Precisely why I'm not too big a fan of Pete Capella as his voice actor. His voice for Silver is iconic, but it makes him sound constantly angry.
This is why it's called Sonic Rivals, and not Sonic Friends. The characters doesn't want to get along because of their own "business" and for that nonsensical reason alone, they all have the same-old gameplay, and some different cutscenes. I actually 100% all 8 characters and I have to say: You will get bored after 2 of them.
Edit: Okay, I might had been too harsh, but that's how I felt after finishing the stories. If you had fun playing the whole game, then that's good! 👍

23:24 I would assume the intel came from either Tails or Rouge, since they know both the Chaotix and Silver (to some extent; I'd assume Sonic and Shadow have told them respectively)
30:32 I think the implied subtext here was that Eggman Nega basically paid Team Chaotix to arrest and dispose of Silver under the false pretense that Silver's a Chao thief, just so he could get him out of the way. Maybe he's even the one who gave them the intel about Silver in the first place, y'know, as a mission description.
Also I think they didn't lock anything behind doing all 8 stories exactly because it'd then be seen as overly tedious, so the intent is just to play as whoever you like rather than "play as everyone because you have to" like Heroes did. (And I think I can appreciate that; the only story I'd probably do twice is Silver and Espio because both are cool characters anyways, but otherwise for the others I'll like just stick to Tails and Shadow and then not even touch the Knuckles/Rouge story because I just wouldn't care)

In fact he only fought him in Knuckles Chaotix and Heroes, Eggman never exactly told him that it was his creation either, luckily Knuckles was smart enough to assume that here. So in a way, Knuckles was kinda 12 years late to the party.

I love Sonic Rivals 2. It’s a huge improvement over the first game and I love the voice acting. Race To Win is a great song too. My only issue is that these games never had a final story segment which is odd considering every game in the 2000s era did this. Even Riders and Battle had final segments embedded within different story campaigns. I wish they would have included a final part of the Ifrit breaking into their world and players getting the chance to play as every character for a fun final segment.

Tbh, this series is a work of art, the sheer amount of fun I had playing it as a child was amazing. Too sad that te PSP was killed back in 2013 and the handheld sector as a whole got killed back in 2018

Sonic Rivals needed characters who had an actual reason to fight/race/compete with each other. More antagonists, in other words. Knuckles vs. Rouge would make some sense, Knuckles guards the Master Emerald and Rouge is interested in stealing it - except they're partners in this story (would have made a lot more sense for Rouge and Shadow to be partners). Fang the Sniper would have been perfect for this series, he's an independent treasure hunter himself who seems perfectly capable of either working for Eggman or against him.
And, crazy idea, what if they'd introduced original characters in this series? Maybe Eggman (NEGA) hired a whole squad of mercenaries to work for him, and each of our heroes is pitted against each of the mercenaries at least once? Heck, maybe the rivals come from NEGA's world/time and are essentially villainous/antiheroic counterparts to the heroes of Sonic's world?
There was a lot they could have done with these games to make them more interesting and entertaining. A pity they chose to be so damn lazy and nonsensical.

Since Eggman tricked Knuckles so many times, now that if he sincerely wants his help, Knuckles won't believe him and stop Metal Sonic from advancing, why the hell is Shadow fighting Knuckles???

Kinda funny that shadow called the forest a jungle, because the exact reverse happened in SA2. Shadow’s stage was White Jungle and yet Sonic’s version of the same area was Green FOREST even though there were trees large enough to be apartment buildings and vines with the same properties as bungee jumping cords

I guess you miss one sin, which is the following: In Knuckles/Rouge story, Rouge have to race against Silver in Mystic Haunt, however, in both Silver/Espio story and Shadow/Metal Sonic story is actually a Silver vs Metal Sonic race in the same place. Is something that has been bothering for quite a time.
I get that they wanted to create as much conflict as possible in a game called Sonic Rivals, but there were SO many right ways to do it
Almost all of these races have literally no reason to take place

The worst part about the master emerald is that Knuckles doesn’t even have an option for why he doesn’t have a defense system, he knows Sonic and Tails personally, if he needs a break just ask one of them to help out

as someone who played rivals 2 for a long time yeah this video is the entirely true but I do want to point out that in the main story of the game outside of Silver and Espio the only useful thing anyone else does to save the world is Sonic/Tails when they find a hidden room and release the chao from it thus not allowing Eggman Nega to feed them to the Ifrit. Sonic and Tails are so clueless to the main story that they don't even know that it is Eggman Nega and not regular Eggman. also what even was the purpose of having Knuckles in this game he did absolutely nothing to the main story everyone else did at least one thing to affect the story, Rouge collected the chaos emeralds, Sonic and Tails released the chao, Shadow and Metal Sonic destroyed Metal Sonic 3.0 and Silver and Espio who literally did 99% of the work seriously in the final cutscenes for every character the only ones that talk to Nega are Silver and Espio

Trying to get the gold stars for the missions is a pain though cos I can't find any decent guides for gold star requirements online, the only remote "guide" I've seen is on the game's page on Sonic News Network, and even then the requirements listed there are actually wrong!

You know I had an idea for a Sonic Rivals 3 that has a focus on a tournament with Sonic’s story having him coach his friends and having the other story focus on the other characters participating in the tournament.

@@MarioSonicBee Mmm, interesting premise, but those all seem like some weak (or at least surface level) motivations tbh. The story of the Rivals games was always centered around some approaching world ending event that throws the characters into disoray, and everyone ends up trying to fix things in a way that "conflicts" with other characters- with some other elements tossed in to provide further conflict between them. What you wrote seems more like an altered version of Sonic Free Riders. Which is fine, but not how'd I'd imagine a game following up on _this_ particular subseries.

This is the first ever sonic game I ever played and I'm so happy to see this.
G-d, I can just imagine if this kind of competitive pettiness happened in other games. Adventure 1: Everyone races each other for the chance to beat up Chaos. Adventure 2: Everyone races each other for the chance to stop Eggman from activating the ARK Cannon. Heroes: Everyone races each other for the chance to fight Metal Overlord. Rush: Sonic and Blaze race against each other for the Sol Emeralds. Shadow the Hedgehog: Everyone races against Shadow for the Chaos Emeralds even though there's an alien invasion going on. Adventure 3: Everyone races each other to collect the Chaos Emeralds even though it would be more convenient to collect them separately. Forces: The entire Resistance races against each other for the sake of Rings yet miraculously survives at the end.

This entire Rivals 2 story feels like multiple timelines in one game.
This game is by far a lot more fun then rivals 1. I used to play it all the time and it was a blast.

First Adventure 2 calling the same area Green Forest and White Jungle for the Hero and Dark stories respectively, then Metal Sonic calls Frog Forest a jungle when telling Team Chaotix to head over there, and now this game with Sunset Forest. EDIT: Okay, not only Jason, probably the whole older cast. I know some people didn't like the voices (most mainly Rouge), but I still think their performances gave the characters much more personality. Might be the script writing of the newer games, but I look back to pre-2012 titles much more fondly.
You know, I was feeling bad that I was missing the Sonic Rivals series from my Sonic game collection, but... I don't feel bad anymore. Sonic Forces had a more coherent story... But the cast of characters here is definitely fanservice.
