woods with all those broken down vehicles!
😂😂
You've been here before. Its the one where you wouldn't turn the camera around the other way. The poor blue Kombi splat!!! A 15 window. Save it. Are you going to take a trans with you and fit it onsite? A chainsaw and winch might be good too. lol I like to be there to help you but the tyranny of distance strikes again. Me being in NZ. At least its not snowing or is that tempting fate. You have a lot of vehicles that need work LOL I'm with you in spirit.
Gluton for punishment 😂 All things considered the paint on the 15 window 😎 - whens pt 2 ?
Tamiya in Japan makes a 67 vw Beetle that’s RC that you put together as a kit I told the wife I wanted the m06 kit it’s set up like a real VW rear engine they have a rally version that’s 4wd and a monster truck bug but I dig the rear wheel drive one seems more realistic
thanks. I gotta go pee now
What a pair! The bad thing is that you only have a shell. It appears that most of the frame and floor must be replaced. This is a mission of love (for the VW bus). Interesting adventure involving two characters. (How many pine cones?)
Guess they would be worth it for all the parts that can be salvaged. How did you get the lead on these?
hi Ken, hopefully the frames are intact but it is doubtful after the SO23 camper i rescued up there . haha, i did find a pine cone in a vehicle recently :).
Started out as M.I.B. with Mr. Mustie1 and then went ............................ everywhere.
haha, just some clips from NH and the tow rig saga of what to drive back
Oh man. That Nat Geo collection might be worth something.
looks like fun to me
Beware of the swamp monster! It's waiting for you! 🦕
I have confidence in you
thank you , I needed a break after that SO23 kicked my arse
You Found some Old Pumpkin that’s been Eaten out from All Sides by Corrosion, Critters 😬🤣❄️❄️❄️🥶❄️❄️❄️👀
Well we drove it back there.
yea mustie too great vid talk about in the thick of it
Go for the '99 V10 450. Beffy, umph, power. Space for support crew or camping out.
it is nice to take on vaca to NH.... was
The old wood hand plane is an easy rescue by comparison.
I don't know how you can keep track of so many vehicles.
I'm subscribed but didn't get notified of this new video . I stumbled upon it .
You neglected to mention /show the 6 volt Beetle near these two vans .
A# 241 with full trim, wow .
I hope this time you don't throw any unobtanium parts into the bushes .
The Kombi has an original EED series generator, they're obsolete to make sure it goes to someone who can use it, easy to rebuild .
-Nate
the 1960 off in the woods was rescued in a previous video...i'll be gathering up all the left behind parts in the next trip up this week. Thank you for the heads up
Got it ~ maybe a link to the previous video ?@@5150mxVW
Do you have any idea how these vehicles end up so far in the woods ???
They need to cut the grass in this joint !
Proof: The dead don't take it with them.
😮
Last ran when parked!!
Great you two could get together was he down this way or where you up in his area.
Looks like a job for a huey air lift mission Jason hell if they can lift a pbr hell a vw shouldn't be no trouble at all.😊
I’ve been enjoying watching your videos and I think I’ve watched about all of them. I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the bus, but I’m working on a 1961 Type 1, what is the recommended spark plugs to be used. I think I read Bosch because of the thread length is shorter not allowing carbon buildup on the end of the exposed threads making it difficult to remove without damaging the head threads. Thanks for your input!
hi, thank you for the kind words....I'm an NGK guy from all my Mx bikes so ....NGK recommends BR6HS .....new BOSCH plug wires have issues staying on the bosch plugs , for that reason i use neither anymore
@@5150mxVW thank you for your help, it’s very appreciated. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
RUN
It should be a crime to do that to old VWs! That carnage was hard to see.....
well keep in mind this was over 50 years ago
It looks like there’s a house there. And, so somewhere there is a driveway? Or was? Or some solid ground where they drove up to the house? Probably you need to bring some sort of tractor down there with a bucket. And unload all that crap inside the busses.
Chainsaw everything out. And then start to drag them out. If you was wanting to save them.
It looks like there are tons of good parts on them, And must be out of the way… Because it doesn’t look like the local Hitler youth have completely destroyed them.
Very nice find indeed.
